RIP aussie dollar

I've always ordered my US dollars through a major bank, in a breakdown of denominations that I wanted, like lots of $1 bills etc.

If you go to the post office, does it have to be a big post office, can it be your local branch? And if so do they just give you $50 bills or can you specify smaller bills? And do they have the money on hand?

I'm thinking I might take Karen's advice and get my cash on Monday. I've already put a fair bit on our ANZ travel visa but I might even put a bit more on there too, then it's done.

I'm not sure if the post office would have that sort of money on hand, but I do know that Westpac (who I don't even bank with ) you can Bpay it at the now rate and pick it up later in the week, I think their fee is about $5 if I remember correctly.

Thanks Becpee. I don't "everyday" bank with Westpac but our mortgage is with them and that's where I keep the "spending money" so I would be drawing it out from that account anyway. Perhaps I'll pop in there.

:thumbsup2
I can't fault them, it's a great setup and a lower fee and better rate than the big blue bank, you can order high denominations, low or a mix.

What types of denominations do you and others get?

I always get something like 50 dollars worth of $1 notes. I can't believe how much you have to hand those babies out with tipping .

I think I'm going to get $1000 US dollars. I'll give DH $250 and keep the remaining $750 in my purse since I generally pay for stuff.

I'm just really struggling with how much money to take as spending on our ANZ travel card. This is our longest US trip, 5 full weeks. I have no idea what we will need.

At the moment we're sitting at 2k cash with about 20 $1 bills and about $1200 on the travel card I know we'll need more, well, pretty sure we will although free dining will stop a few dollars going out.
I have no idea what we'll be spending

I may order more cash before we go, or just load up the travel card.

It's so hard to try and estimate...

Order it online if you use internet banking- its cheaper- $4 fee online, $8 in the branch.

When i got my money i got it through fx4u.com.au a foreign currency online site. You can collect at any amex foreign currency exchange or any local post office. You can order in a mix of denominations (all) or small .. 1, 5, 10, 20 .. Or large .. 10, 20, 50, 100. Worked out well for us as no commission fee or exchange fee and was delivered in approx 2 business days.

I don't bank with west pac at all and exchanged money with them a few years ago. They had a good rate and low fees (compared to like $30 with commbank) I just bpay the money and picked it up a few days later.

Next Tuesday is the 31st so we have another week before interest rate decision yes?

The rate there offering makes me:sick: I tried to prepay the $2000 I still need to pay in towels and they ont let me:eek: going to have to risk a prepaid visa I think.
:rolleyes1I hope Andona does not buy cash this week:rotfl2:
