Silliest question/comment you've heard about Disney?

On my last trip, I was in Epcot in Germany. A boy, about 10 or 11 went up to his mom and asked "where is the harry potter ride"
Thankfully, she corrected him! Or it would have been even sillier!

My manager told me I shouldnt go to disney every year, that I should maybe go every two to three years! (I stay offsite for free...why would I pass that up?!)

Today I mentioned to one of the other managers my plans for when I get laid off for the winter (a month in Disney!) And he said "you must get tired of it!" Lol! Naaah! They just don't understand that there is SO much to do in Walt Disney World!

My FFIL told me he was stuck in africa for a week when he visited it. (His SIL booked them at AKL) and he said he hated the theming and hated all the money they spent on the room!

When I was talking to my boyfriend about our upcoming trip, I mentioned we could spend a day doing low key stuff like playing mini golf. Well, my FFIL chimed in and said "What?! Disney has mini golf! That's so cool! I wish I had known!" I told him he had the wrong people planning his vacation!

Oh and he said he wanted to stay in the resort that the monorail goes thru --- future world! I corrected him quickly that he was thinking of CR. Then I told him the rates for CR and he started complaining again! Lol! Can't win with this man! (He's wealthy, but is very smart with his money and can't justify spending so much on a place to sleep!)

I love reading stories like these! They give me a good chuckle! Thankfully, I have the DIS....so when I take my boyfriend for his first trip in almost 20 years, he can have a good time AND report back good things! (Maybe one day ill help change his father's opinion about Disney! He isn't that hard headed, he just needs to be shown the proper way and fit the vacation to his needs!)

IDK. That doesn't shock me. Family of four: POR for the week $1500. Plane tix $2000. 5-day hoppers $1500. Food & souvies = more. Even with free dining you are over $5k.

A good customer service rep will get you to buy into a suite for more $. For many folks this is once in a lifetime and IT IS too expensive to go back. I feel bad for them.

We are a family of 5. Our 6 nights trip will cost around 7000$. And we did look at the cost of staying offsite, but we would need to rent a minivan and 3 child seats, plus parking ect, and I don't want to have to cook on a vacation... we're still better off onsite But 3 kids = bigger room = $$$$. Plus, we're coming from Montréal, and plane tickets are quite expensives.

So no, we can't go every years. And yes, we want to make the most of it. Doesn't mean I want to be in a panic mode. My kids will love whatever we trow at them.

I've been there before, so at least I know how to use a fastpass.

My next door neighbors went to Florida last summer and I asked her if they were going to Disney.. She said that her boys who are 6 and 11 are too old for Disney because it is for little kids.. Really?

We have family who said this SAME thing about their sons about the same age. I feel SO bad for them. They are a blended family, the boys are from a previous marriage and the daughter is theirs together. They want to take the 4 year old daughter and leave behind the boys because they don't think they'll get anything from it. Poor boys!!! I wish I could take them with us! We are taking our 10, 6, and 16 month old. If I went by her logic we wouldn't go at all as the 10 and 6 year old would be considered "too old" and the 16 month old wouldn't remember! My kids are PSYCHED and the 10 year old is even going to wear an Ariel costume.

I'll tell you what the craziest things we've heard have been from our very own Travel Agent who's been before!!! She booked us the Cinderella breakfast at 1900 Park Fare and told us "all the princesses" would be there. She told us not to go to Cinderella's Royal Table - "it's not worth it and the characters won't spend any time with you". She also booked that one and said, "oh yeah you can just walk right out of the castle and hop onto your bus to go to the airport afterwards." Oh yes, and I had to press to book ADR's because she said it would be so slow in September we could make reservations that day. UM, ALL of the character meals are booked solid and have been for months, THANK goodness I made her book them months ago against her advice!!! Argh. SO many things were just plain wrong, UGH! We haven't even gone yet but are so excited we want to go again in two years...and I'M BOOKING THE WHOLE THING MYSELF! Lol*

First of all, if I could predict the weather in three months time, I wouldn't be sitting here working...

Second of all, weather and comfort levels are so subjective. Things like will we be able to swim, will it be warm enough to wear shorts, what kind of clothes do I bring, etc. totally depend on the individual and what kind of weather can they tolerate.

I work outside a lot, so I tolerate the weather a lot better than others. I go the week after Thanksgiving and I can be comfortable in a lightweight hoodie at night, while people around me are wearing coats or chattering their teeth. Some people will still be wearing shorts.

And the swimming part - if you can stand the run back to the room soaking wet, then go for it.

It mystifies me to no end that people cannot look at the weather a few days ahead of time, and say, hey, it is going to be 50 degrees at night, what do I wear at home that gives me the same comfort level I want to have in Florida.

My two sons have gone at 7 and 8, 14 and 16, 16 AND 18, 18 (just the youngest, band trip) and 19 and 21. They just don't wear the ears like on the first trip.

I wonder if people when they think WDW they only have the Magic Kingdom with the Castle and Dumbo in their minds.

I always stay at POR the week after Thanksgiving, and have traditionally (expect last year with the refurbs) leaving as Pop Warner is arriving.

Two years ago, I did a solo trip and on the last day, was not feeling too well and decided to just wait for the ME bus time on one of the rocking chair on the patio right outside the check-in area. It faces the marina where the water taxi comes to go to DTD. My eyes are closed and it most likely looks like I am sleeping....

So the DW and DS come outside and immediately spot the water taxi and want to take that to Disney World. DH and DD are inside checking in, since she is a cheerleader.

DW: We need to find someone who can tell us how to get over to that boat to get to Disney World.....

DH comes out the back door with DD and packet in hand.

DH: Come on, we need to go out front and catch a bus to the parks.

DW: But we want to take that boat to Disney.

DH: You won't believe this, but we are IN Disney World. This hotel, in Disney World. And there are four parks.... four of them. And two water parks. And there is bus transportation to all of the parks. We don't even have to use the car.

DW: Okay.

DH: (Just outside of earshot of the kids) You wouldn't believe how f...... big this place is. It is enormous.

Just like it except you fall 100 feet at faster than a free fall in a haunted elevator and see ghosts on the way up. The kid will never trust his Dad again.

I find this thread funny and depressing. It's really sad that there are ppl who are willing to spend thousands on a vacation and dont even do a little research.

On that note..I'm standing in the Concierge line at WL two weeks ago about a question I had and the people in front of me had made no dining reservations and no clue they had a dining plan in their package. The CM was trying to explain what a TS and QS meal were and they asked if they could get reservations. I thought the CM was going to pass out They didn't know what a 'Crystal Palace' was.... Again, how can you invest money into a vacation and not have the slightest clue what you are purchasing?

This thread is killing me. Trying not to laugh out loud at work

This is ABSOLUTELY true!! Disney is just for kids. Kids at heart that is.

I recently had a conversation with my cousin's wife about "Disney". She's planning to take their daughter to "Disney" and have a "private lunch with the princeses." I said "oh you mean Cinderella's Royal Table at Magic Kingdon where they come around to visit with you while you eat." She said, "Oh no. This is something new at Disney. You get all the princesses to sit and eat with you. You pay extra for it." And I tried to ask more questions about it and she was adamant that Cinderella, etc. sit right with you and eat with you. I quit trying to correct her and was thinking, honey, you don't have THAT MUCH money!

She'll figure it out. lol

I do have to say that I was one of the people that wondered why people would bring very young children/toddlers to WDW. After a couple of trips and getting a few quasi-nieces/nephews I get it.

However, I also get what my friends, a couple with two daughters, are doing. They are waiting until both are old enough to walk around DL for the day. Not dealing with strollers would be a big positive I'd think.

You may be thinking of E ride nights where you paid an extra 10 to 12 dollars for basically EMH. It was only for the MK and for a limited number of rides. They also limited the number of people to I think 10,000 or less.

Best that's ever been said to me "You make reservations 6 months before you go on vacation? What kind of vacation is that? When we go to Disney we just wing it." Yep, those same people don't like Disney because they always have such long waits for rides that they spend more time waiting in line then seeing/going on attractions and can never get into the castle "or any place good" to eat

And speaking of TAs...

When we booked flights for our first trip to DLR, the TA we spoke to (who had apparently been) said we would need to pay extra to get in at night 'to see the fireworks' I didn't bother to tell him I'd spent the last 5 years researching this trip and could tell him without a doubt that wasn't the case I gave him the benefit of the doubt in case he was there when there was a hard-ticketed event and was getting confused.

Once when I was walking off the monorail at Magic Kingdom to enter the park, I heard someone say quite loudly and angrily to a cast member, "What do you mean the monorail doesn't go to Sea World?" I got quite a laugh out of that.

I was talking to a friend last year about how much I love Disney World and she told me she had gone to Epcot once when she was down in Florida. I told her Epcot was my favorite park and she was like "really? I thought it was kind of boring. It was just a bunch of countries."

Apparently she and whoever she went with completely missed the front half of the park.

we flew from australia to the usa last year, and went to DLR. in 2013 we are coming back and doing a DCL cruise + WDW stay + DLR stay. we don't have kids, and we are 31 + 34 respectively and we LOVE disney

funniest thing i heard the other day after talking to a colleague about our impending disney trip was whether we were going to see 'the lion from beauty and the beast'... umm. no. beast isn't a lion. they truly wouldn't believe me though

i thoroughly research all our trips ahead of time. we are planning on going in sept 2013 and i'm trying to get the others who are coming with us to put down money now.. they're like, but it's still 12 months away!! -- omg. facepalm.

i told my mother that we're doing DCL + WDW + DLR + universal and she was like OMG why are you going 4 different places to do the exact same thing, what a waste!! lol. silly. i don't think anyone who isn't willing to do a lot of research would appreciate that they are all very, very different.
