EBPC December 9, 2012!!! PART 2

Drew, been reading your TR and loving it. Looking forward to much more...I think, maybe???
I don't know if you will be saying that once you see the pictures you are in...much more pictures were taken the 2nd week and you will definately make an appearance in them! I am very jealous of you trip coming up! It is getting a little too cold here for me and I could use some warmth right about now. Drew doesn't even want to walk DS to school and will drive him even though it only takes about 5 minutes to walk to his school...he says it is too cold in the morning!

Oh, and I love the fact that this thread is still active and our facebook page always has some new post to it! Great group of people.

We have a four year-old who had so much fun, and was so busy during the trip, she started napping again! Action packed, fun filled. The sea days were fun too - fastest 15 days ever! Only one (maybe two) days the pools were closed, due to waves. And only one day it was a little chilly. Wore summer clothes the entire time in December. If it weren't for work, school, etc, we'd do it again in a heartbeat.

With that raving review, how could we resist? We booked this evening. :) Thank you so much for the speedy reply!!

For those of you that mailed postcards on Panama Canal day, be on the lookout! Mine arrived today. They were postmarked December 20, though we went through the Canal on the 17th.

Is there a 'better' side of the ship for the Panama Canal portion? Remember, we'll be west bound so the reverse of your cruise.

Thanks. Any and all tips appreciated. I stalked this cruise meet with the hopes of sailing late in 2013 or 2014, and now am probably going in MAY! Any specific cabin recommendations on Deck 6 or 7 also appreciated.

Nancy

For most of your westbound trip, the sun will be on the port (left) side of the ship (after the Canal crossing). It will probably be a very hot sun like it was for us as we got closer to the Canal. It will be better, temperature wise, to keep to the north and east of the sun as much as you can. As for the Canal crossing itself, there are two sets of locks on the inbound and outbound areas and the ship alternated lock positions. So no matter what side of the ship you are on, you will get to see something. Best position is either deck 10 forward or deck 4 to see everything. Remember it does take about 8 hours to cross so grab a seat.

I would say there is no meaningful difference in terms of transiting the Canal itself regarding which side of the ship you're on. We went back and forth and the only compelling reason to do so was to get a better view of a ship that was in the locks beside us, which is something that you have no way of knowing ahead of time. The best place to be, if there is one, is right up at the front of the ship on deck 10. It's very crowded for the first lock but after that it thinned out to to where anyone could go up there.

We roamed around the ship during the entire crossing - all the views were great. I really enjoyed looking out the Promenade Lounge portholes when we went down in the locks, since you drop into the lock and get a great view of the sides of the lock that are often underwater. The "underwater" view. Don't stay in one place the whole day or you will miss some great views!

Just booked the EBTA! Can't wait to spend 14 days again on the ship.

I agree...lucky you! Still sticking to my plan and not booking any cruises for 2013. But we are going to do 2 weeks in Florida the beginning of June. I look forward to hearing about it!

I think we're moving to Georgia. We should have a handle on it by the WBPC. If it looks like we'll be settled by 9/14, we'll be booking the WBTA on board. It would be a pleasure to sail with any of you again.

I hope the move is a good move for you. No more cold winters!
We just booked the WBTA 2014, so we will see you there if you book it. I thought this group was active, but those guys have us beat! Should be a fun cruise.

We almost booked the WBTA until we realized my friend's wedding is 3 weeks before the cruise in Hawaii and we couldn't do both. Stupid work...

Georgia! Closer to DW! Hope it works for you if that is what you want.

I wish I could book a PC or TA. dd graduates 2014 so I'll have the 2014-2015 school year until I have another high schooler. I'd love do another cruise with any of you

. . .

Well, it's never been a place I wanted to live, but a couple of our honorary grandkids live there, and our friends their parents, so that's the draw.

The TA is in 2014, so that fits your time line, but probably more for a 'girls' trip than a family trip. And of course then there'll be college . . . $$$$

The sept TA from Spain to Puerto Rico looks very appealing... May just have to do that.

That does look like a good one. Can't wait until we can do the TA - Our last child graduates HS June 2014 so we can't go until the Sept '14 TA. So tempting...
