Coming to you Live from Disney World!-Take 2 AUG/SEPT WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Rosemary (pennyplanner) sent us an update from

Wolfgang Puck Express Marketplace

menu pics

"Yesterday, my sister and I were doing a little shopping at Downtown Disney. Wolfgang Puck's is our go-to for lunch! We decided to split a bowl of butternut squash soup with a swirl of red pepper sauce and the meatloaf sandwich with melted provolone, bacon, crispy onion straws, horseradish sauce, and tomato chutney on a crusty roll.

BUT did we remember to take pictures?? Unfortunately no!

The presentation at WPs is lovely, so that makes it even worse! The soup was not hot enough but the taste more than made up for it. It was such a creamy butternut goodness that neither of us cared. The red pepper swirl added just the right contrast. Delicious!

The sandwich was equally good. The meatloaf tastes like a ground beef/pork blend. Good texture and moist too. I didn't taste any horseradish and the chutney was very mild. The roll reminded me of a softer ciabatta.

For dessert we split a creme brulee. I am not a huge fan but this was quite good. Soft creamy custard with a thin sugary crust. Topped with a fresh strawberry, it was a good choice.

Overall counter service rating: 5 stars. We both left more than satisfied, splitting the soup, sandwich and dessert. If you are on the dining plan, this is a winner. The prices are commensurate(haha I had to look this word up- your grammar and vocab is superb Rosemary!) with the quality. WP's is a must do for us!

Blackboard desserts at WP's included cookies, fruit cup, creme brulee, vanilla bean cheesecake, brownies, and soft serve.

Here is the blackboard list of wines at WP's. They are certainly a good variety for a counter service destination!

There is quite a bit of construction activity at Downtown Disney. If you are driving be aware of signs for alternate parking and shuttles!

We stopped in at Goofy's while waiting for the shops to open. How cool is this jelly bean mosaic?:goodvibes

Although it was too early for sweets, here is the order form. Everything in the cases looked fresh. The items are basically the same at the Big Top Souvenirs in the circus section of Fantasyland at MK. Worth a stop!"

Thank you so much Rosemary for your awesome descriptions. You are a natural food critic!

Rosemary (pennyplanner) sent us another update from her day!

"Last night we ate at the Contempo Cafe. Dinner choices included a cheeseburger with a side of sesame green beans. According to my sister, it was better than standard fare!"

"However, the sugar cookie was not a winner. It was sweet but flavorless. Even fake vanilla extract is better than none!"

"Steakhouse Salad. This salad was advertised as freshly tosses and I believe it. We ate after 8pm, and the romaine lettuce was crisp. The marinated beef was plentiful, tender, and flavorful. The mild red onions and tomatoes were finely chopped. The goat cheese was mild, but the mustard dressing had a little kick. I liked that the kiosks offered an 'on the side' option for the dressing. The flour tortilla was grilled and folded- nothing too special- but was a nice change from a roll or slice of bread"

"Overall counter service rating: 4.5 The openness of the Contempo Cafe and the view of the monorail adds to an above average resort counter service meal."

Rosemary's(pennyplanner) third update came from

"Lunch today!"

"The entrance menu to entice you in."

"Grilled salmon with couscous and steamed fresh broccoli. We both opted for the salmon. The fish was fresh and lightly seasoned. No fishy taste here! The couscous had a small dice of onion and red pepper. It was not hot, but a fluffy texture. Its mildness complemented the fish. The broccoli was cooked al dente. It was a perfect firmness. Surprising for casual dining!"

"Apple Crisp. For dessert we had what they called apple crisp. In reality this is more of an apple tart. The pastry was crusty but tender. The diced apples were not overly sweet. This is a near perfect dessert in my opinion. I am a sucker for a good pastry! A small scoop of vanilla ice cream would be heaven!:goodvibes"

"We ate upstairs. It is relaxing and more quiet than the first floor seating"

"It's a charming atmosphere!"

Once again- thanks for your great review!!!

"He raved about the dish. Said the chicken was delicious."

Never even thought to do this! It does like delicious!!! Now that they got rid of the penne chicken alfredo from POP I need a new go to! This looks so good. Coupled with their amazing pistachio creme brulee..I want to come back here!

Hi there! :wave2: I'm Amanda, a first-time reporter, checking in for August 14-24. I'll be on a mother-daughter trip with DD13, Grace, who is very excited about reporting (Disney World + an excuse to use her iPhone is a dream come true for her!). We're doing a three-way split, first at AoA for 3 days (because DD has to stay in a Little Mermaid room), and then Yacht Club for 4 days, with Grand Floridian last for 3 days. We'll also be trying out MagicBands and FP+, so it will be interesting to see how that experiment goes.

Our ADR's are a mix of old favorites and new discoveries:
Chef Mickey's
Liberty Tree Tavern
Be Our Guest
Yak and Yeti
Crystal Palace
Le Cellier
Sci-Fi
50's Prime Time
Via Napoli
Captain's Grille
Chefs de France
Cinderella's Royal Table
Tony's
Grand Floridian Cafe
'Ohana

Looking forward to sharing our meals with you all! :)

We say the same thing every time we stop at CHH. :thumbsup2 We may have to take dessert to go in September and add the ice cream at another location. (I carry collapsible containers for desserts and other less-perishable left-overs.) Would make a terrific late night snack.

Hey Rachel, thanks for stepping in and taking over while Barb is away :)

I had to laugh that you quoted the Tony's post from Dena because the night after I read the same post I had a dream about the Ed's alfredo sauce substitution! :rotfl2: It looks so yummy an I'm not even much of an alfredo fan.

Rachel,
You have been very busy getting all these posted. Great job! :thumbsup2

There is that salmon and cous cous I've always wanted to try. Maybe next time, but it will always be hard for me to pass by the fried shrimp at CHH. Love it upstairs!

Rachel(Yorkshirebelle) had lunch on August 3rd in DTD at

Menu

"I had the All American double burger. This was a decent burger with standard toppings. Fries were skin on."

"DH had a plan hotdog which was just passable"

"For dessert I had the caramel flan and DH had the tres leches. These were nothing to write home about. The whole place was loud, chaotic, and not somewhere we would rush back to"

"We both started with the cocktail des chefs blanc wine with kir. This hit the spot. Very much like a Kir Royale but cheaper!"

"Bread service. Lovely fresh and warm baguette"

"My app the french onion soup. Really enjoyed this. It had a large crouton with lots of melted cheese on top- almost a meal in itself."

"DH tried something new and went for the lobster bisque. He quite enjoyed this and said it wasn't too fishy."

"DH's entree- 1/2 chicken"

"And I had the salmon. Both entrees were good."

"For dessert DH had the creme brulee. I also tasted this and it was excellent."

"I had the chocolate mousse. Honestly one of the best I have ever had (and I've had many in my time!). The whole meal was excellent and the service very attentive. We would definitely return to Les Chefs and our meal was one of the best we have ever had at WDW"

"DH's choice of a white chocolate chunk cookie. As you can see he couldn't wait to eat it and he really enjoyed this"

"My choice- sundried tomato and mozzerella sandwich on focaccia bread. As part of a QS DDP credit you can get a sandwich, chips or cucumber salad, choice of dessert plus fountain beverage. I think an excellent choice on the DDP"

"Standard chips with the sandwich"

"My choice for dessert a strawberries and cream cupcake- yum! This was a vanilla sponge with a light frosting on top plus strawberry cream and fresh strawberries inside. It was lighter than expected and delicious"

Our first update of the day come from Yorkshirebelle.

"Dinner last night was at...

Menu pics

Interior pic

Bread service. Crusty on the outside but fresh and soft in the middle

DH's entree. Crusted, seared tuna. He requested this to be cooked more than just seared and they said medium was the most the chef would do. He was happy with this and really enjoyed his entree.

I had the signature entree. The potato wrapped snapper and strip steak. The snapper was particularly delicious-white flaky fish on a bed of leeks complemented by the sauce, yum.

Complimentary champagne toast for our wedding anniversary. A lovely and much appreciated gesture.

DH chose the nuts about chocolate dessert which again he enjoyed.

I chose the trio of concessions sweets. Hot dog and fries, sour herry popsicle and toffee popcorn mousse. This was fun but not at all sweet.

We really enjoyed our meal at Flying Fish. This was a really relaxed dining experience with great food.

After dinner we went to Jellyrolls for drinks and entertainment. Sadly we were very disappointed. Little actual music, small audience who were constantly asked the same questions by the performers who delay your requests to make sure you stay longer. Drinks were also expensive. We would not go back as it was not worth the $12 entry fee.

Expensive vodka and cokes!"
