I saw the post on Facebook this morning, shortly after it was published. Honestly, I think we should all take it with a grain of salt. I follow the Tikiman's Facebook page, website and podcasts and, over the past few months, the announced changes have been so dramatic and quick that I do not know what is genuine.
Awhile ago, in one of his posts, there was mention of closing and razing the entire resort to build an Aulani-inspired Polynesian. There was also talk of removing Aotearoa and Luau Cove to construct a 5-story T-shaped building. Then, Aotearoa was staying and Rapa Nui, Tangaroa Terrace and Luau Cove were to be razed to build two 5-story T-shaped buildings, one on both sides of the resort, bungalows and an Aulani-inspired pool/water play area; Tahiti was also slated to be converted. Shortly thereafter, we were told the plans were completely scaled back and would include the conversion of Tahiti and addition of bungalows. Recently, because of carpet and wallpaper samples in Rapa Nui, it was speculated that Rapa Nui would also be converted.
We know DVC is coming to the Polynesian and it will likely be in the form of 2 longhouse conversions and the addition of bungalows. Honestly, at this point, anything further is anyone's guess.
Also, it is worth noting that both Tahiti and Rapa Nui were built in 1985 and were not built with the pre-constructed, modular rooms by U.S. Steel. Needless to say, these rooms could be converted because the rooms are not stacked with frames and concrete built around them.
If your heart is set on calling the Polynesian home, it is still too soon to be disappointed.
