In my previous post, I forgot to mention a life changing moment in my life
Clotted Cream!! Oh my holy heck it was like a little piece of heaven on a scone! It was like the perfect mixture of fresh whipped butter and whipped cream. If only I could find it at home!
Ok, now I can move on.
Since our tour of the Tower took longer than the suggested 1 to 2 hours
..I still need to send Rick Steeves a note about that
our schedule was a little messed up so we decided to just kinda wing it the rest of the day. So we hopped on a boat for our first trip up the river Thames to Westminster.

Again
.and Ill say this a lot of times about this trip
..I couldnt believe where I was. Getting off the boat we could see big ben, the houses of parliament and a little glimpse of Westminster Abbey.
I even found a statue of Abraham Lincoln
We decided to head towards Trafalgar square
.Im sure that I had a bright neon flashing tourist sign above my head but I just couldnt help it! Im sure my mouth was hanging open and I was trying to look at everything all at once. I was actually walking down a street in London!
As we were strolling along we came across the horse guards and they were getting ready to do a changing of the guard
..of course we had to stop and watch. It was really cool
.the precision they have a;nd the fact that they can keep a straight face is impressive.
We arrived in Trafalgar square and I had my first experience of almost getting run over
the fact that they drive on the wrong side of the road is more important to pedestrians than I originally thought. I was taught before crossing a road to look left, then right, then left again
which I did. Luckily D.Jay was paying attention and grabbed me just as a cab came flying by missing me by about 2 inches. After recovering from a mild heart attack I looked down and noticed that painted on the curb
.for idiots like me
were the words Look Right.
Once safely into Trafalgar square I again assumed the position of in awe tourist
mouth gaping open
..looking every where all at once
.and taking tons of pictures. There is just so much going on there....Im from a small town and was raised in a tiny town, so all of the humanity packed into one small place is new to me.
We spent about an hour walking around the square before realizing we were both starving. We decided to just walk till we found some place that looked good
..which led us to a little Italian place. D.Jay had his favorite lasagna, and I had some sort of potato & cheese thing. It was heaven! Best Italian food Ive ever had.
After dinner we came across the Banqueting House and decided to take a look. The paintings on the ceilings here are amazing.
The the arches along the hallway ceiling were gorgeous
And the bathroom there was pretty snazzy too! I do enjoy a nice public bathroom.
Leaving the Banqueting House we continued our walk ending up in Leister square. D.Jay was excited when we came across this from Dr. Who
..
I was more excited by the cheap souvenir shop we found and bought the kids some things. We also checked out the M&M store
.I couldnt believe how big it was.
Continuing on we found ourselves in China town
..when we first started seeing these in the windows I wasnt sure if it was a cat or a duck!
By this time it was getting late and my feet had gone from a mild throbbing to full on screaming. We found a bus stop
..rode to the tube
.took the tube to the station near our flat
..caught another bus and then walked the block home. And we did it all without getting lost!!
