It is still a bra!

When did a sports bra become an acceptable clothing item? Isn't considered underwear like a regular bra? I wouldn't go out wearing just my bra so why is it okay to just wear a sports bra?!

Saw the girls cross country team practicing today and most of the girls were wearing ONLY a sports bra on top. It is still a bra! Not a shirt.

Rant over.

Eh, I've seen many people working out in a sports bra and shorts. It doesn't bother me. Runners get pretty sweaty.

Sports bras typically cover a bunch more than a swimsuit top!

Several girls on my HS cross country team ran in sports bras in 1994, so it's nothing new, but my mom felt the same way you do so I never "got" to do it. :)

Not really a big deal - Covers more than most swimsuit tops.

But as to when - I think it was that World Cup Soccer win when Brandi What's Her Name took her jersey off.

I wouldn't wear one out to dinner or to run errands, but when I'm out running in the heat, I wear a sports bra and running shorts. It's just too hot otherwise and short of going naked, I'm all for doing anything that makes exercising more comfortable and pleasant.

Let's call it a running top then. Twenty years ago, before kids, I loved the freedom of running through the parks in a "sports bra" and bike shorts. Now, I just envy those who have the bodies to do so. :sad1: Seriously, I see men jogging shirtless - those "bras" are thick, padded, and show no cleavage (and no movement). I assume those running cross country look pretty good in them, too.

Op again - those who wear a sports bra and nothing else - would you wear a regular bra out with nothing over it? Would you wear your panties out with nothing over them? What's the point of underwear if it is actually outerwear?:sad2::scratchin

I think my age is showing...lol

Do not have a problem with it at all. Covers everything that needs to be covered. Way more than most bathing suits.

So because it's called a 'bra', they can't wear it how they want? What if it's called a 'snufferdoodle'?

As mentioned, it covers up much more than some swim tops, nothing is exposed (or moving), so why does it bother you so much? Just because of the name? :confused3

I really don't see them as the same thing. I WOULD go out of my house in a tank top and I think they're similar. I can give a pass to people participating in that level of activity.

Totally agree! Oh, and flannel pants don't bother me either!

Guys are allowed to go shirtless during practice.. its HOT, you sweat, you want to wear as little as possible and for girls its a sports bra!

If I still had the body, if wear mine to workout or run in, but I wouldn't wear it to the mall or out for dinner. There's an appropriate time and place. I'm pretty sure you can't find a running "bra" in the intimate apparel section if a store. You can't find them at Victorias Secret. Just the same as you can't find bras and panties at Sport Authority!

I will be referring to all my sports bras as snufferdoodles from this point forward.

Because you're using the term differently than most of the people wearing them, which is that they're NOT the same as underwear. The fact that it shares the term "bra" doesn't make it the same as a regular bra. I think that most people do wear the ones that are very "bra-like" (individual cups, traditional shoulder straps and back hooks, etc.) under shirts, but if you look at any catalog for women's athletic clothing, many are designed and intended to be worn as is. It would be the same thing as trying to compare a bikini top with a regular bra. Same concept, two different purposes, one is generally acceptable to wear in public in a certain context and one isn't.

I will now call my bras snufferdoodles.

I want a push-up snufferdoodle.

Totally agree with everything you said, right down to the the envy those who have the body to do so---I miss those days!!
