How Do You Feel About Your Keurig?

We have a platinum which we got about 5 years ago, and we love it. DH drinks coffee, mostly a travel mug in the morning, sometimes a couple cups on the weekend. I drink Chai Tea, kids drink hot chocolate, iced coffee, mocha, etc. I go in streaks with the Chai kcups vs regular tea bags, as the kcup chai is a bit sweet and not as strong as I would like (used to Starbucks chai latte, wish they would make a kcup for that!), but use the keurig for the water either way. Ours is just STARTING to occasionally not pump the water through, and so far we have been able to turn it off and then back on and it works. That said we have started looking at replacing this year, and trying to decide between staying with the platinum or getting the Vue.

We have the Platinum and have had it for about 3 or 4 years. I find it very convenient because we drink coffee on and off all day long and we both like to have a FRESH cup of coffee, not one that has been sitting around for a couple hours on the warmer. Besides that, DH likes Decaf and I only drink regular, so every time we had coffee with the drip machine, we had to either drink the coffee we didn't like, or brew another pot...and since we drink it on and off all day long, I was constantly throwing away half a pot of coffee several times a day. It got annoying, so I just started going to Dunkin Donuts. Several times a day. Boy the $$$ added up that way. :scared1: So when the Keurig came out, I bought one almost right away. Even if it DOES cost me almost 50cents a cup of coffee, we each get the kind of coffee we want, it's always fresh and its a LOT cheaper than going to Dunkin Donuts three times a day. :goodvibes I buy my Kcups at BJs, $40 for 80 K Cups.

My Mom has the mini one instead of the one with the big water tank like I have. I hate her minibrewer because it takes a lot longer than mine because you have to wait a few extra minutes for the water to heat up after you pour it in. We have the Platinum and it has the big water tank and we just always leave ours on all day long because we use it on and off all day.

I have a Keurig Platinum and I love it. I usually get my morning coffee at the office, so I use it only during weekends. It is works well, makes good coffee and is mess free. I've had guests who enjoyed my Keurig so much that they bought their own.

I have a real basic one (it's 3-4 years old now) that doesn't have a tank, it's just one cup at a time. It works for me because I'm the only one in the house who drinks coffee and I generally only use it on the weekends. It's small enough to put away once I'm done with it, which is nice.

I'm with the other posters who have had issues - I've had two Keurigs and a Tassimo and all three have broken just outside the warranty period. It got to where I couldn't justify throwing so many coffeemakers in the landfill when my stovetop espresso maker will last forever (well, however, long stainless steel lasts). I'm the only coffee drinker in the house and I only drink one cup a day, so I definitely wasn't abusing them. They need to make their products a little more durable!

We have a Keurig VUE. It's a slightly different kind of system. They use a new kind of cup and you have a lot more customizable options for your coffee.

I love the Vue but my major complaint with it is lack of variety in the Vue cups. I like how I customize my cup size, temperature, strength, and brew over ice...but they don't make that many flavors of coffee for the Vue.

I would also really like to see a reusable Vue cup. I would like to be able to use ground coffee of my choosing in the Vue brewer.

If you love some of popular flavors like Newman's Own, the Green Mountain varieties, Donut Shop, Starbucks House Blend, etc...then the Vue is for you. If you need variety then I'd go with a regular Keurig that uses K-Cups.

I love the convenience but I'm one of those who has had nothing but constant problems with the machines --- and yes I only use bottled water. Keurig has replaced the machine twice for me because water quit coming out and now it just quit working a third time. This time it won't turn on at all, completely dead. I've pretty well given up on it.

I always thought the coffee was just kind of okay. We found a few brands and flavors that we liked well enough. I'm not exactly a coffee snob, just hot and acceptable works for me.

I don't know if we'll ever replace it. Right now I'm just back to using the old Mr. Coffee.

Do you buy DISTILLED water? If you are not using that, I recommend it.

I got this one summer of 2012 :

Right now it is on EZpay - great deal! You do have to fill it every time you want a cup of coffee (or whatever) but I have never had an issue with ours.

:)

We recently bought the Platinum Keurig at Costco. I haven't settled into it quite yet. My biggest problem, is I've always used a 16 oz Starbucks stainless steel travel mug, and it stays hot for about an hour and a half. That would be my daily coffee for the whole day (about 2 cups worth). When I use it with the Keurig, I'd have to use 2 K cups, that will get expensive! But one K cup reused, is completely watered down coffee. I've tried using regular ceramic coffee mugs with the Keurig, and the coffee gets cold within five minutes. Drives me crazy. But the coffee is delicious that way on the medium size. It's perplexing. I want delicious coffee, but I want it to stay hot for an hour! I'm so fussy that way. Using Mr Coffee was so much easier, I'd just make enough for that particular mug and I was done. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Two words: Environmental Nightmare

Why would we, in this century, after all we've learned, begin using something that creates huge landfill matter? I have seen permanent filters and you can make your own but most buy the evil plastic, not recyclable because they have two materials that are attached, cups.

When we got back from vacation last weekend our Keurig would not brew:confused3 DH took it apart, cleaned it, etc. but no go. Anyways, we decided (read: I decided) we were spending far too much $$ on K-cups even though I price shopped. DH used 4 or 5 cups each day and I used 2, so some days that was 7 K-cups. Even at the cheapest price it ended up costing $3 or so each day, usually $20/week:scared1: So back to Mr. Coffee we are.

Could not live without mine and I don't say that about many things. If mine were to break I would run out and pay full price for a new one within 2 hours. :lovestruc

I'm terrible at making coffee so it was an easy way to make a good cup. My boyfriend and I only have one cup in the morning and maybe one after work. Makes sense to have a one cup brewer if you're only going to make one maybe two cups a day.

Do you like it? Love it? Wish you'd never bought it?

I've been thinking about buying a Keurig, for quite awhile now actually.

I've been hesitant to buy one because I thought maybe they were "just a fad" and they would stop making them, and stop making the K-cups to go with them.

But, I think they are very popular so...I'm thinking more seriously about buying one.

But, which model?

So, please tell me about yours. And edited to add: please tell me which model you have and WHY you like/love/hate it, thanks. :)

On our second one. Love it. We have the Platinum from Costco. Husband has one for work too.

And love it even more now that we found a great youtube video that shows how to burp it when it does that funny little "brewing" but no brew comes out. Works every time! No more turning off, turning on, slapping it on the side, etc.

Yeah...I have a keurig. We got it for Christmas. It's pushed back against the back of our kitchen counter and in front of it is a $20.00 Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker that I got at Target a month ago.

When we got it we were like, "oh great...a quick cup of coffee and we can each have the type we like." Well, DH and I like pretty much the same types of coffee...just regular dark roast or Duncan Donut or columbian types. I didn't see the point of making tea in it, and when we have company over, we don't get people asking for a cup of decaf or french vanilla or whatever. I am a cheapskate, so I started buying the K-Cups at Costco where they were the cheapest.

They were okay...some were too weak on the big-cup setting and too strong on the small cup setting, but whatever. The price we were paying per cup was still way high compared to buying a big container of coffee at Costco, so we switched to that reusable k-cup to save money. I'm aware that there are random deals here or there, but I don't feel like clipping coupons or spending a big part of my time searching for coffee cup deals.

Okay, so that worked fine, but I came to realize it was a big hassle to make two cups of coffee with that. Fill the canister...make the coffee...dump the canister...rinse it...fill again...

That's why a month ago I just bought a Mr. Coffee...whoever gets up first in the morning can make a big ol' pot in the less time it takes to make the two individual cups. DH was against it at first, but I told him we'd leave the Keurig out for a month and if he was still using it, we could keep it out. He hasn't used it since...

I'm not a super-duper-green person, but I think of that as well...an awful lot of garbage being created. I use paper filters in my Mr. Coffee but that doesn't seem as bad as the k-cup trash.

We did do that. Our first one broke a couple of years ago on a Sunday morning. I was sitting outside Costco when it opened to get a new one.

To answer the OP, I love my Keurig. We bought it from Costco and did have one quit working properly after 5-6 years. Costco took it back and we got a new one (their suggestion we return it, not our request). We now have the Platinum. Sometimes we'll buy the K-Cups, but for the most part we buy our own grounds and use the reusable K-Cup. We also use it for tea, hot chocolate and honestly any time we need hot water.

Nothing to do with the Keurig, but if you have a Costco membership, see if they sell the Starbucks Chai Latte concentrate. Not all carry the Starbuck's brand, but ours does and it so good. They sell it over by the juices and it comes in a 3 pack.

Love our Keurig. In fact, we bought a portable unit for our road trips. Always a fresh cup of coffee. Never any waste. Coffee brewed the way I like it (strong) or the way my wife likes it (weak). :coffee:

That reminds me. I have teen boys and they love putting their disgusting ramen noodle cups under the Keurig and filling it with hot water. Beats boiling water for them.
