But the question would be why? DD is the biggest reality show ever. Why on earth would they want to take a chance of losing viewers by this publicity stunt? Those that support Phil, will continue to watch. Those that were shocked by what he said may leave. Why take a chance on losing viewers of any already successful show?

Over the holidays, it was very obvious that the Duck Commander items were selling like hotcakes. The Duck Dynasty ones were being put on clearance and not moving. So, A&E lost possible money while DC gained. And many people are still saying they will be very careful of which products they buy. How did it work?

You know this whole thing was one big publicity stunt and a&e was in on it from the beginning. The duck dynasty people are about as real as the kardashians. (Google duck dynasty before the show to see their before photos). Guess what they have been discussed for several weeks by the media, by the public. They and a&e have made millions and now they are guaranteed spectacular ratings for their premiere. If you think he didn't know exactly what he was doing and saying when he said it, I have some land to sell you. He's not a country bumpkin. He made a calculated move I'm willing to bet with a&e blessing and now they are reaping the benefits.

The show resonates with people because it is about family, crazy relatives, loving each other even when you screw up and it is wholesome family entertainment. That is why we watch the show and will continue to watch the show.

There are very few things on TV I watch with my kids. Duck Dynasty is something we all sit down to watch, with no cringing from any of us. It makes us laugh and makes us realize how important family is in our everyday lives.

Let's see the interview surfaces right before the Christmas special airs and now he is reinstated right before the premiere of the next season. Also it dove tails nicely with the outrage about the battle against Christmas and white Santa and all the other Fox News generated controversy. And just in time for them to sell a few more Christmas presents.
As to why money pure and simple greed. Why settle for five million dollars when by manufacturing some outrage you can make ten.

I don't know about that. There have been multiple websites in support of him (one in particular numbering in the hundreds of thousands), the Duck Dynasty merchandise has been selling out. A & E were reeling from the backlash. That's why they put him back on.

ETA: Correction. On one website alone there were over a million in support of Phil.

A website with 1 million viewers - .3% of the US population. Doesn't even hit 1%.

A publicity stunt like this is looking to see if it can attract a few more of the 96.3% of the US that does not watch Duck Dynasty.

As far as I know they still don't allow gay men to participate as scout leaders though. There is was a big broohaha about that people were claiming if their son had a gay scout leader he would molest their son on campouts and all sorts of ridiculous things like that.

Sure. That doesn't explain the why or how it worked.

The show is already successful, no need to risk losing viewers. The products were every where and selling like hotcakes; now people are being more careful what they buy (whether its from the Robertsons or from A&E).

It wasn't necessary to risk bad publicity.

Now, Miley Cyrus--it makes sense. Her bad publicity worked to her favor. This possibly did not work to A&E's favor.
