Fitting in Seven dwarfs mine train

I don't understand the complaints. Roller coasters have generally been less accommodating to overweight guests, due to safety requirements, not because Disney is trying to exclude a segment of their guests. Safety will always trump hurt feelings.

I don't see at complaint. Just people trying to figure out how to plan. I wouldn't want to waste a fp, and it end up being wasted.

Dang. I'm of average height and weight but I have claustrophobia issues. I'm okay with most DW rides (not all) but if I feel too confined, have no leg room and have a bar between my legs.....I don't think I can ride it. :sad1:

It really irks me when people post on a discussion thread like this to body shame or to make commenters somehow feel their concerns are not valid.

I think I speak for most people on this thread that one reason why I choose Disney is they are the most accommodating parks in the world. And I'm paying a premium for it. I've been to Disneyland and DisneyWorld many times. I have never been turned away from a ride and I am 5'10 and 400 pounds. Admittingly I have never tried ridding the off-the-shelf rides at each resort like Barnstormer, Go Gadget coaster, Goofy's coaster at DCA, Silly Symphony Swings and the Bugs Land rides. Mainly out of no interest. But I am shocked that I will probably be denied a ride on a 100m+, years in the making family ride (and I fit into the old Snow White ride just fine). Most rides not designed to accommodate larger people are super thrill rides that require strict safety concerns. Disney has already proved they can make accommodating thrill rides like California Screamin', RNR Coaster, Everest, TOT, etc.

There is no excuse for such a strict seating restraints on this coaster. Like was mentioned, an EASY fix is to have a few rows with one lap bar like Big Thunder. As a heavy person, I would rather have that option than no ride at all and Disney can easily mention these rows for guests who need more room. Judging by Josh's pic on Twitter, 2 average size adults would be able to use that row too. With the length of time to build and the lukewarm responses, Disney does not need this backlash.

It will be interesting to see if Universal learned from their mistake and make the new Gringott's ride more accessible/roomy for larger guests. THAT would really sting Disney. I go down Saturday and hoping Gringotts has a soft opening before june 11th.

That picture from Josh's twitter looks, uh, tight. I have to say I'm really surprised at Disney.

I thought they were going to be like the restraints on Seuss's Trolley Ride at UOR from the descriptions..From the pictures, they seem almost the same except on the Seuss ride there is only one bar at your legs, not two (on the outer side of the car). Here's a picture from the Orlando Sentinel (Red Huber)..You can see how they work to let an adult and child both ride and be safe, yet don't restrict as tightly...

This is my concern for my mother who has claustrophobia issues as well. I just rode it tonight, I'm 5'3" and slim/average and I felt oversized for the ride.

That would also have been a great solution! Totally forgot about that ride. The ride opps assured me I would fit and I was fine. Another adult next to me would have been too crowded but a child would have been fine.

You aren't going to fall out of big thunder. Or really any of the rides. You'd have to try to fall out on purpose.

My concern isn't about falling out, but rather smacking into the side of the car, which happened several times before I started holding on for dear life.

There has to be a happy medium between feeling unsafe and feeling too confined.

Here is a pic of the Gringott RV. It appears to have a similar set up as The Mummy. How have your experiences been on that ride?

I am 6'1" 400 lbs and I have fit on everything at WDW I have tried except CyberSpace Mountian at Disney Quest.

I thing one of the most uncomfortable rides I ever been on at WDW because of my size is the Primeval Whirl at DAK.

Maybe I can sit in the middle and pull one lap bar down across each leg. :rotfl2: This seems like it might be the only way I get to ride the new rollercoaster.

for mummy it was snug but i fit at 265ish and size 46/48 jeans on with a friend who is also a pooh sized person so gringotts should be okay depending

I am pretty sure I read an article about Gringotts a couple weeks ago where the issue of the size restrictions for TFJ came up and Universal said they addressed it for the new ride and it wouldn't be an issue.

I was able to ride The Forbidden Journey but, only in the modified seats on the end. Since then I have lost about 60 lbs so, I am not worried about it this trip but, it is nice to know Universal learned their lesson.

It sure sounds like 7DMT maybe an issue for me because I am 5'9 and still 30 lbs overweight. I sure hope I can ride it because I have really been looking forward to it.

I wish I could recall the article I read about the new Gringotts coaster so, I could actually prove what I just wrote... lol

This is my issue as well! I'm no skinny Minnie (5'4" and a size 12) AND I don't like tight quarters. I was shocked to see how small these seats are. Josh from easywdw always takes pics of himself and he's not a big guy at all weight-wise. To see his thighs slightly squished isn't good.

I agree with you! Theses threads are a way for people to dismiss you and even hint that "if you weren't so fat...." :sad2: When you're bigger you have to do more research. My stepfather was over 400 lbs before his surgery and we would have to research all types of seating (theaters, planes) so he wouldn't be embarrassed. Disney is well aware that they have a pooh sized clientele. How hard would it have been to add seat belts and one long lap bar? This would have been a perfect solution for larger adults sitting with their kids. :confused3

Thank you for posting the Gringotts ride vehicle photo. I hadn't seen it yet and that puts me a bit at ease about riding that this fall. I have to use the modified seat on FJ and have been turned away from Rip Ride Rocket so I was a bit uneasy. This helps.
I'm still curious about 7DMT but I'm sure I'll be fine. I've never been turned away from a DW ride before. My legs are thick but if I have to ride alone to be able to ride at least once I will. My hubby will understand.

the space.between the bars.of.the lap bar is 13.5". Less than I.thought.

:scared1: That is not much space. I am about 99% positive my husband will not be able to squeeze his legs in a space barely over 1ft. I just got out a tape measurer and mine (above the knee but below thighs...am I measuring the right spot?) is 13". I am about to dump my FP+ for this.

You should be perfectly fine. Mine are over that size as well, like most adults. And I fit fine.

People are really making it a bigger deal than it is

If you decide to keep it and try, I read somewhere else that someone got a paper unlimited FP because they couldn't ride. So if that's the case maybe the FP wouldn't go to waste even if you decide it's too uncomfortable for you both to ride.
