The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

I'm new to WDW, so i've never been on any of the rides, Is there a list of rides that wouldn't be good for the pooh sized? Or a list that's "Pooh-sized approved"? The only rides i plan of riding are the slow ones like Dumbo, the Pooh hunny pot, Soarin, buzzlightyear, it's a small word, pirates of the Caribbean. So i wonder what the seating space on those rides are like. :scared:

We were there last week and I was a little nervous about fitting into rides, but neither myself nor my pooh sized DH had any issues, except on mine train where our legs were squeezed together by the crazy lap bar. My DH commented on how surprised he was that he fit on all of the rides without a problem. Absolutely no issues on dumbo, pooh, soarin, buzz, small world, or pirates. We even sat together with DS, who is 5, on Peter Pan! Enjoy your trip and don't worry about seating space!!!! :-)

Thanks! I read trip reports on allears.net and i don't feel worried anymore. The person I'm going with is on the petite side so i'm sure we won't have any difficulties sitting together!

I haven't had an opportunity to read the entire thread here, but just wanted to throw in my experience at the parks! My husband and I are both large, but my husband has the added bonus of being rather long legged. Leg room was an issue for him on most rides more than anything to do with his weight. Space Mountain is particularly uncomfortable for him. At Disneyland it was near impossible! Most rides we have had few problems with, and I have never been particularly uncomfortable on a ride.

When we went last May I was 5'6 and 265. For my trip this year I anticipate being between 235-225. I'm 31, and younger large people may like to know that I bought some Disney themed tanks from Hot Topic online that have been a great fit. In fact, I might be too small for them when we go down in August as I am already swimming in them. I ordered several Alice in Wonderland tanks in 3x, and I wish I had got them in 2x instead. It's worth checking out for the larger folks looking for cute Disney wear!

Apparently I am too new to post a link, but if you search out the Hot Topic website and do a search for Disney you will find a ton of stuff!

Congratulations on your weightless!!!

Do all/most shops sell plus size clothes? I want to buy a sweater/hoodie during my stay. I'm going to Downtown Disney my first day.

It depends on how "plus" you are looking for. :confused3 Out here on the West Coast Disneyland and Downtown Disney I have very rarely found a 3x, which runs small.

I was referring to Downtown Disney at WDW. I wear a 2x-3x. There was a WDW hoodie I saw on the disney store website, but it sold out in my size.

Items in 2X are pretty easy to find. Most items that a 2X sized person would wear can be found. There will be times when the. 2X is not there bit no more than any other size. Don't expect to see the ladies hourglass cut in a 2x.

You should find a decent selection of 3X, but it is seen A LOT less often than 2X. There will be some shops with no 3x or the dreaded, I will buy this or nothing.

I have seen shirts in 4X and 5X but it is very rare.

If you have a spare tire like I do, beware of sleep pants.

:hippie: Yes, I figured you were talking about WDW, I was just saying how it is out here. It is probably the same whichever Disney place you will be going to. Larger sizes are usually a rare find. It is as if POOH people don't exist, UGH. :furious:

Now Legoland was a HUGE disappointment!! We had visited the one in CA 2 years ago and just fell in love w it. We really had an amazing time there and I highly recommend it should you visit the west coast. The one in FL not so much! It is extremely not pooh friendly. The first roller coast my hubby couldn't get the bar far enough down.. 3 lights what ever that means... So he and DD in tears have to get out.. I go and try and the attendant and to put his foot on the bar and push it w enough force to make my stomach exit through my back... Not really but ouch!!! So of course I. Stressed the entire ride thinking I'm going to go flying out of it. The Dino roller coaster our fav from CA, I couldn't fold my legs up to fit in it and the dragon coaster had a weight limit of 270 in the car...my 50 inch 5 year old DD weights 60 lbs so that was a no go.... The safari ride was murder on my knees.. The boat driving ride had weight limits on the boat.... Of and I got sun poisoning.... Fun times... Fun times... Any way I thought I'd just put that warning out for anyone pooh sized headed to that park... It was def not a disney type experience for our family!

I had a similar experience at Legoland. I tried the first coaster, which was Project X, probably same one as your DH, because they kept saying they only had two lights. And I tried the front and back of the car. Fortunately my DH was able to ride it with my son. But I hated not being able to ride it with him. And after that I didn't even attempt any other ones. I almost tried Flying School, but I was worried that since I am also short, I couldn't get into the seat. The weird thing about our experience with the dragon coaster was that my DH and son rode it and I know together they were over 270. My DH must not have seen the weight limit. But they rode it with no problem and he even said that he thought that I could have been able to fit. We didn't try the Dino coaster.

But all in all I was really disappointed. My son had a blast, but we don't really plan on ever going back. But if we ever make it out west, we might try it. And this experience at Legoland is part of the reason why I don't want to try US until I lose some weight.

Hey all,

I just thought I would write about my experience to help any others my size. We just left Fort Wilderness this morning.

I had read a lot about the rides but never saw someone my size post their dimensions specifically, so I was still worried about the rides.

I am 6'4", about 360, with a 52" waist. I wear about a 4x or 5x shirt depending on the cut.

I did the following rides/attractions with no trouble at all:
Magic Kingdom - pooh, small world, haunted mansion, country bear jamboree, pirates, thunder mountain, jungle cruise, little mermaid, laugh floor, peter pan, philharmagic, carousel, space ranger spin, enchanted tales with Belle, swiss family treehouse, (didn't ride aladdin or dumbo, but my wife says I would have been fine with one of our kiddos next to me).

Epcot - Ellen's Energy Adventure, Soarin, Figment, The Seas, Turtle Talk, Spaceship Earth

Hollywood Studios - Toy Story Mania, & Star Tours

Animal Kingdom - Kilimanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Nemo live show, Tough to be a bug

There may be a few more, but I had NO TROUBLE at all, riding/fitting on any of these. Unfortunately Splash Mountain and Seven Dwarfs were closed a good bit on the days we were in the MK.

Go. Have fun. Don't worry. Hopefully other pooh-sized people my size can benefit from my dimensional reporting! :)

I was at islands of adventure yesterday and did not fit the test seats for Forbidden Journey or Dragon Challenge. I'm 5'5 and 253, 49" bust and 44" waist, size 18/20W. It's got to be body composition because I've read so many larger people fit in the ride (and saw many larger people getting off as I waited for my daughter). If I had to guess it was a combination of my chest and a broad shoulder width preventing the harness from coming down. I had room to spare in for FJ test seat as far as my bum goes, but DC was tight on my hips.

Rode everything I tried at WDW.

I was disappointed in US because I hadn't even considered that I wouldn't fit. It was a little embarrassing to try the test seat but other people tried them after I did and at least I knew. I was pretty distraught for one kid of about 16. He was with his family and he sat in the seat at FJ and didn't fit. He took off very upset. I felt so badly for him. He wasn't even that large, but he was tall (over 6') and very solidly built, but proportional. I took it from his family's discussion that he had already encountered the same on other rides. :(

It seems the general consensus that Universal is considerably less "Pooh Friendly". We have friends/family who rave about US but unless DH and I drop some weight, not worth going and being unable to ride. Glad WDW was good for you. It's consideration for folks of all shapes and sizes makes it that much more magical to me. :)

Did you, by chance, try the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. It seems to be the most questionable "Pooh Friendly" ride at the moment.

Yeah, I won't go to US or IoA anymore. I haven't been able to fit into a lot of stuff for over a decade now, but DH is almost at that point on some coasters there.

WDW is my only "happy place".

We had a great 12 day trip in June. Read through this thread and was still nervous about fitting in some rides. I am 5'5 280 and about a 46" waist. Hubby is 6'5 286, and sis is 5'6 approximately 310. Had no problems on anything we rode. We rode everything we wanted and the only ride sis didn't ride with us was SDMT. That was only because our group split up the day we rode. Most of the time we rode with one of the kids, but me and hubby rode Dumbo and Aladdin together due to grandpa wanting a grand kid with him. Yes the seatbelt will still work on two adults and your vehicle will go up and down unless you get the Dumbo with the broken stick. If that happens joke and laugh, it truly is funny and memorable. I loved space mountain and didn't have a problem getting out quickly. The best advice here really is to push yourself to the back and then out. On all seatbelt rides we had plenty of extra seatbelt. We had the time of our lives and never felt out of place.

This is a loooong thread to go back in but both my DH and I are Pooh-sized, so I'll be earmarking it. I'm not so concerned with me fitting on the rides (and DH knows his limits) or finding a pack (unless you know the FUL Peabody won't fit someone with broad shoulders) but I'm actually more concerned about his hamstrings as he's already mentioned having to get sports massages and such just so he won't be in pain.

Any thoughts? It's hard for him at Disney being a nearly 7 foot tall half giant, but he does love it so. :bitelip:

I think I have asked this before, but I have no idea what page it was on ( or if it was even this thread!) Now that we are in the full swing of hot and humid weather I really need help! I was at Target yesterday because many people seem to recommend it for so many things. I had lots of fun buying my fan misters and 1st Aid stuff, but clothes? Omg. It was awful. All those lovely summer dresses that everyone seems to be wearing are about a foot too long on me in the XL sizes. I am 5'2" and usually wear XL or XXL and size 14-18 depending on the type of clothing. Where can I find summer dresses for short rounds?! I am not a catalog shopper because I like to see how something feels. ( I am very sensitive to some materials) And, to add insult to injury, I tried on a super large sports bra that practically strangled me because it lifted everything up so high! So please, if you have recommendations on where I can find XL petite sized clothing, please advise. Thanks!

I also have trouble with fabrics, and I'm a bit short and very busty. Lots of things that don't bother others feel scratchy or itchy to me. I'm 5'4" and usually wear a 16W.

Here are the places I shop:

Dillards has a wide selection if you go to the largest store in your area. The smaller the Dillards, the smaller the selection. The stores that carry "bridge" usually also have a much larger plus section. They do carry a few items in plus-petite, which will be in the plus area, not the petite area. Remember that the petite items are not just shorter but a little smaller overall, so you'll want to go up a size. Dillard's also has the most comfortable capri cargo pant that I always wear to the parks. Always. It is a thin but durable cotton material that really breathes with just enough spandex to stretch a bit for comfort and a really comfortable stretch waist that is NOT gathered, so it lays flat all the way around, giving a much more flattering shape. These are the ONLY pants I wear in the park.

Wal-Mart: I was really surprised that I found anything at Wal-Mart that looked cute. My daughter kept telling me, and we had to swing by there for something specific (after probably a decade of boycotting that store), and I found several shirts.

Talbots is my most expensive option, but I swear they are worth every penny. I have sweat pants from there that are ten years old that still look new. Everything I buy there lasts and lasts. Their sizes are very consistent, so once you figure out what size you are, it's easy to buy from them. BE SURE YOU GO TO A PLUS STORE. They also have Petites in Plus sizes. You can go online and have things in the store put on hold for you so that when you get there you know things are ready for you to try on.

Lane Bryant is nice because you can order online, and they deliver to the store for free. I spend a ton of money upfront to try stuff on, and most of it gets refunded as soon as I try it on because I return so much of it. It's hit or miss, but it's worth the time, trouble, and upfront investment. They have lots of knee-length dresses that may work for you. Their long-length dresses are very long -- too long for me at 5'3". Honestly, I don't buy a lot of stuff there, but practically half of my daughter's wardrobe comes from there. WATCH FOR THEIR 40% OFF SALES -- seriously, they do flash sales for 40% off the entire store.

Macy's has a lot of clothes that look like they came from Wal-Mart but are at Dillard's prices. Make sure you go there when they are having a sale so that you get the best deals. And just look through everything to find the good stuff. They DO have good stuff, but you have to look.

Ross is tough for me because their merchandise is always changing. Everyone tells me if you go often, you'll find more stuff, but I don't have the time for that. A lot of their merchandise is for younger people, so depending on your age, you may find a lot. My daughter finds a lot there.

Kohl's is one of my favorites. Their pricing is amazing, and I always find something. Their cargo capris are not nearly as nicely made or comfortable as the ones at Dillards, but they are half the price when they are on sale (almost the same price when regular price). This is another store to make sure you go when they are having a big sale.

Old Navy has some nice tee shirts that are super soft, but you have to order plus sizes. They are having 30% off the entire store today. I've had good luck with their tee shirts, but I haven't ordered anything else because I don't want to deal with returns.

Eddie Bauer has XXL which fits me very nicely, but they don't carry a ton in that size in the smaller stores. I have to go to the big mall. I've never really seen dresses, but I get a lot of tee shirts from them.

That's all I can think of right now, but if I think of others, I'll post again.

Also, I am not sure where you are from, but the sun is a lot stronger in California than many other places across America, and in Florida, you really want fabrics that breathe. Take my advice and do not wear dark colors. Even when it is 50 degrees in the winter, the sun can really heat up a black pair of pants or shirt or even some shoes, especially if made of synthetic fabrics. And the synthetic fabrics just do not breathe, which will leave you feeling like you're wearing saran wrap in Florida. The best way to go is light to medium colors in breathable cotton (with some stretch added like spandex) for both Florida and California.
