Spin-off unusual allergies

I am thankfully not allergic to an foods but I am alleergic to morphine and coedine.

I have an aunt who developed a severe allergy to garlic in her 60's now try eating out with that allergy, it is not fun

I have oral allergy syndrome and am allergic to all fresh fruit and some fresh vegetables (some worse then others) Frozen, canned, and cooked is fine.

My FIL has some sort of allergy to certain raw fruits such as apples, peaches, cherries, etc...but he can have grapes. Weird.

My bf is horribly allergic to cinnamon. Bums me out because Autumn is my favorite season, but because of his allergy, I can't have cinnamon anything in the house (Scentsy, pies, candles, etc). I felt awful when I made Indian food the other night only to discover I had bought a red curry 'spice blend' that contained cinnamon, instead of straight red curry powder. Poor guy. He puts up with my lactose intolerance, though. He scoured the county to find lactose-free ice cream for me, and it's actually really good!

Caffeine and (as far as I've been able to work out) pesticides: when I eat non-organic produce I get that horrible itchy inner ear thing.

Tangerines. Just touching one makes me break out in hives.

And my doctor put in my history that I have an allergy to the Z-pak also because I get horrible stomach cramps from it. Every time I get a sinus infection I have to take 2 pills/day for the next 2 weeks. Kind of stinks, but is so much better than the horrid cramping.

Compazine - took that for nausea when I was pregnant with DD in 1978.

Heard it hasn't been made in several years though.

Aloe----and they're putting aloe in EVERYTHING nowadays.

Shellfish---crustaceans, not mollusks. But that isn't terribly unusual.

Horseradish---You'd be surprised what restaurants put horseradish in.

The sun. Not as bad as the kids in that Nicole Kidman movie though. I am seriously white.

Mostly medications. Dilaudid, codeine, ceclor, and Benadryl. Although Benadryl is more of an adverse reaction than a full out allergy. But when people see it on my charts they laugh that I have an anti allergy medicine on my allergy list. :rotfl:

I just went on a cruise with someone allergic to garlic. She had to preorder her dinner meals the night before.

Then there's the cilantro thing. It's not an allergy, it's actually a genetic anomaly. Some people, like DD, find cilantro tastes like soap.

I have a question for the people with pineapple allergies. Is it truly an allergy, or are you exceptionally sensitive to the proteolytic enzymes in fresh/raw pineapple?

DD is allergic to pineapple (fresh, canned, juice, extract it doesn't matter) she breaks out in full body hives. She is also allergic to mango and kiwi and can go into anaphylactic shock from gerbils.

I dunno. Our throats close up and we break out into hives and get itchy ears and stuff. My was tested at the allergist and registered a 10 on a scale of 1-4. He carries an epipen for it.

Not sure if it's a "true" allergy or not, but we stay the hell away from pineapple.

My son is allergic to shellfish(not weird) and raw apples. If they are cooked it's ok. I am allergic to anything with acetaminophen in it.

I believe my daughter has this. She says that bananas, pineapple, raw carrots, and other fruits and veggies make her tongue itch. Once after eating baby carrots, she had two hives on her lips and an itchy throat. I looked into having her tested for food allergies, but I'd have to have her off of antihistamines for 2 weeks. She has wicked seasonal allergies, so we're just going to avoid those foods until winter when I can have her tested.

I wonder if it's actually the wax on the apple. Apparently, being allergic to the wax is kind if common. Maybe peeling them would work.

Nope, it's the apple. He was skin tested. He has severe seasonal tree allergies also and the Doctor said it has something to do with that.

Makes sense. At least it shouldn't be too difficult to avoid apples. Trees on the other hand are a real problem, unless you live in the desert or the tundra.

I think I'm allergic to calamari and bay scallops. Not sea scallops, just the little eraser size bay ones. They make me nauseous and dizzy and give me the chills. My Mom's allergic to peaches, among other things.

I bet that's what it is. Baby carrots are a bad one for me as well. I used to eat fresh fruits and vegetables like crazy and it popped up out of nowhere for me when I was about 25.
