June 1, 2015 Wonder to Alaska

Hey everyone, I'll be adding some new names to FE list tonight and I have 2 questions. 1) For those of you on the Adult Only FE list, do you want to be removed from the main list? If so let me know, otherwise if you want to do both lists I'll keep you on it. 2) Is there anyone else wanting to be place on the FE list? :rolleyes1

Hi everyone! So excited to be on this cruise with all of you. My husband and I have cruised to Alaska once before. Hoping to find more cruise family/friends here. - Daisy & Rob

Hey everyone, we've had 2 more families join the FE since I posted, soooooo, in order to keep the FE list manageable for everyone I've started a Group 2. Each family has the option of just staying in their own group or braving it by being in more than 1 group:rotfl2: . Let me know if you want to be one of those brave souls and I'll add you to the next group. I hope this makes sense. :teacher: The link has been updated.

To get enough posts, you can go to any thread and comment or add advice, good luck.

Hello, I'm curious about the list, what does "DGM" stand for in the third adult column?

Hi Mmouse, sorry about the delay in reply. DGM is " dear grandmother". I wasn't sure how to "label" the in-laws that are traveling with the main family. Not sure if that makes sense. :confused3

DH and I just booked our first Alaskan cruise - looking forward to joining ya'll for the adventure.

Hi all,

Travelling from Sydney, Australia and this will be our 3rd Disney Cruise. Have sailed on the Dream and Fantasy, so looking forward to sailing on the Wonder for the first time.

It's me, DH and DS who will be 11 when we cruise. He's excited as he can finally go to Edge. Our last cruise was this past May and he was 2 weeks short of his 10th birthday, but sadly still too young for Edge. Hoping he might spend more than 10min in the clubs this time.

Did the FE thing on our last cruise and loved it, so will probably sign up again. Will head over to FB and find out how to do that.

Cheers
Angela

It's still way early but is anyone else really excited about this cruise or have ya'll been to Alaska before? I'm somewhat obsessed about researching the excursions and picking just the right one although I have noticed weather will be a concern so I am pulling back on my excitement level in case something is cancelled. Just wondering if anyone else is shopping for excursions this early too.

I know what you mean, Taysa. We booked this cruise almost as soon as it was announced. But I've been mildly obsessing about it for the past few weeks. I found hours of YouTube videos about the Disney Wonder in Alaska and have been watching and watching. I wrote my own countdown timer and put it on my web browser startup pages at home and at work.

By the way, Hello all! This is my first post on the board. DW, DS (13 when the cruise starts), DD (11 when the cruise starts), DD (19 months when the cruise starts), and me, from Pennsylvania, will be joining you on this cruise. We're all excited! Well, maybe not the youngest, but Disney Cruise baby pictures are pretty cute. :-) This will be our second Disney cruise. After we cruised on the Wonder this past February, we all had such a great time and it became clear that this is how we want to vacation from now on.

We did the fish extenders the last time and will be doing it again. It was such a blast. I can say this because DW did all of the work and planning and I got to reap all of the benefits. :-)

I'm with both of you on being excited and can't wait for the cruise. I did a little reading about the excursions, and tried to read a couple of the trip reports to get a idea of what sound interesting. Mr.Tracy, if you found some good videos, can you link them here or let us know the titles so we can search them? I'd love to be able to watch some. I hadn't thought about searching YouTube.

Since it would be WAY to early to start on a packing list (without driving my DH crazy) I've starting thinking about my door decorations. I found the door measurements on the boards a while ago so I've put up a "mock" door in our spare bedroom so I have a blank surface to work on and know exactly how the door will look on the cruise. Mr.Tracy, I see from your signature line you were on the Wonder in February. Do you remember if the door locks were the type where you slid your card into the door lock or did you just tap your card to the panel? Also, I someone posted that the doors on the Wonder had so much paint on them that the magnets wouldn't stick. Did you have any issues?

In reading over the trip reports I saw some amazing photography. It makes me think that I may want to get something other than my phone to take pictures with. I'm just not sure I want to be loaded down with a camera, but I would love to get some really good shots to display.

Unfortunately, I do not have enough posts to allow me to post links, yet. So all I can suggest is to go to YouTube and search on DisneyCruiseLineNews. This is a YouTube user id. Then click on the Playlists tab. You'll see a few playlists regarding Alaska.

The door locks on the Wonder were the kind that you just tap your card on the panel. The kids had their cards on a lanyard and we sometimes had to take them out of the little sleeve to make them scan at the door. I figure the field from the panel is not very strong.

We didn't do the door magnets, although we are considering making some for this cruise. I saw many door magnets on many, many doors, though. So at least some folks had no trouble with the magnets sticking.

Thanks so much. I'll continue with my plans, but bring along stronger magnets in case things don't stick.

Also, thanks for the video suggestion. I know what I'll be doing this afternoon!

Just got back from the 8/25 Alaska cruise and it was amazing! We did the helipcopter dogsled in Skagway, which was one of the coolest things we've ever done! I used my gopro to film it, you can go to YouTube and search "Gopro Hero 3- Helicopter Ride and Dog Sledding in Skagway Alaska" to see our trip to the glacier to dogsled. Highly recommend that when you go. Have fun!

AWESOME video, thank you so much for sharing! I'm so interested in this excursion!

Great video! Unfortunately, that excursion will probably be out of our price range, but it was great to watch. What other excursions did you do?

I'd like to do the train ride, but we'll have to see what the budget will allow at that time. The rest of the ports we might just wander around the town and explore on our own.

I'm interested in finding one of the places to pan for gold!
