Marathon Weekend 2016

Thanks WhereInFlorida. Do you know if there's any way to access that info for other races? With Marathon weekend POT due, I'm kind of bugging out that I might have forgotten to submit for W&D.

Looks like the link is not on the W&D page anymore. It would be under Runner Info > Proof of Time on the W&D page on Rundisney.com

^I'm a big believer in maximizing volume (whether it has worked for me is debatable).
But yes, that's 38 hours 36 minutes over 28 days. Mostly after the kids are in bed. I don't sleep much.

Need your help guys! I broke my toe and now can't run. What can I do in the meantime. I'm doing the 10k and we were at 4 miles for training. I can walk those distances but the movement of running agitates it. I know this because I ran on it before I knew it was broken. Any tips so I don't have to start from square one?

A bike is always excellent. It will keep your legs strong and also keep the endurance up. If you can't do a bike you can try an elliptical at a gym if you have access.

I've never seen his videos so thanks for posting. The Marathon one is a good reminder about what I chose Disney for my first. I also watched the Avengers Half video and was reminded just how bad that wind was. Nothing like grit and dirt in the water at water stops.

No problem. I actually enjoyed seeing the Star Wars 1/2 as well and the scenery from the Big Sur Marathon aren't too bad either.

After an entire summer of pain with plantar fasciitis, I totally understand and sympathize. Hope you can get back to it soon.

Its getting better. I can walk without any pain now. I did a mile on the treadmill last night and it didn't hurt. I don't think I am ready for the street yet but I'm getting there and I go to the doctor on 10/14. Hopefully I can start training after that.

Hello all! I'm new to DIS and also new to RunDisney events, but this will be my first marathon and I'm so glad to be joining a community of fellow Disney fans + runners! Just wanted to say hi :)

Welcome and congrats on taking the leap on your first marathon.

A friend of mine broke her toe a month before our first 10k. She relied on walking & the elliptical to finish out her training period, and was able to finish the race strong.

Welcome and good luck in your first marathon! Good choice in RunDisney for a first! The race is supported like no other and the cheering supporters, volunteers and runners makes it a real positive run!

Thank you so much for posting this link, I had never seen his video's before but am a big fan of Lee Hoedl's (I think I have watched his marathon ones like 10 times already) and turns out Eddie ran a local half here that I ran and I just had a grand time watching his video and reminiscing

I am no expert but I would say if you can walk pain free I would keep that up as much as possible and maybe add in biking if its available to keep up that cardio, lucky our bodies are pretty awesome and provided you don't lose to much time you can pick up where you left off fairly easily

Welcome to the board and to the "we are running our first marathon at Disney" club, I assure you, you will find nothing but awesome advice and support here

Now to my post ... so I originally thought that I had run out of chances to improve my POT submission but I didn't realize that my half on sunday still falls within submission time, but here is the thing my last two races where I have tried to put pressure on myself to improve my PR have turned out to be two of my worst half's ever so I think I am really going to go into sunday with no pressure and not even think about my time and just enjoy the run and see what happens, If I improve by a few minutes awesome, if I don't oh well, Am I crazy for going in with this mindset?

That was my first sign that I was getting past my pf. Can you stand on your toes with your heels hanging over a step and lower/raise yourself on your toes? That exercise really helped me to get it stretched back out once I could stand it. The pain was too severe for months.

I still have some pain in that foot from over-compensating during my runs while dealing with pf, but it doesn't seem to be limiting me with my mileage - back up to 35 miles/week now. Running a 12 miler tomorrow - fingers crossed.

I also appreciate the fasteddie link. I watched several of his runDisney videos yesterday and they reminded me why I am doing this training. I love WDW runs, and I run them the way that he does - totally relaxed and having fun with the people around me. I may have to try the group thing one day - looked like a blast. I have run with friends/family in WDW, but not nearly that many.

I don't think so. Last fall I went into my half for proof with the pressure for getting a good time, finished in 2:02, then at the current Disneyland half I didn't care so much about time, stopped for pictures and finished in 2:06, crazy that when I really 'tried' I was only 4 minutes faster. I think it did have to do with the pressure not being on of getting a set time and just running with how I felt and not having any worries. Good luck!

I love the videos...he gets called out by name in every Disney race start. He is also super fast, some of his videos may not look like it, but he has a personal best of around 3:05 for a Marathon!!!!!!!! Holy Crap!!!

btw, in his easy run for the Disneyland 2015 10k, he finished 20 seconds behind me - I spent the entire 20 minutes watching his video to see if I was in the shot. hehe.

I am going to start some stretching and strengthening exercises probably tomorrow. may also get those sock things that you wear to bed. I don't know if I can fall asleep with them on but I may have to try. I really want to start back up running once I go to the doctor. My friend is running a 1/2 on Cape Cod tomorrow and he sent me a text saying how beautiful it is down there and wishing I could run with him. I'm like, "Yeah, me too!" I may not get up to 35 miles a week like you have by January but I want to get as high as I can without aggravating my foot. January needs to happen as pain-free as possible.

I wouldn't mind running in a group too. Just seems fun. Only problem is, I only know one other person that runs. But, I am bringing my GoPro and I am capturing as much as I can and making my own video so I can relive the race as many times as I want.

Yeah, he has qualified for Boston. He ran it in 2014. Between always being on the Marathon Show (of which he is now the host), and the Mickey Miles podcast, he knows all the Disney people so they always find him at the races. He has come a long way since about 5 years ago when he was like 100 lbs overweight.

Wow. I lost only 40 and probably need 20 more but I can't imagine ever reaching that speed. Definitely not in a couple of years like he seemingly did. Impressive

What have you been training towards. I think if you want to improve your time your best bet is to find a pace group for that pace and try and run with them. If you're feeling great at the start and go out too fast there is the potential to bonk, if you go out to slow at the beginning it can be hard to make up time. That being said there's nothing wrong with just going out relaxed and you may find out that it works great for you. For me personally when I just run and don't worry about pace I usually wind up running a minute per mile faster than I want to or a minute slower. I need a pacer as much to slow me down in the beginning when all the adrenaline is flowing as I do for encouragement later in the race.

Wow we must have been close my clock time was 48.11 so we probably finished within 30 seconds of each other.

I finished in 48:46 (clock 49:23) when I wasn't really trying to run super fast - I guess I had some adrenaline in me because I was close to my previous PR, by 1 second. Though it seems like maybe I gave that run more than expected and hence my half marathon wasn't that great: 1:52 hrs (I couldn't catch that 1:50 pacer).

Anyway, Eddie finished around 20 seconds later 48:57 (clock 49:44), so you were much faster than all of us.
