Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

So sorry to hear this kelly 1! Is shockwave therapy something like ultrasound?
Well, its good that you are getting treatment and taking care of yourself. Deep breaths...and peaceful mantras, that's how I try to get through!
Ultrasound is not like Shockwave they explained yesterday. The Shockwave aggravates the tendon he said it is painful, it gets the body to switch onto the healing process and it takes 3 to 5 treatments with rest. They ultrasounded the heel yesterday, heel is the worst on my run today question myself if I can do this. Digging deep this morning to getting 6.5 km done, it will be ok. Just must remember slow and easy quit beating myself up! I will prevail!!

Yeah, I'd say nothing new on race day...but I WOULD recommend waiting to try yours on the expo (they'll be there). Their sizing chart is good online, but as they have added new sewing facilities their sizing hasn't always been consistent - I haven't bought a new skirt in a long time but I just read a post on FB that some people think the new ones run smaller.

Personally, I can't do Raw Threads shirts for running. The fabric isn't breathable enough for what I need. :confused3

Thank you! I think I'll try them on at the expo so I know what size to order in the future.

P.S. I hope everyone knew I was just joking about stopping the Sparkle Skirt talk! :)

Every time I drool over the sparkle skirt I look at how short the shorts are underneath. I have thighs and I have to have long shorts to not chafe... I learned that lesson the hard way at Tink last year! It hurt for a month.

And as an aside-
Anyone else struggling with training this week? I missed yesterdays run (Saturday's long run left me still feeling super tight in my quads and hammys- and I NEVER have problems there) and then if I lace up tonight it'll be because I HAVE to.....not because I WANT to. It used to be because I NEED to :(

After Sunday's dreadful 9-miler that left me with a touch of tendonitis in my right ankle, I've been trying to ease off a bit. I punked out on yoga yesterday, and skipped this morning's 5-miler. I'm going to try to get out for a 5-miler tomorrow morning instead of Thursday, since I'm jam-packed with morning meetings on Thursday. Plus, that'll give me some recovery time between tomorrow and my 10-miler on Sunday. That'll be my last >1 hour training run before PHM Weekend. :)

I am so looking forward to my taper.

I'll keep going, although I'm a resistant sparkle-wearer! I have many, many sparklysoul headbands, and that was the extent of my sparkle for a long time. I highly recommend them - they are awesome and well worth the cost!!! Then I ordered a skirt from iglow on etsy because my kids wanted to dress up for 2014 PHM 5K. I agreed to a plain top with a sparkly skirt. Then I ordered a polka dot skirt from iglow for the 2015 marathon. Again, plain top. For PHM, I ordered a sparkle green skirt with a plain top. I love the green, but I've never worn anything that bright ever! Now I have the sparkle athletic lime green on the way for a future race - those look light (both in weight and color) and short and then I can wear short shorts under. So they are promising! Any sparkle athletic reviews?

As for those considering expo shopping, I am so jealous of those who can shop there! Trying it on is definitely the way to go, if at all possible. Two reasons I can't: 1) I'm usually at the expo with our three boys; and 2) I'm the opposite of an impulse shopper. It takes me a very long time to make a decision, and I rarely buy something without an unreasonable amount of research and consideration. I've been considering the sparkle skirt I just ordered for over a month. So for me, not a good combination as an indecisive shopper at a crowded expo with three boys!

I have just ordered a hiker chic style they are 2 inches longer, shorts and shirt. Working great for me the little longer length, I too have larger quads chafing issues. You can always ask alterations desk at sparkle skirts to a length to shorts. They are very quick to respond to questions.

I just started with Sparkle Skirts. I like the hikers because I prefer a little more length. i only have 2 that I have purchased off of the FB group. Hopefully I can get something at the Expo. I really like Skirt Sports too. I found the color I needed in their Happy Girl skirt which is a longer length.

I have a SkirtSports skirt too- it was just a more flattering cut on me. But neither Sparkle or Skirt Sports have a plain dark green skirt! And customs required 12 weeks. So I'm gonna end up tacking some hunter green fabric on top of my black Gym Girl skirt to finally get a dark green running skirt.

Good plan. I've heard of others doing that. I ran in a Skirt Sports last weekend. It worked great!

I am sure this is a stupid question but what is the iGiftbag?

Back in the day...one would pick up a race number and a "goodie bag". It would have coupons and stuff...those things you put on your beer can to keep it cool, shoe laces, sample energy bars and stuff like that....lots of junk and sometimes a treasure, always fun to see what you might get. Now "igiftbag" which is basically advertisements and coupons. A few pages back someone posted a link and soon runDisney will too.

Crap. I always miss these....I'm not on FB :(

I'm on fb, checked for the post about charity bibs, and didn't find it, so...

*drums fingers on desk*

well since we don't have bibs to gush over, I guess i can head to SS website and get myself into trouble....er...shop LOL

Which SS?

Sparkleskirts, skirtsports, or sweetspotskirts? :)

I'm the one from FB who just realized sparkle skirts is different than sparkle athletic.

I was liking the SparkleLight basics but I like the SA stuff too. I like that there's no thick waistband and pocket there. Not a fan of pockets at the waist. But I think my cousin wants to coordinate and I think she likes SS not SA so I'm at a loss.

Anyone know if SS will bring their sparkle lights to the expo? Then maybe I can compare in person.

Do you put antichafing stuff far up on the bare part of the thighs? Should help with that if you otherwise don't mind the length. During wine/dine 2014 I stopped at the lube station and put Vaseline all the way up bc my shorts were rising waaaay higher than normal and I hadn't used the bodyglide high enough. Thank goodness for Vaseline, even though it feels awful.

A bunch of coupons and ads.

Thank you for the info! I didn't know they did that!

It was weird - it was on the Princess FB group and it basically said that they had a couple of bibs that were left/had been abandoned and all you needed to do was pay the bib price before their deadline (I want to say it was like 10 p.m.) and that the fundraising for these bibs had already been met so there would be no fundraising requirement.

Last year at Tink I wore a new skort, I had tried running in it for a short 3 mile run and had no issues, at mile 6 I guess the shorts had stretched out and rode up. I used the bio freeze at an aid station to make it through. So I just received my pink nike skort for the half and the shorts are also short, I am debating wearing a pair of additional shorts under it or using body glide. I have never used the body glide so I am bervouse about something new. But I dont have time to try the skirt as the weather is too cold right now... So pondering shorts or body glide...
