Resort Survey ... on Resort Fees

Seems to me that Walt Disney World is the cash cow that current execs seem intent on slaughtering.

That really is it in a nutshell.

To me it seems that the execs treat WDW like a monetary printing press. Use all you want..... then just print more. One day that's going to stop working out so well for them. And they have pushed things much further than ever before.

Stayed at Doubletree one night because I came in a day early. Great deal with Mousesavers. Free breakfast and a room discount.
I don't use a car at Wdw. The DTD hotels have decent bus service, running every 30 min, so I prob wouldn't rent a car staying there.
Got 1 bedroom suite and free breakfast for the price of a Wdw value resort, and could walk to DTD.

If Disney continues with crazy price hikes, and adds resort fees,(wow for our usual 2 week stay that would really add up) staying at Doubletree would be a viable option.

Have had a few stays here, for a week at a time. The suites renovation turned out great and I really enjoy this hotel.
I would gladly stay here over Disney hotels - especially since I collect Hilton points.

I wonder if Disney would get the hint if everyone who had a current reservation called to inquire if they were going to be charged this resort fee during their trip?

(Corrected since I was told that a resort I mentioned DOES have resort fees. Ugh.)

I do dislike the parking fees that the Universal resorts charge but I do want to mention that Cabana Bay is nothing like a Disney Value. It is more similar to a moderate and is actually in some ways a bit nicer than those too.

I've mentioned this but Caribe Royale is a nice, nearby resort too and it didn't have any fees the last time I checked.

Caribe and sister resort Buena Vista Suites both have resort fees.

Ugh, them too? Thanks for correcting me. What a horrible trend.

I think they added last year. About $10 at Buena and $20 at Caribe. Haven't stayed at them since. Buena can still be a deal even with since they used to charge for Internet, but so frustrating.

They would also get a hint from those surveyed who responded negatively to the question (assuming that's what was asked).

We stayed at Caribe just over a year ago so it must have happened just after. I had Caribe and its sister resort penciled as my go-to's but now I'll have to find somewhere else.

This would push me over the edge into staying off-site, and I am a DIE-HARD believer in staying on-site. It's bad enough that we as a society don't include tax in the total price, but to further add on extra charges is tacky, and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I already avoid hotels that charge a resort fee in my travels elsewhere (5-10 countries per year), and I'm at a point in my life where I feel comfortable taking a stand and applying that rule to Disney, too. We already pay a premium to stay on-site, and that privilege has been subject to price hikes every year. There's just not enough value in it to justify an extra fee that steep.

I have been thinking this for years. My fear is we will all keep going until we hit our breaking point and it will happen to a lot of us at the same time. Attendance will plummet so fast that they will not be able to control it and the place I love to visit will be beyond repair because the cash cow will be dead.

This thread has gotten big, and maybe I missed something.... But, has anyone actually taken this survey? The fact that the survey as is was originally posted states that it is an average of $350 for the Polynesian just doesn't sit right with me.

I don't recall seeing anyone who actually has completed this survey. If they have, then I apologize for this post, but if nobody has completed this, there is a lot of discussion about a topic that is just speculation.

All the changes that are going on right now are making it hard to follow, but this survey just doesn't seem legit to me.

You're on the rumors and news forum. Speculation is what we do here.

I know, but maybe we could use our brain power to come up with something exceptional. Like phase three at Hollywood Studios is going to be based upon Stitch.

Who knows?

Just saying, that screenshot doesn't look like it would be hard to fudge...

I get that it's hard to believe that's what they are up to, but there were a number of reports of this survey. That screenshot isn't the only one.

Orlando Weekly had an article yesterday referring to the surveys. They point out only Deluxe resorts are listed - I remember that being discussed 2 years ago when we were there - that maybe it would be only those. They also speculate it being tied to Universal research. In the end we hope for the best and react as necessary for our individual situations.

Disney's own information is incorrect, $350 a night for the Poly. The cheapest rate for 2016 is a standard view room for $508 per night.
