Pokemon GO In the Parks?

Wrong! Works like a charm to hatch eggs.

Interesting. It didn't work this way for us at all. My poor dear son had to go take a walk to get his eggs to hatch ;)

There seems to be a speed aspect related to hatching eggs - if you are going too fast the game won't recognize the movement. Walking is still the most reliable way to hatch

Supposedly it's coded so that it can't be used while driving.
Your eggs won't evolve based on travel distance while you are in a car, but you can still catch pokemon and get balls at pokestops, my husband had no trouble playing while he was the passenger and I was driving yesterday.

My son and I went to lour local park yesterday and it has like a HUGE playground but then a bike path (that we usually are never on bc we play at the play ground, LOL) anyways there were a TON of poke stops and a few gyms on the bike path and we met HOARDS of people playing the game on this bike path, lol...when we got to the end of the path we sat down on a bench to rest for a few minutes next to an older gentleman, and he asked me if there was a marathon going on today with cell phones bc of all the people there :rotfl2:I told him it was pokemon go and he was like oh well that explains it :rotfl2:I seriously have never laughed so hard in my life! Then my son was like "why are we walking so much my feet hurt!" And I was like seriously? I am way older than you and I am still ready to go...keep up, LOL...kids this generation, LOL

Hey guys! Sorry if this is in the wrong board- mods, appreciate the move if so! -but I was curious- Pokemon GO just launched. Anyone at the parks see if there are interesting Pokemon to catch, Gyms/Pokestops at park locations, etc.?

I work for a video game company and our office turned out to be a Gym so it's been a pretty hot topic around here!
My kids are loving Pokemon GO so far - such a blast from their past - and I'm loving that there are actually Pokemon to find in the Disney Parks! How fun!

Thanks for starting this great thread! We chose it to be featured on today's DIS Daily Fix!

I played it a little at Epcot Friday. Next time I'll bring power bank so I can really use it.

I obviously need to edit this. "Supposedly" doesn't that it is. Was hoping they would have thought about this potentially being a problem but guess not. We did use it in our car, couple days after it was released as well with me driving and DH playing, although I have to say its pretty annoying to have to slow down or wait a little longer at a stop for him to catch a Weedle sitting on the stop sign, lol.
On another note, DH is definitely signed on for going to WDW when I was hoping to now that there are pokemon in the parks. And this will most likely increase the number of road trips (extended weekend trips) we do this year!

If he turns off the AR, the pokemon becomes fixed on the screen, so you don't have to worry about driving off without it :) Makes life much easier when playing in the car

I am jealous of you who can get their spouse to play while they drive... My husband looked at me like I was crazy when I asked him to try to catch some for me over the weekend.

If anyone is wondering what universal's big thing for the next park that has elements in every park is going to be...................

Does this mean lots more people staring at their phones and not looking up ?
Looks fun but I know the stories will start to come out of people getting hit by scooters...etc....

So, we're spending tons of money to take our kids to Disney, where there are a billion special things to see and do and experience in the real world, and they're walking around staring at their phone and chasing after imaginary virtual creatures?
Short answer: Yes :)
No but really. If they are HUGE fans of this game I would seriously schedule time for it and then be very clear about what else you guys are doing
I was at DHS yesterday and was playing the game and saw at least 5 other groups of people (mostly grown ups) playing.
I mean, you could always put your foot down and say, No we are going to Disney to do Disney stuff. It's all up to you

Are the gyms and Pokemon generated by the cell phone or the game makers? I'm not completely understanding this. DGD finds Pokemon all around our house. Are the gyms and such in places like WDW generated by individual phones or are there for everybody?
