The Running Thread - 2016

First I would like to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. Everything is going exactly as it should at this point!!!! Baby is measuring great and heart beat is good! For those who were asking this will be #2. After some discussions with my wife we determined to skip a travel marathon or a just adult trip, and go back to WDW sometime this spring or early summer with DD for our last family of 3 trip, but with a bandit. lol Well at least thats the plan for now.

For some reason I can not get the picture to post correctly, but its still exciting!!

So glad everything is going according to plan! Great u/s pic-so when is your due date? I hope your wife doesn't have to go through the hot summer in her last few months for comfort's sake.

And look at you planning another Disney trip-these boards kinda makes you wanna go and go and go some more! Very happy for you Jerry-hope you're feeling better.

ATTQOTD: Hokas don't work for me. Anything less than a 6mm drop gives me shin splints and knee pain even after the lengthy transition runs. I loved the idea of Adidas Boosts and their super cushion. The logo/cage hurt my foot though. Oh, and so many shorts just don't work. Loose shorts with their built in panty are awful. I spend half the run pulling them out of places they aren't supposed to be. Tights with anything less than a 4 in inseam (I prefer 5 in most) are also bad for the same reason.

ATTQOTD: ever since my first Ironman I refuse to pay full price on stuff at the finisher tent because it's just too damn expensive. I like some of it, I just can't justify the cost. In any event, the wife waited till the Ironman Store had a 40% sale and hit me up with this years finisher jacket and polo.

Same here, that tent is a nightmare. I went to the store looking for the finisher jacket at 40% off and they had M, L, XL & XXL. I wear a small. Okay, maybe the finisher's half zip? M, L, XL & XXL...no smalls. Fine, they have the hoodie with all the names on it, that would be cool...but they only have XXL. Honestly Ironman, do you even know who you're clientele is??? Needless to say I didn't score any deals.

@roxymama love the onion goggles. I had to show Mr. Ariel484 your picture as he cannot handle chopping onions...if he does it takes him like 20 minutes to recover. Potential future gift?! His birthday is coming up in March...:scratchin :rotfl2:

I forgot one present. My hubby got me new goggles. .......

I have a pair of swimming goggles I purchased for this very reason! I can cut 2-3 onions and it not be that big of a deal, but when I am cutting a few pounds for a jambalaya for tailgating the goggles come out. lol

Thanks! Due date is August 16, so she unfortunately will have to suffer through the hot summer months, which she has already stated she isn't looking forward to. I expect our AC bill to be a bit higher this summer. lol. I do not have her fully on board yet with a trip yet. We will have a discussion in greater detail this weekend along with my aunt who is a AP holder who wants to go with her family so everyone can play with DD3. The good news is she is open to the idea and I haven't been told NO... I may have been told i am crazy. I think she is worried about people saying we are those crazy WDW people going back again and again. I don't care much what others think about it for the most part, the times with family in the park are priceless. So many great memories on the trips we have taken so far.

QOTD: What are you most proud of doing running wise in 2016?

#1: Running 18 miles at a 9-9:30 pace around the Dubai Marina in 90+ degree weather with 98% humidity. This is the run after which I knew I could knock out the IMFL marathon.

#1a: IMFL marathon in 4:35
#1b: Beach to Beacon 10k in 55 minutes including stopping for a beer with friends halfway through

ATTQOTD:

I have several:

1. 10 mile PR in early Nov that I did not expect. I had a 10 mile training run on Saturday, and 4 miles before the race, since the plan called for 14 miles. The PR was 56 seconds faster then my previous PR for the distance
2. First Goofy and had so much fun, I will be trying Dopey in the future.
3. New monthly mileage highs in Oct, Nov, and probably Dec if I hit my miles the last two days. Also a new high in yearly Mileage, even though I ran only 112 total miles in Apr, May and June.

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this thread, but I've been RunningDisney since 2010. After recently "donating" my Garmin to my cross-country running daughter, I'm playing with what to do next. Would you please share your favorite apps for the iPhone for running? I don't mind paying if the app will do everything I want. I'm looking for these features:
  • Easy and clear use of intervals for run-walk-run.
  • Some way to know how far I've gone without digging out the phone to look; maybe a voice that tells me every so often?
  • Plays my music playlist.
  • Records my distance and pace.
Basically, I'm looking for a Garmin, an iPod, and a Galloway interval timer all in one. Is that too tall an order?

Thank you all for any help, and happy running in 2017.

I used to use the Runkeeper app all the time before getting my garmin (still use it as a back up) and it definitely has the last 3 options of your 4. You can program the voice to tell you pace, distance, speed by distance (e.g. every mile) or time (e.g. every 5 minutes). Looks like you can create intervals as well, but I've never used those options. It also uploads to strava.
