Marathon Weekend 2017!

I decided not to run on my own today and focus on the full (my first full). I will definitely be back for Dopey 2018 now. No doubt about it.
Sorry, but proud of you for all your training, Ryan. Wondered how you were dealing with all this, and you're making me (and I'm sure your parents) proud as usual. You are an exceptional young man, and I am proud to "know" you. Good luck in the marathon tomorrow!

The line for refunds is super long, and it is pouring with rain right now. If you can wait to come over for your medal and refund, I would come by later.

The characters were all out, but not sure they'll stay out with the rain (and now thunder in the distance) but the merchandise lines were short. Most people seemed in good spirits, but there were a few loud complainers.

Lot of traffic headed toward WWOS. Yikes.

Yup, DH took the bus from our resort and he said "It's crazy here! So glad I didn't drive-you should have seen the traffic." And once there, long lines. We have an ADR that was supposed to be a postwar celebration, but now I'm wondering if we'll make it. Will Disney reimburse our $10 if we miss it due to the lines at WWOS?

Thanks!

Wait so if we have Race Retreat and want a partial refund we have to go to the expo?

Thanks for the pep talk dis-runners. I almost pulled the plug on my Sunday volunteer shift. I just didn't want to be subjected to the extra harassment likely to come.

If you are likely to worry about things don't read my next advice.

Corrals Sunday are likely to be over stuffed and 'normal' crowded running conditions are likely to be exacerbated.

You will likely have half runners with you who will want to go out much faster than you should run your marathon. Run your pace.

Adding more runners to the course may stress food and water stations. Hopefully cool temps will keep this in check.

If Half runners bandit the second half of the full course, and accept full medals, Disney could run out of Full-Marathon-medals. I would expect to see some type of policing or halting of half bibs past the 13.1 mile marker. If people handing out medals don't give ½ runners a full medal, let it go. There are only enough medals for people who signed up for the full, Goofy and Dopey. Disney may have this completely covered this time. From over fifteen years of experience, my observation is they usually get new things wrong the first time.

Edit: It looks as if the are issuing Marathon bibs, so they expect to have enough capacity to hand out marathon medals to the additional marathoners.

Garbage bags make great windbreakers and ground cover. I would be going for this type of 'gear' over last minute trips to the expo. Ask a maintenance/room-service person for a bag or two.

Good luck, enjoy your Marathon. I would be neglecting my volunteer oath if I didn't say, "You're almost there."

I think they will. Just call them and explain the situation. They canceled one earlier for me because my flight delay caused me to miss a meal.

I was going to just go walk around the expo a bit but saw the traffic and detoured to HS. Good luck over there!

On a side note the run Mickey run jacket is a great windbreaker. Put it on when the wind was picking up going into Hollywood Studios because I was getting cold and it did the trick.

Yeah the full tomorrow is going to be interesting with the upgrades.

If I read correctly the half runners have to go to the Expo and get marathon bibs, so there shouldn't be any handing out of medals to folks in half bibs. I expect them to be pretty firm in culling half bibs or bib-less runners from the course tomorrow to prevent additional congestion.

So many runners on the Epcot loop today. We walked to DHS this morning and saw so many. Shouted encouragement to many. Folks with cowbells out in front of Boardwalk. Just can't keep folks down!!!

rD definitely did the right thing and I'm really impressed with how they are handling this. After lots of reasons to be upset with various things they do at times, this has been a first class response to a really bad set of circumstances.

Getting ready for lunch at Beaches and Cream. Had a good morning at DHS with the rain keeping lots of folks away. Lemonade out of lemons. :)

I'm pretty sure they had said for people who couldn't get to the expo they could email info to runDisney. Guessing they will process refunds electronically later. At least worth a try.

Thanks will probably do after things calm down.

On another note man am I glad I packed my cold weather clothes.

Question - I'm just curious on for those who switched from half to full how did that work? Looks like a brand new registration & you get a marathon bib at expo?

Awesome sitting at home & seeing so many photos/video of runners on social media out getting their miles in & people cheering. Hope the rain/storms end soon for you all for park touring or still getting the miles in.

Has anyone found out if they'll be mailing park hoppers and/or medals to Half-only runners who don't go to the expo today? I'd like to avoid adding to the crowds, if at all possible.

Awesome suprise water stop while running our unofficial Donald Half at the Polynesian this morning. The RODS volunteers were out in the rain handing out water and cheering people on. Thanks RODS! (Running for Orphans with Down's Syndrome) You made us laugh and smile. See you on the Marathon course tomorrow!
