Walt Disney Company increases stake in EuroDisney

We covered it a bit in the news round up but it's good to have a seperate thread on this topic.

I wonder what Disney's future plans are for this eventual overtaking.

At this point, they might as well.

They will eventually it's a gradual process.

See, to me it doesn't make financial sense for it to be a "gradual process". Why? Well, as Disney invests more $$$, supposedly the shares will be worth more, thus costing them more to buy the longer they wait. Seems like they'd want to buy all the stock they intended to buy before investing dollar one in the park.

They are currently still revitalizing the Magic Kingdom park. 2017 is also DLP's 25th anniversary. My guess is after the 25th they will start investing in additions and major changes to the park.

They could have a long term agreement with price set over x amount of time to prevent that. Not something they would disclose.

It's 1.5 billion Euros...not millions. So about $1.6 billion at today's exchange rate.

So basically they can either get an an Avatar Land or a My Magic + upgrade to the resort? It will most likely be a Star Wars expansion, which they were planning to do anyway.

Paris was going to do MyMagic+ but went against it for obvious reasons. MyMagic+ would also cost upwards of $2 billion unless they have figured out how to do it cheaper.

great... because for the 25th all they spent money on really was fixing stuff. Oh and Star tours 2. big wow. They didnt even manage to fix everything - space mountain cannon for example.

It will be interesting to see if we actually get something to show for the 1.5 billion. IF they waste it on MyMagic+ then there will be quite a few annoyed die hard DLRP fans.

Ideally we'll hopefully see at least the following urgent requirements:

  1. Star Wars land
  2. Give us back a night time parade
  3. Something / any new ride for DL park
  4. The village expansion thats been rumoured for many many years
  5. Disneyland hotel refurb
  6. Hotel Newyork refurb

I think it would be less than that now - R&D will be less 2nd time around, plus component costs may well be lower now than a few years ago. Plus the whole scale of the project (less parks/hotels) compared to WDW would make the cost much lower I'd have thought.

Space mountain isn't finished. They have another big refurb for it coming up that will replace the trains.

I think the studios is still a big focus. I'm sure Star Wars will continue to have a presence there.

They have been refurbing the hotels one by one so those are likely also in the works.

I thought the village was confirmed? Joe Rohde was said to be working on the project.

I know - but the cannon work is done as far as I'm aware and they failed to fix it after many months downtime. The one signature iconic effect of the paris park that no other park has and they couldnt get it working. Big disappointment.

oh dear..............

I'd have to look into it more. Maybe there is a reason they didn't fix it.

I suspect you're not a Rohde fan...

You are right - thank you
I quoted directly from USAToday article but it was wrong. Thought that sounded low but didn't bother to check other sources. Sorry!

Maybe Avatar land will redeem his name in my mind - we'll have to wait and see.
Animal kingdom is my favorite park so I think that tells you what I think of him.

Speaking of avatar there were rumors for a while that avatar would have a presence in Paris. Not necessarily the land but maybe in the studio tour or something like that.

Looks like they're going after control in EuroDisney http://www.usatoday.com/story/money...-disney-increases-stake-euro-disney/97740014/

Bottom line - With this purchase from Kingdom Holding, Disney increases it's stake to 85.7%. Disney also pledged to invest $1.5M Euros in Disneyland Paris. Article has more info on profits, losses, attendance, etc.

Apologies if this has been covered in another thread
In case you do not know what Kingdom Holding is. The man is a Saudi Prince who owns the George V in Paris amongst others. Coca Cola etc
