The Last Trip: An (Eastern) Fantasy Food Adventure-Bonus Feature, Pam & Her Mom Pt 2 Sept 17 the end

What's with that! Slacker!

Well, I'm catching up now. Albeit, it's all on my phone. :faint:

That accelerated quickly.

Well when the airfare dropped 25% and was under $1000 for round trip, plus the winfall, I decided we could go ahead with it.

Very nice!

Much better than the ones where we got almost nothing for our money. Fran is still kicking herself for letting her parents sell the building. She keeps saying she was too honest and should have just lied to them and kept it.

What are the Vegas odds on that

I'm not betting. Besides we have two really solid offers for help to finish, there's not much more....

Look at it this way. They paid you $10 to demolish it.
I'd have done it for free

Well shoot, can you stop by this weekend?

This is an option??
What's your rent like?
Is there a discount for Canadian travelers

That's funny! Dude, it might be a little, uh, weird....

Nice! Hope you'll tell us how your demos went.

I'm getting around to it on the other thread. Next update there will be the opening day of the Festival.

Please. Don't remind me.

And now we're done. Good news: We don't owe. Bad news: our income was in the negative numbers. Explains why the savings account is sagging.

Cha-ching!

And that doesn't include the bonus sale we got coming up in the next update.

So now that you're all caught up, you never commented on which pictures in the intro were created with layers in Photoshop.

At least you can use the sledgehammer to get out your frustrations. My mother did that to her poor Christmas tree last summer...

Yeah, now we just need to find the time to do so.

I'm glad you have some vacations in the works! Always give you something to look forward too!

For now, it's just the band trip to Houston, and that's kind of a "working" trip. The EBPC is still in limbo, but at least it's not canceled for sure.

Some people just think the rules don't apply to them. :rolleyes1

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Good luck!

Thanks! We need it!

:headache: That sucks.

But look at the bright side of things. You make it sound like smashing it with a sledgehammer is a bad thing. That's a great way to take out some frustration!

That's what I hear. Now we just need to find the time!

Lots of good things in the last "update" !

Or at least promising....

Yay for going ahead with panama! that is a cruise that both DH and I really want to do someday!

Well, so far we are not necessarily going ahead with the cruise. We just aren't cancelling it. We have two months and a couple weeks to get our stuff out of the old place.

Looking forward to hearing about your next DL vacation and drinking the wines sound great!

I'm working on the DL trips on the other thread. I've got a few more updates until I get to last weekend.

That's just crap about the Armoire.

I know. I'm sick of people who underestimate the difficulty of moving furniture.

Sadly, with how early the high school bus picks up my son, I am up before the sun for most of the winter. The only problem is, we don't tend to see much of the sunrise from our house!

In Winter you probably have longer nights than in the Caribbean!

(ETA: And, I am usually up before the son, not just the sun, lol.)

I still wish I could have been there. :rotfl:

We would have loved to have you!

Short little IRL update. Details of the weekend to come on the other report, but a few things came out of the weekend. First, we have some believable offers to help us get moved out of the old place! And really there isn't that much left. Second, we're planning a trip to California Wine Country in 2018 and hopefully there will be a group of us in attendance!

To conclude our weekend, not only did Fran meet someone to buy our bookcases Sunday afternoon, but Sunday night we also sold a dining room table set for a couple hundred dollars. Nice tax free money! Hopefully we'll get some more done this week.

Back to the TR!

We arrived at Palo on time and were seated promptly.

Lorenz was our server. I got Prosecco and she got a Mimosa. I guess no pictures. Instead of having a display of the dishes available on order, Palo on the Fantasy has an actual menu.

We started off at the buffet.

We both got our normal choices. My plate.

Fran’s plate.

They didn't have quite as many selections as the Wonder, and what I like best about the Wonder’s version of Palo is the same thing that I prefer about F! at DL vs WDW. It comes out of nowhere to become a buffet. They didn't dedicate a spot to it during building, it's just right in front of the kitchen. Rather than have a menu, the dishes prepared a la minute just sit on the counter top by example, you see exactly what you will be ordering.

One thing I did miss from our Alaskan Cruise last summer was the new selection of Italian cheeses with Honeycomb, as well as the Arancini, and of course Hristo! However, Lorenz was a fantastic server, and he makes a return visit. Fran lamented the loss of the strawberry soup
.
She made up for it by having a chocolate covered strawberry. She argued that she would enjoy it more when she wasn’t so full. I argued that I can’t have dessert before regular food.

After the appetizers, she got an order of Eggs Benedict.

I ordered the strawberry waffle with berries and cream. Which makes no sense given I just argued that I needed real food before dessert!

Then they added the berry syrup, but only to half since Fran wanted regular syrup on her part.

And the cream, not a very big serving of cream!

Then I got the Chicken Parmigiana. I liked the Wonder version better. This one was not pounded nearly as thin as it is on the Wonder. I have also taken to making this dish at home and I’m getting pretty good at it. It’s also a great way to get your frustrations out!

She had me get her a plate of Bresceola, Mozzarella and tomatoes and a sticky bun. Interesting combination!

I asked Lorenzo if he could get me a tiny taste of the Lasagna Bolognese, and he did his best. He told me that the chef said he would not be offended it I couldn't finish it all. And I couldn’t!

I had a chocolate covered strawberry and half a glass of Tiramisu, and was officially done.

After brunch I had to go back to the room and lay down. I had mixology in about half an hour! I ate way too much.

[Continued in Next Post]

[Continued from Previous Post]

When we entered the Mixology room, we made the assumption that it was going to be similar to previous Mixology classes, but not this one! In the past we've sat in our seats and a couple people would go up at a time and make the drinks.

This time the bar was all set up already.

Fran and I ended up lurking in this corner. They brought her a stool to sit on.

The whole group gathered around the bar.

While our instructor looks rather serious here, don't let that fool you. He was quite animated and lots of fun! He was from Jamaica and pretty hilarious.

He did ask for volunteers and for each drink two people made them. There was the left side of the bar (my side) and the right side.

Our 1st drink was the Disney Stingray. I really liked this one, it was fruity and tasty. From the beginning The left side was pouring much more heavy handed than the right side. We made some pretty potent drinks!

Disney Stingray

½ oz Capitan Morgan Rum
½ Oz Midori
Pineapple juice
Cranberry juice
Layered

Our 2nd drink was a mojito. I volunteered for this one.

Strawberry

Blueberry
Lime
Mint leaves
Agave syrup,
muddle (why do I always end up making the drinks that require muddling?)

Then we added Bacardi Limon (I made sure to keep up the heavy handed pouring!)

And a splash of Club soda, then we stirred it.

Handing Fran her drink.

One of the other guests offered to take our picture.

Our 3rd drink was a Kir Royal (oops sorry @pkondz I thought this one was a Bellini until I proofed the chapter!)

The Creme De Cassis (Black currant) came prepoured. I wonder if this was an expensive ingredient.

The mixologists added Prosecco and voila!

Before we moved on to our 4th drink we got a little lesson in spirits and their popularity over time. Before Prohibition Whiskey was the #1 spirit in America, however during prohibition Gin took over that leading spot. He didn’t talk about WWII through the Vietnam War period, but in the 80s Vodka became #1 and it still is.

So our next drink was a French Martini

Combine Absolute vodka and Chambord

Add Pineapple juice, shake and serve

Before we got to our last drink, our bartender wanted to show off his skilz a bit. It seems that he was a champion at balancing bottles on his nose back in Jamaica, so he showed us all about that.

And then he did it with two bottles.

Then it was time for our 5th drink which was a shot.

Coffee flavored Patron had been prepoured

Topped with Baileys

Use a spoon to layer it.

After we took our last shots, we paid our checks and headed out. It was quite the deal for like $20pp not only did we get five interesting drinks, but we got an hour or more of really fun entertainment!

After the class, Fran wanted to do more shopping, and I just wanted to take a power nap. It was around 3:05 when I laid down and she got back around 3:35. She set her alarm for 45 minutes and I had set mine for 50 minutes, so at least I would be able to snooze mine!

Whoa! A wonderful brunch and all that booze! I would have been out for the count until the next morning!

Whoa! A wonderful brunch and all that booze! I would have been out for the count until the next morning!

Being so full from the Brunch really helped to balance the alcohol. Plus they were not regular sized drinks, although with the amount of alcohol my side of the room was putting in them, they could have been full sized! A lot of people weren't finishing their drinks.

Actually you got over here sooner than I had expected!

I'm just full of surprises.

Well when we moved the wine cabinet, that was probably the last of the assets, so now all that's left is liabilities.

Liabilities or libations?

No that's Elinor. I'm the big one that isn't the mouse.

I knew that! I recognized you immediately.

Newbie? Neophyte? Rookie?

Doofus?

Lemme guess, daughter trip?

::yes::

Actually probably no. As I'm sure you drove by to surveil my house when you were here, you noticed that almost no one is ever outside so it's no wonder Naked Jim made his way from the backyard without notice...I do it in my backyard all the time when I go out to the jacuzzi. :teeth:

If I'd had an address on me... then maybe I would have.
Stupid me. Should have scribbled it down.

And I'll have to remember that if I come for a visit.

No. Scratch that.

When I come for a visit.

I tried to warn you. :confused3

Oh, you have no idea what I did, Alison....

You're always judging my food. :p

I'm judgy.

I know. Which is why I question you when you say, "We had two suitcases." I'm thinking "each, right?" Then again I wear fresh undergarments and pants/dresses every day. :rolleyes1

My first solo trip to WDW.
Guess how many suitcases I had?

I love these places where you can make your own waffles fresh at breakfast. You get them while they're still hot and the butter melts on them (especially if you put it in your pocket while the waffle is cooking).

I could never fit an entire waffle maker in my pocket.
I think they frown on that anyway, to be perfectly honest.

There was a collective groan when they made the announcement .

Like... oh, I don't know... if they were to cancel the fireworks at Disney???

We're about to embark on a week long food adventure!

yum!

There’s plenty more on the buffet over there...although I probably couldn't finish them all and ended up letting Fran finish some.

See? I could steal yours!

I think it was spicy noodles with pork and vegetables or something like that, but since there was fried rice and noodles in the same bowl (wow! I let my food touch) Asian stuff was the official name.

Legit.

It sure does....we're having someone over for dinner next weekend and we were talking about what to do for dessert. Maybe I'll do that instead of what we talked about.

When pkondz comes to visit, there's very little he likes more than baked apples.

Probably. OK, thanks Google! Nor only is it Rum, but Coconut Rum.

puking_zpsjgdfy7wc.gif

That's funny, but no she does not zoom through the store. She looks at every. Single. Thing.

 So, not exactly the quickest of experiences.

It's an oval pendant with the DCL logo in the center. Next update there is a shot of me where you can get a good look at it.

Ah! Thanks! Point it out to me if I miss it.

It is beautiful, sets the whole feel of the atrium.

It certainly does. Beautiful.

You're getting ahead of yourself. It's a mindset and a whole lot more. I get to it on the day (which is actually quite a few days away).

Standing by...

Well I'm glad, you didn't die. Spoiler alert: Be prepared it will happen again.

oy

Actually it's not the duds I'm worried about. It's the intolerant folks with an agenda.

Do NOT get me started. Grrrrrrrrr....

Hmmmm.... actually, they should have their own special room in the ship where they can hold meetings and discuss common concerns and thoughts.
A crew member could show them where the door is and tell them to go in whenever they want.

And the door is located on the outside hull of the ship.
Preferably on an upper deck.

Oh please, you are among some of the best dining company I have shared recently.

Awww...

The feeling is very mutual.
Enjoyed the company of all three of you actually. Quite a bit.

I can see that. But you two probably rarely get a quiet evening alone together. For us just about every evening is alone together. After 20 years we have kind of run out of things to talk about which is why we usually have the TV droning on in the background.

Ah! I see. That does make sense.

Besides from what I know about you two, small talk might not be so easy or appealing.

Oh? I assume you mean with others and not between ourselves.
I'm curious. Why do you say that?
(Not saying you're wrong.)

:hyper: What cruise line are you going on?

Oh, brother.
Who the heck knows.
I think she's changed her mind... again.
I give up. I'll wait until the trip's over and I'll let you know what happened when I find out.

Absolut Mandarin, Apple Pucker, Blue Curacao, and Pineapple Juice. It was good!

mmmm.... That does sound good!

It was too late and I was good on alcohol for the night.

I like how you say you were "good" on alcohol.

I know! Where is my personal chef?

A travesty of epic proportions.

Ha! I've got very few compared to some people.

Pretty much. If I didn't I would rather go back to the room and badger Fran to get up and watch whatever movie, than sit and sip coffee in solitude.

Palo Brunch and mixology, pretty much my idea of a perfect sea day on Disney :thumbsup2

Yum yum you two made some great choices for brunch!

Looking at your photos for mixology I thought "that bartender looks familiar" but when I got to the part about balancing I realized, he didn't host our mixology but he did do the rum tasting my dh did later in the week (as I looked back at the photos he took), so now I'm even more sad I didn't do rum as that guy looks like a hoot!

Honestly for $20pp it really is one of the BEST deals on a Disney cruise, isn't it?:cheer2:

Well when the airfare dropped 25% and was under $1000 for round trip, plus the winfall, I decided we could go ahead with it.

It practically sold itself.

Fran is still kicking herself for letting her parents sell the building. She keeps saying she was too honest and should have just lied to them and kept it.

20/20 hindsight

Besides we have two really solid offers for help to finish, there's not much more....

I'd help too...
Hey! I could! Just pay my airfare!

No?

Well shoot, can you stop by this weekend?

See previous comment.

That's funny! Dude, it might be a little, uh, weird....

True. You like to parade around in the nude and I wear the same pair of shorts day in day out for months.

Bad news: our income was in the negative numbers. Explains why the savings account is sagging.

Whoops!

So now that you're all caught up, you never commented on which pictures in the intro were created with layers in Photoshop.

Oh! Forgot.... I'll get back to you on that....

ETA: Nothing jumped out at me. I give up. Which?

First, we have some believable offers to help us get moved out of the old place! And really there isn't that much left.

That's great!

Still wish I could help you guys out though.

Second, we're planning a trip to California Wine Country in 2018 and hopefully there will be a group of us in attendance!

That should be good. A lot of people up here would love to do just that.

To conclude our weekend, not only did Fran meet someone to buy our bookcases Sunday afternoon, but Sunday night we also sold a dining room table set for a couple hundred dollars.

Score!

We started off at the buffet.

Why wouldn't you?
Serious question.

I'll start with those shrimp if you don't mind.

Fran lamented the loss of the strawberry soup

Not surprised. I know how much she likes that.

She made up for it by having a chocolate covered strawberry.

mmmm.... love those.

She argued that she would enjoy it more when she wasn’t so full. I argued that I can’t have dessert before regular food.

I can actually see both sides here.

After the appetizers, she got an order of Eggs Benedict.

That's an option?

To heck with the shrimp!

I ordered the strawberry waffle with berries and cream. Which makes no sense given I just argued that I needed real food before dessert!

:lmao:

I have also taken to making this dish at home and I’m getting pretty good at it.

Good! I love making it.... but the rest of the family is very "meh" about it.
So... I don't do it very often.

It’s also a great way to get your frustrations out!

::yes::

She had me get her a plate of Bresceola, Mozzarella and tomatoes and a sticky bun. Interesting combination!

One of these things is not like the other...

I ate way too much.

I suspect that the majority of passengers say the same thing.

Disney Stingray
½ oz Capitan Morgan Rum

Rum. Of course.

Our 2nd drink was a mojito.

More rum.

Okay, now that is a great shot of you!
Look at that smile!! :)

And a great one of the two of you!

Our 3rd drink was a Kir Royal (oops sorry @pkondz I thought this one was a Bellini until I proofed the chapter!)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say crème de cassis tastes like rum.

:rolleyes1

Before Prohibition Whiskey was the #1 spirit in America, however during prohibition Gin took over that leading spot. He didn’t talk about WWII through the Vietnam War period, but in the 80s Vodka became #1 and it still is.

I wonder why that is? Availability? Hmmm....

So our next drink was a French Martini

Okay, that sounded good.

And then he did it with two bottles.

Get out!

Coffee flavored Patron had been prepoured

There. That's better. I don't like coffee either.

It was quite the deal for like $20pp not only did we get five interesting drinks, but we got an hour or more of really fun entertainment!

That's a very reasonable amount given the fun and the number of drinks.

After the class, Fran wanted to do more shopping,

What?!?!? I'm shocked!

I do like Mixology on the Fantasy more than the Wonder, but Hristo on the Wonder is absolutely the best. Looks like you had a perfect morning.

I'm just full of surprises.

I bet you are!

Liabilities or libations?

I think we can end this discussion...

I knew that! I recognized you immediately.

OK, I just didn't think I was that "little" in fact I thought at that time I was almost grown up.

If I'd had an address on me... then maybe I would have.
Stupid me. Should have scribbled it down.

And I'll have to remember that if I come for a visit.

No. Scratch that.

When I come for a visit.

I'll count on it, and I'll do my best so that our house is clean enough and presentable for a visit and I'll even cook dinner.

Oh, you have no idea what I did, Alison....

Now you have me REALLY curious!

My first solo trip to WDW.
Guess how many suitcases I had?

I believe I remember reading you had just a backpack or something.

I could never fit an entire waffle maker in my pocket.
I think they frown on that anyway, to be perfectly honest.

No just the butter!

Like... oh, I don't know... if they were to cancel the fireworks at Disney???

Yeah kinda like that.

See? I could steal yours!

Fran might try to kill you....

When pkondz comes to visit, there's very little he likes more than baked apples.

I will remember that and program an apple dish for dessert.

 So, not exactly the quickest of experiences.

No, hence the reason that I end up keeping up on the DIS and writing my TRs on the vacation. I need something to do while she is shopping!

Ah! Thanks! Point it out to me if I miss it.

It was in the picture of me handing her the drink at Mixology.

That sounds like a good idea. I realized that we never got to talk about things that are banned on the DIS during your visit. Sounds like we have a lot in common in that area.

Awww...

The feeling is very mutual.
Enjoyed the company of all three of you actually. Quite a bit.

I had a lot of fun with you and Liesa. She also seemed to have quite a bit of fun as well!

Oh? I assume you mean with others and not between ourselves.
I'm curious. Why do you say that?
(Not saying you're wrong.)

"Hi Mr. and Mrs Pkondz, so nice to meet you! I'm a stockbroker and my wife here is a Real Estate Agent, what do you two do for a living?"

<crickets>

I'm sure there are other questions that would come up that might be uncomfortable....

Oh, brother.
Who the heck knows.
I think she's changed her mind... again.
I give up. I'll wait until the trip's over and I'll let you know what happened when I find out.

Well she sounds rather fickle. I like the idea that Fran lets me do whatever I like as long as she doesn't.

mmmm.... That does sound good!

Yes it was....

A travesty of epic proportions.

And it seems that I missed out on a couple of your witty posts! Which is a travesty of epic proportions!

I think we can end this discussion...

end the discussion or there'll be repercussions?

:duck:

OK, I just didn't think I was that "little" in fact I thought at that time I was almost grown up.

Sure. Let's go with that.

I'll count on it, and I'll do my best so that our house is clean enough and presentable for a visit and I'll even cook dinner.

Or I could just take you guys out for dinner.

Now you have me REALLY curious!

It's gonna be a while! It was on the last day.

I believe I remember reading you had just a backpack or something.

Carry on, but... yup.

No just the butter!

They frown on you putting the butter in your pocket but are okay with an entire waffle iron?

Odd.

Fran might try to kill you....

eep!

I will remember that and program an apple dish for dessert.

Or point me in the direction of a good pie place and I'll bring one.

It was in the picture of me handing her the drink at Mixology.

It was? What did you do?
(Whatever it was... it was a good job.)

I realized that we never got to talk about things that are banned on the DIS during your visit. Sounds like we have a lot in common in that area.

Could be. Probably.
Topic for future discussion. :)

"Hi Mr. and Mrs Pkondz, so nice to meet you! I'm a stockbroker and my wife here is a Real Estate Agent, what do you two do for a living?"

<crickets>

Nah. She has a standard answer for that question.
So do I.

I'm sure there are other questions that would come up that might be uncomfortable....

Oh?

Well she sounds rather fickle. I like the idea that Fran lets me do whatever I like as long as she doesn't.

Might be easier... and more dangerous!

And it seems that I missed out on a couple of your witty posts! Which is a travesty of epic proportions!

Or a blessing in disguise!

Nice update!

Beautiful view from your table

This next one looks good, I like fruity drinks.

Disney Stingray
½ oz Capitan Morgan Rum
½ Oz Midori
Pineapple juice
Cranberry juice
Layered

Nice pic of the two of you

I love this one, Chambord is one of the first alcohol drinks I ever had (Legally...). Chambord and 7 up used to be my go-to drink. I have since branched out, LOL.

So our next drink was a French Martini

Combine Absolute vodka and Chambord

Add Pineapple juice, shake and serve

The mixology classes look like fun. We did a Martini tasting on our 2013 cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line. It was fun, but I think it would be more fun to get to watch them being made and maybe make some yourself. These were already made and came out all on a cute little tray.

First, we have some believable offers to help us get moved out of the old place!

That sounds good.

And really there isn't that much left.

Even better.

Second, we're planning a trip to California Wine Country in 2018 and hopefully there will be a group of us in attendance!

Oh, that should be a wonderful trip.

To conclude our weekend, not only did Fran meet someone to buy our bookcases Sunday afternoon, but Sunday night we also sold a dining room table set for a couple hundred dollars.

Result!

Instead of having a display of the dishes available on order, Palo on the Fantasy has an actual menu.

I can see that this is more practical, but I like the other approach better.

They didn't have quite as many selections as the Wonder

That surprises me.

Fran lamented the loss of the strawberry soup.

I had forgotten that this was your first cruise where this was no longer on offer.

She made up for it by having a chocolate covered strawberry. She argued that she would enjoy it more when she wasn’t so full. I argued that I can’t have dessert before regular food.

I could eat chocolate covered strawberries at any time of the day or night and before, during or after the meal.

That looks delicious.

This is a view to behold.

The whole group gathered around the bar.

I think I prefer the other approach.

Disney Stingray
½ oz Capitan Morgan Rum
½ Oz Midori
Pineapple juice
Cranberry juice
Layered

That looks delicious.

It was quite the deal for like $20pp not only did we get five interesting drinks, but we got an hour or more of really fun entertainment!

I agree and for once I would have liked every one of the drinks and every one would have been safe for me.

Corinna

They didn't have quite as many selections as the Wonder, and what I like best about the Wonder’s version of Palo is the same thing that I prefer about F! at DL vs WDW. It comes out of nowhere to become a buffet.
Well, that's an interesting comparison!

Fran lamented the loss of the strawberry soup.
She made up for it by having a chocolate covered strawberry.
No strawberry soup? How did you even get her there?

I asked Lorenzo if he could get me a tiny taste of the Lasagna Bolognese, and he did his best. He told me that the chef said he would not be offended it I couldn't finish it all. And I couldn’t!
It all looks delicious. I'm glad he got you a sample to try.

After brunch I had to go back to the room and lay down. I had mixology in about half an hour! I ate way too much.
At least you have something to soak up the alcohol.

Hmmm... whiskey and rum are typically my top choices.

Vodka is somewhere around "nope, not gonna happen."

There was a bad night in college with cheap vodka.

I've avoided that stuff ever since.

After we took our last shots, we paid our checks and headed out. It was quite the deal for like $20pp not only did we get five interesting drinks, but we got an hour or more of really fun entertainment!
That definitely does seem like a great deal to get some drinks and some entertainment. I would have never considered doing something like this, but having seen your experiences, I think this is something I'd like to try if I ever go on a cruise.

YAY! That sounds like great news. Hope it all works out.

After we took our last shots, we paid our checks and headed out. It was quite the deal for like $20pp not only did we get five interesting drinks, but we got an hour or more of really fun entertainment!

OMG! I love the drink combo's. That would have been such a fun mixology to go to. And such a great deal!

Mixology looks like so much fun. Without having tried those drinks I'm thinking I would love the Disney Stingray. Anything that has rum and is fruity is my kind of drink. :drinking1

Great picture of the two of you at Mixology! We didn't do it on our cruise, on the list for next time!
