Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT Information & Questions

UGH...I have to say I wasn't worried about the construction until I started reading all this :( We are booked late September so I know a ton of things can change before we arrive. It is supposed to be a special surprise trip for our youngest over his birthday in the Pirate rooms....fingers crossed the demolition sites are cleaned up a bit before we get there. We did actually look to see if we could change resorts and there was nothing open that didn't increase the cost of our trip by a lot [we did a free dining deal for that timeframe].....praying for a bit of magic.

Good news is over at that end of the resort you are pretty removed from it all. You'll see it coming/going but otherwise, it won't be a big impact

WEDWDW - I'm inclined to agree that OPR won't be completely demolished. I hope we're both correct. :) :)

I honestly can't believe that they would destroy the totally island-themed area, just to rebuild a new island-themed area. I'm thinking that the Shutters "kitchen" will go back to being an additional CS location (as it was prior to the last refurb and addition of a TS location) and Shutters seating area will be returned as part of the general seating. I'll miss visiting OPR during our next trip in just about 2 weeks, but I've spent so much time there over the years (since 1989), I have many fond memories.

I know they went full bore in to tearing out Barbados but OPR is still standing, as least was as of last week. Leads me to be in the group that thinks they'll leave the structure and rework the inside

I'm thinking very strongly that OPR will just be gutted and redesigned to house Check-in/Concierge and the Food Court and the Merchandise Shop.:)

Completely torn down.
Read updated posts on page one. It will give you ALL info.

I thought I read everything on page one but must of missed it. Thanks for your response. I'm kind of bummed it's going to be torn down, I love OPR!! Hope I will love the new one just as much.

I missed it too and I just read it again to be sure. I read loads about temporary dining options lol

I did read all about the dining options and saw videos of construction. I just missed the part where OPR is being torn down. I read about Barbados being torn down. It's going to be weird to see if it's torn down when we are there in July.

We got 2 different answers while at CBR-complete teardown and then some said it will just be completely "gutted" and used(at least partially) as the new Check-in/Concierge location.:)

I've carefully read "page one" several times. There is no mention of OPR being torn down completely, or gutted. ???????????

Because nobody here knows exactly what their plans are.

The most "common" answer we got when we were down there was that OPR will just be completely "gutted" and "repurposed",at least part of it,as the new Check-in,Concierge,DME stop,Resort Airline Check-in location,etc..

However we did get a "few" responses that it will be completely torn down.

I'm leaning heavily to just a "gutting"-time will tell.:)

Y'all had me worried that I had posted incorrect information in the first few posts relative to Old Port Royale. I didn't think that I had posted it would be completely torn down. I'm with the group that tend to think it will be redone on the inside. The outside theming fits right into the look of the village buildings. But, Disney has not said if it will be demolished, if the interior will be gutted/redone or just what is going to happen.

Okay just came back from a stay June 3rd to the 8th. I'll say wasn't too worried about the construction because Hi my family plans was the parks. Room for sleep. But being June in Orlando means rain so we did have some resort time. We was in Trinidad North building 32 easy walk over to the Tented Food Court(my vent later). Pool was great(still doesn't knock Coronado Springs off my top list) Building 33 had the freestyle COKE machine my new best friend I swear LOL. Now the Food Tent was a major let down I know they was cooking out back during buffet style inside but DISNEY dropped the ball in a major way. Cause when the rain came the menu went to box lunches OMG really Disney. I believe that when staying at the resort your dining plan shouldn't be based on 1 table credit for room services you should be able to use the Quick Service credit as well. I understand the rain but to take it down your food options to box lunches that's not Disney to me. I believe once they are done all updates I would THINK about a return(wife said it's a one & done on her list) but I like to be the fool twice before I write it off....

Things like this are why I've always believed everyone staying at CBR should get the $75.00 Gift Card.

The GC REALLY "makes up" for things like this-JMHO.
And makes me really glad we don't do the dining plan. No trying to figure out how to use credits.
We did try the tent buffet 1 night, to say we did. It was alright but no way would I eat it more than once. No variety.

Preach we ate away more then anytime I've done at a Disney Resort smh.

Funny, we aren't one bit worried about not getting a GC for our August trip. The room rate is too low for us to feel like it is necessary. It's lower than a value room. To me, it's still worth way more than the rooms at the All Stars, even with construction. I mean, if they wanted to give us one we'd take it of course, but I don't feel we are due one. If that makes sense.

But they should have thought out the tent and rain. Surely they realize it does rain in FL in the summer. This can't have been a shock to them.

So help me get pumped about CBR :) What are some of the favorites for those of you who have stayed before? Pools? Something special about the resort? Tips and tricks when it comes to transportation to parks? Staying in a Pirate room so favorite location in that room area?

I concur that was my shock. The GC was a bonus it wasn't in our plans cause we was booked for Poly but one of kids friend dropped out and I wasn't about to cover that bill so they could stay at Poly room rate HECK NO so we downgraded and didn't even think of the GC it wasn't until check in the cast member said both of your rooms get a GC.

So I have to ask....and if I am opening a huge can of worms I am sorry....what is up with the GC?? Was this a promotion or something? Just curious since there seems to be a lot of discussion about them.

Buses was no more then a 15 or 20 minute wait at best. You know the Pirate Room beds are full size? I'm a queen or king bed lover. But you cool with that go with it. I'd pick Trinidad North as my place to stay if I return there in the future.
