Does anyone has issues with WDW wheelchair wheels jamming?

My DH has bad knees. He is ok doing stuff around house, going grocery shopping, etc. Can't do the miles of walking and standing at disney. Last two trips, we rented a wheelchair at disney. A few times the wheels rub again each other and jam. So he is not rolling, but rather being pushed along. I think it have to do with getting more worn chairs where everything sags a bit more. DH weighs about 260. I thought disney's chairs had a limit of 350. I had mentioned buying one, but he doesn't want to deal with it with traveling thru airports and fitting in car. Has anyone had a problem like this?

Any thoughts?

What are the wheels rubbing against? Side of the chair?

If I rented a wheelchair and it stopped working, I'd return it for another one.

the wheel chair at Disney get used a lot and are not in the best shape if he needs one for his trip I would rent on off site and then have it the whole time, ( at the hotel )

I've never used a WDW wheelchair but from looking at them I'd say they aren't in good shape, they weigh too much, and are an inferior wheelchair. I would rent one from off site if I were you. If you're worried about the buses you can always just fold it up and carry it on board like a stroller.

I did. Once we couldn't move the chair at all. But over the course of ten days , it happened several times. It seems if DH leaned to one side a bit, the rubbing would stop. Out of ten days, it happened perhaps a few hours worth,, a few mins here and there. Like I said I think the age of the chairs, everything is sagging. Parts moving where they shouldn't.

I was just looking at Apple mobility, the price is about the same as disney. And then no waiting in line everyday to get one from disney.

I was going suggest using an off-site vendor or buying your own. I know he said he didn't want to deal with buying your own, but they aren't that expensive and they are really easy to deal with.

In the airport, you just wheel up to the gate and they will gate check it.

To get it into the car, mine you just pull up on the seat and it folds in half and you just shove it in.

Has he thought about renting an ECV? They do cost more than a wheelchair, but they are really easy to use.

He's afraid he'll run over someone. We do what we can.

The front wheel will swivel back so the front and back wheel are rubbing. When it happens it won't roll.

This confirms the chairs are not maintained for the individual, the sizing is not right. The back wheel is too close. You should consider an off site rental of a better maintained (hopefully) chair.

Yes, that's what we are going to do. The price is about the same, no waiting every morning to get one, and we'll have it for outside the parks too.

The park WC are not in the best shape, and get abused at times. The worst ones seem to be the ones at the actual rides, that they have some people switch into.
