Hurricane Irma?

Called in and was on hold for 30 minutes, which is what the recording said the wait time was. All things considering, I thought that was extremely reasonable.

Talked to a cast member who you could tell was having a long day, but still in good spirits. They were able to change our room only reservation to January with no problems. I was really expecting to have to lose my deposit since it was so close. I thought the policy was lose deposit within 5 days. I must have read it wrong. Either way, it's slowly working out for the best.

Currently on hold for ticketing (60+ minute wait) to see if I can get refunded for MNSSHP.

Selfish-ish question. If airline issues waiver for changes, can you change just the return flight? (even if its outside the window) One possibility I am considering is trying to add a day or two to our vacation late next week if we come to make up for the lost time hunkering down.

No two storms are the same and anyone that points to previous near misses are just making people complacent for the future one that does. That being said, the closer it gets the better the data. Thats why some of us are agonizing but waiting for more info!

Excellent point. It's not just the near misses that leads to complacency, it's the erroneous perception that because Orlando is inland it is immune to the worst aspects of a hurricane.

I missed that, but whoever said Disney would not house you was incorrect. Disney housed everyone that asked at least, during Matthew. Maybe there were some that didn't ask and it may not have been in some's budget but they didn't just kick guests out. If your personal budget can't handle additional days then that is something to consider. Disney isn't going to house guests at no cost. But they did work with guests best they could to find a solution.

The post is a few pages back. Can't recall the username, but it was a new member. I was going to say something, but had a phone call come in.

I feel that posters need to make sure they are giving factual information on Disney policy...or be quiet.

Thanks AngiTN for mending this travelers fears.

We decided to cancel our 8th-20th stay this morning. The rep tried very hard to get us to reconsider, and also tried to get us to apply the money to a future stay instead of receiving the refund. I declined, obviously, but they're sure trying to hold onto those dollars. Anyway, for those who called and requested a refund: Did the agent say they had to submit your request through a form that another department will process later? The rep herself had no authority to do the canceling and refunding. I got off of the call without a reference number or any kind of reassurance that the refund will take place soon. Any similar experiences today for anyone else? Has anyone received an email confirming their cancelation?

Same experience. No reference number, no assurance that the cancellation would go through (but praying that it will!)

I am. I'm trying to figure out how scared to be, honestly. I can't see a good way of leaving before the storm, so should I be worried about our physical safety, should I be worried about being stranded for days after I'm supposed to be home, or just a few days of rain, wind, possible loss of power? I can deal with inconvenience but this thread is really freaking me out. I have no idea what to think and I don't have the option of postponing my trip now. I know no one knows for sure, I don't wven know what I'm asking really lol

When were you planning on originally leaving? Saturday would be a good time to go.

I left for a couple hours to run errands, a nice break from worrying about my home ... which is sitting a little over 150 yards off the beach .... and come back to so much nonsense.

Just my observation but .... we seem to:

- Have had a few people join these boards in last couple days and do nothing more than bring negativity and really kind of bully others. :confused3

- Have a few others have joined that seem to be defending the board against the negative posts, maybe out of frustration.

- Have folks on the ground with great experience with storms and Disney that are giving great information. :thumbsup2

- We have folks who experienced Disney's way of handling last year that are giving great information. :thumbsup2

But sadly the good information is getting drowned out by the rabble-rousing.

Dreaming probably but what I would love is ....

- This thread locked.

- New thread to speak ONLY to how to negotiate the Disney/Airline etc maze during this time, how to get refunds etc, what to expect at the hotel if you choose to continue your plans and how the Orlando area will handle offsite and other things. Anything else will get deleted or moved to thread below.

- New thread on COMMUNITY where folks who want to argue about the storm path and who is right :rolleyes1 so it doesn't clutter this thread.

- New thread (if the storm causes any disturbance to operations at WDW) that will help folks through their stay too keep updated on all they need (much like we did last year) to make their vacation as positive as possible.

In a time when folks are scared, frustrated, upset ........ and looking for help ........ much of this is of zero help or worth.

End of rant.

Anyone else here now or is everyone planning on coming later?
Live in Orlando - 5 miles from OIA. Other than a shortage of bottled water and some lines at gas stations, it is business as usual. Kids are in school, people at work, folks enjoying the theme parks, etc. Traffic on the roads is normal to slighly congested based upon the removal of tolls. Most people from coastal regions will evacuate to Orlando so that is expected starting tomorrow or Friday. Some schools are announcing closures, though Orange County (Orlando) has not announced anything yet. Coastal schools close tomorrow or Friday. Colleges closing tomorrow. High school football games being moved to Thursday night. UCF football game moved to Friday night (from Saturday). We all will keep watching the models hoping to only see the left side of the storm as the most dangerous part is the northeast quadrant (from 12:00 to 3:00). Everyone planning on coming down should keep an eye on things and be safe. The tracks typically change all the way up until landfall, so there are never any assurances. A 5 mile bobble 4 days before landfall could end up being a 175 mile difference in where it goes.

Don't feel like you're being too paranoid because we are suppose to be there from 9/20-9/27 and I am wondering the same thing:guilty::guilty:

Same here. We are driving from Chicago on Sept 22nd for WDW arrival Sept 23rd. I am paranoid about anything out there in the Atlantic even resembling a cloud :sad2:. I worry about gas shortages. I worry about another storm. I am kind of a wreck.

Latest models do show a bit of a move more towards the coast. They are all still showing a right turn. These update several times a day.

If either the white or light green tracks turns out to be accurate, get ready for Disney to be rebuilding Vero Beach again.

Well pooh. Latest tracks have Irma running up the east coast into North Carolina, where my mom has a house. Looks like I might get to make the 8hr. drive down to NC tomorrow to pack stuff up for her.

With all the posts about refunds and that Disney will refund you the way you originally paid, does this mean that those who paid with their Disney Vacation Account get refunded there? Then get an additional 5% since they discontinued it? Interesting thought

Most likely refunded to a gift card - the additional 5% is a good question. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask.

Yes, you should be able to change only the return of your trip
