Pop Century Room Renovations

Just FYI,
So my friends just checked into POP they are 2 different families one booked standard and one booked preferred. They both requested a refurb room, the preferred view family said they would give up their preferred view to get a refurb room when they called in their request. Well they both ended up in building 4, the PV room asked about going to a refurbed room and it was a hard no, the SV family was offered to be moved but declined it if their friends couldn't be moved. They said that almost everyone at the desk was asking the same thing. So with all this being said, if you didn't book a SV, it appears that they're not letting people downgrade to that. I understand they can't downgrade everyone that wants it but the whole situation seemed really odd.

I think word is getting out how wonderful the new rooms are so more and more people are requesting them. While I understand being disappointed not to be able to 'downgrade' to a refurbished room, I also understand Disney's challenge. If they start moving preferred guests into standard refurbed rooms then guests who chose standard rooms to have the best chance of getting a refurbished room would be disappointed.

I'm guessing Pop is running at capacity or close to capacity with the number of rooms that are out of circulation for refurbished.

It's actually very rare for a resort to downgrade a guest when they ask for it. So this doesn't surprise me.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. I know I've read a couple of reports on this thread of people booking preferred and being able to downgrade to a refurbed room, so I just wanted to let everyone know our experience.

Can someone please confirm for me, rooms starting with 7, 8 and 9 have all been refurbished?

Thanks.

Has there been any talk, speculation or rumours of the main building (specifically food court) being renovated as well? We stayed at ASSp during the Food Court reno in 2013 and it was a drag.

Someone recently mentioned that the main building would be part of overall renovation timeline, I forget who but it was within the last week or so I believe.

Although between work and my FP day approaching Monday my "I believe" is shaky :surfweb:

Just another 3 hours and we'll be headed to Pop! Yesterday we decided we wanted to go down after work today and found a room, but the only one available was standard pool view. So now I have 3 separate one night reservations. The 2nd two nights are standard view. So I called in to put the refurb request on the first night, and the CM I spoke to on the phone actually called Pop's back office (so she said) to tell them I would much rather be downgraded to a standard view if possible for tonight to give us a better chance of not having to move. She said they told her they already knew about our two Sat. and Sun. night reservations and had the request for the refurb room as well. So, fingers crossed. I'm anxiously awaiting a text with our room number...

I vaguely remember someone saying this as well. That a CM had mentioned it to them. I was wondering if I dreamt it or something. Haha. We are planning on going end of August, which is why I'm wondering if there has been any more talk as the timing might be right.

I recall "lobby." Hopefully, it includes dining area.

Am I the only one stalking this thread for any mention of Building 10?

Yes. :rotfl2:

No, but really, I'm watching too. Although I'm really only interested in staying in the 80s/90s, and maybe 50s post-reno. I only want the 70s (and 60s, c'mon reno!) to open up so people stop requesting my favorite area. To increase MY chance of being there. :rotfl:

So, I haven't gotten a text, but I just checked the MDE app and we have a room! Top floor bldg 9. It's directly behind the exact room I requested through Touring Plans. They did downgrade us to standard view as requested so hopefully this means we won't have to switch rooms. If I got downgraded and still have to switch I will not be pleased!
