Future of west coast runDisney

Only reason why I'm not registering for Avengers at this point is I'm all ready coming out the weekend before for the Breeders Cup. There's no way I can swing coming out, going home, and coming back again in two weeks. Plus all the other travel.

Now here's a question: Are they still going to do the CHOC walk with the construction. My guess is yes and my second guess is that's going to upset people.

This news is not at all a surprise after the lengthy delay, but still completely sucks. Especially since I finally might have had a chance to make a Disneyland race weekend work. They're using the word "hiatus," but who knows if they'll ever come back.

I hope this doesn't put increased demand and difficulty for registering on Disney World races. I personally hope they DO NOT put a Challenge in place for doing a certain number of races there in one year. I know it's all about money and they'll get people whichever way they want, but I've never liked how they encourage the "run all the races."

I guess it's time to start looking for other options for destination races.

Chicago??

I know there was some heat between the City of Anaheim and Disney. And there is the construction happening. Will this have an affect on the WDW resort ever considering cancelling their RunDisney events?

WDW and runDisney has always worked well because Disney owns all of the land the races are run on. That’s not the case in Anaheim of course. The WDW marathon is such a destination event I don’t see that going away anytime soon.

I don’t think so. WDW events are very different from Disneyland events. WDW has way more space and their races can be run 100% in property. I think it’s a really different situation.

To be honest I think runDisney will return to Disneyland eventually and it lies in the key difference between ToTs cancellation and Disneyland. Tower of Terror was one of several races on the east coast they could cancel it with minimal impact. Cancelling all the Disneyland races though will have a major impact on runDisney whether they will admit it or not. I don't think cancelling was their first choice and I do think they will be back again in the future.

Interesting question.

Same here. They got better about it, but the first January races I did they kept using "just" or "only" before "the 5K" and "the Half" (the runs I did that year) and it started really peeving me. I can use "just" and "only" for my OWN self, but they don't get to use it about OUR races. There's nothing "just" or "only" about ANY distance when you're talking to other people and not about your own accomplishments...

Just read a different theory that makes a lot of sense. Disney doesn’t want to pay the city of Anaheim for street closures and police presence when they won’t approve the eastern gateway project.

Well THAT would be mature of them. Especially when it's OUR money going to pay for those things. Let's just negatively impact all these runners and walkers to be snotty to the city.

Sarcasm not directed at you, of course. Just at rundisney...

I'm a little bummed too that I don't have an excuse to go to Disneyland at least once a year. There's always a possibility of going on my own, sure, but I guess I'll be enjoying WDW as much as I can in the next year.

I'm sad to hear about the DL races. I did my first DL race weekend this year for Tink to get my C2C. I'm really glad now that I didn't wait.

I have been wondering about the SW races. Does anyone think that they will retheme the Dark Side race to be generic Star Wars? Personally I think they should do a double half marathon weekend at WDW in April and call that the Kessel Run Challenge.

Maybe I can plan a weekend where I go to Disneyland and *gasp* don't have to be up at the crack of dawn and hobble around the parks all day. Hahaha.

True - but getting up for a DL race compared to a WDW rD race was like night and day. For a DL race I got to the corrals by 4:45am but walking down the street form my hotel. At WDW we have to get up even earlier!
