Do you think dogs should be allowed in guests' rooms?

So many whiny adults here...I can't take it. You have 3 options if you don't like this policy 1) Stay at one of the resorts and risk being annoyed by other dogs 2) Stay at another resort whether it's on property or off 3) Stop going to Disney. What is this...day 4 or 5 of the same arguments? How do you deal with changes you don't like in your day to day life? What do you tell your children when a change bothers them? I fully expect major hate for saying this but it's time many of you reevaluate your priorities. Being upset I understand but 4 or 5 days later??! If I rolled my eyes any harder they would end up in the back of my head.

Yet here you are still reading along and posting :sad2:

Until Disney provides more clarity on this "trial" there are going to be guests that are upset. If you don't like the discussions on this thread, you don't have to keep reading along :rolleyes1

I will continue reading because there are some people with legitimate concerns (severe allergies and fear of dogs). I want to see how Disney handles those situations. Beyond that and maybe a few other exceptions I find the complaints borderline disgusting because it shows how entitled people are these days. "I don't like this so they need to do something about it or I'm going to be pissed". Uhhhh okay. That's not how things work.

I came here because I wanted good information on the dog policy and some of the other posters probably feel the same. This is a friendly Disney themed community no? My Disney addicted pet sitter referred me here. People that agree with the policy aren't welcome? Hmmm.

I don't think some of the whiners travel outside of Disney World. They don't understand how silly they actually sound (there are people with REAL problems out there).

Of course there are bigger problems in the world, but this is a message board for discussing Walt Disney World vacations. Given that this poorly executed policy is threatening to impact the vacations of hundreds if not thousands of DISers it is entirely appropriate for it to be discussed here. As I mentioned to the previous poster - you are under no obligation to continue reading and contributing to this thread.

I thought this was a board to help future Disney travelers. I guess I was wrong.

I never said those that support the policy aren't welcome. But I am not the one calling names and saying that the posters on this threads that don't approve of this policy are silly, whiny, sheltered etc.

Is there anything Disney can do/tell you that will make you no longer upset? Besides cancelling the new policy

Absolutely! Apply the industry standards to their policy. As many have pointed out, numerous 4 and 5 star hotels worldwide are pet friendly. Universal resorts are too. However, these policies have clear weight guidelines (25 or 50 pound max) and are also clear that dogs are never to be left unaccompanied in the rooms. Taking steps to make the policy clear, outline the accountabilities of the dog owners should their dogs inconvenience other guests and clarify how situations will be handled when guests are inconvenienced.

But I'm guessing you didn't expect me to have reasonable or rational points of what I'd like Disney to fix/change. Because I am, according to you, a whiny adult that doesn't approve of this policy.

Lol good one. Can’t speak for all but we’ve traveled literally all over the world. Every continent except Antarctica.
Still don’t want dogs in wdw, guess that makes me a whiner.:sad2:
Yeah, we have been stationed overseas and lived in many states. Comes with the territory when you are a military family for 32 years. Nice to be back in my home state of Fl. Nice too to be going back to Wdw. Hoping to get away and relax and get away from everyday life. 10 years cancer free this month and wanting to celebrate....without people’s pets.

If a dog attacks a person at the one of the dog friendly resorts, Disney should be equally liable because they invited the dogs to be there.

She had a crappy lawyer then.

Thankfully neither the law nor most juries would agree with you. The guy injured by the flying hotdog at the baseball game had two jury trials and lost both of them.

Just wanted to say thank you/your family for your service and congratulations on being 10 years cancer free!

Respectfully, Kimpton does not have a weight guideline at all and they are a very successful high end brand. I have stayed in many of their locations across the country (with and without my dog) with only one minor barking issue very quickly resolved. Kimpton also does not have a specific policy as to the time a dog is allowed in the room.

I saw a post earlier about St. Bernards and I know it was probably mentioned in jest. I had to really think though, because in my 40 years I don't think I've ever even seen a St. Bernard (except in Peter Pan), let alone at a hotel.

Kimpton is far superior to the Disney chain in my opinion, and they seem to do fine with their lenient dog policy.

Incorrect. I asked somebody else the same question on this thread earlier today and they said something along the lines of "Nope. I don't want to see dogs. Period." Entitled and whiny.

And that is just as valid of an opinion as mine and yours. No different than those saying "Just accept the fact that there will now be dogs at Disney and change your plans accordingly so that it doesn't affect you."

The one thing we do know is that this is a trial. It could succeed. It could fail. There is absolutely nothing that states that dogs will be welcome forevermore at these 4 resorts. There is nothing to say that it won't be stopped and dogs will never be permitted again (apart from service dogs).

Until such point, we will continue to discuss the potential merits and issues. And eventually we will discuss the actual experiences. Hopefully, most people can continue to do so without name calling and insults.

Yes I was actually going to edit my comment (though I probably won't it's not all that important really to the thread) to say that it was actually a guy not a girl. It happened in something like 2009 and it's been a few years I *think* since much information has come out about it my memory was a little fuzzy on the gender. I do believe though it's gone back and forth with the lawsuit with re-trial stuff so I'm not sure if there's really a resolution at this point other than at this time there hasn't been a settlement lol (bringing it back to what the topic was at the time).

Opinions don't change the facts though.

I'm not telling you to accept the changes because I think you should I'm telling you because as of right now there will be dogs in 4 resorts for the next year. That's a fact. And because Disney is not a necessity of life you get to choose what you do with that fact whether it means going or not going. Being upset doesn't change it. Nobody here can change it.

I was not aware of the chain. I was referencing the policies of the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton etc. If that policy works for Kimpton that is great, but it is definitely not the industry standard. Personally, my biggest issue is with allowing the dogs to be unaccompanied in the rooms for upwards of 7 hours. There are absolutely guests that will take advantage of this and I cannot comprehend how it will be enforced. It will also inevitably cause an inconvenience and given that Disney transportation can take 60-90 minutes to get back to a resort I just see it as a potential disaster. Will it happen with every pet owner staying? Absolutely not. But it is enough to concern me. I don't want the policy to succeed in it's current state.

No, it isn't a fact. As this is a trial Disney can change it and I think the past few days have shown that. There are numerous reports of inconsistencies from "the dogs will be housed only in certain categories/rooms" to "there will be canine and non-canine rooms" to "dogs can be accommodated in any room category" etc etc. And Disney can choose to have the trial end before the year is up. We're going to continue to have opposing opinions on this.

It is a fact as of right now. As in 8:30 pm Eastern time. Anybody who is making a resort reservation for the next year should expect that there might be dogs at these resorts. I don't think it would be smart to just hope it fails before the year is up or people are going to be disappointed.

I really can not see people bringing their large pets on the bus from the airport and I agree it would be a real pain for both dog people and non dog people with allergies and phobias. Personally, I wouldn't do that to my dog and wouldn't do it to other guests either. I don't take Magical Express ever though (not a real fan of the Disney busses).

Also don't think dogs are going to take over the resorts and busses like some people are envisioning. I saw one dog (a Pug mix) at Universal last time during an entire 7 day stay.

My guess is there won't be a lot of larger breeds either because it's harder to travel with a large dog than one that travels in your lap.

At this point, I'd be more concerned about snakes and alligators than a rogue dog.

Some of the posts do sound whiny in my opinion but it's also hard to hear a person through text. :)
