Pop Century Room Renovations

My husband is somewhat of a light sleeper, so I was hoping to avoid one layer of noise by not having people above us.
That's my strategy as well. I have a terrible time sleeping unless it's with the noise of a fan so being on the top floor helps some because I don't have to hear people walking upstairs.

There are about 20 executive type folks walking around the resort right now looking at things. I have run into them several times this morning. Once was at the soccer field display that's in the middle of the resort and I caught some of that conversation. It sounded like they are looking ATM removing it. I could be wrong but the bits and pieces I caught suggested that. One of them, at one point, said 'all of it?' And another answered 'all of it'. They are now at the computer pool checking it out.

Could be some more changes coming.

Are you talking about the foosball area? I hope they don’t get rid of that! I love that area it’s so cool!

Yes, that area. I could be totally wrong about it because I only heard bits and pieces of the conversations so I wouldn't worry just yet.

It could have also meant the opposite, that someone wants the whole thing replaced due to age or fading and someone said “All of it?”. I also think it’s a cool way to liven up the one courtyard area without a pool and would hope they would keep something there of interest.

The life size foosball is too cool to replace. I can’t think of anything cooler from the 70’s to replace it with.

Well I’m here at Pop!

Got a refurbished room! I got Building 10! They gave me the same new room (standard) for all 16 nights of our stay!

I love the room. It feels so clean and organized. I’m not sure how clean the floor is because I brought cheap slippers with us. I plan to just throw them away and not bring them back home.

I also wiped all the light switches, handles, and bath fixtures with Clorox wipes.

At first, my younger daughter (tween) wasn’t as happy with my surprise of a refurbished room. She’s very sentimental and expected the old rooms. I guess it didn’t feel like Pop to her. But once we opened the Murphy bed and she saw Pluto she liked that.

I LOVE the storage in the bathroom. All our toiletries etc fit great. I would have liked a bit more storage IN the shower for shampoos and shavers etc but I can’t complain.

I took a couple of pics of how we laid out our stuff in bathroom and on dresser etc.

We have not unpacked clothes yet so I don’t know how that storage works for us yet.

Also, they changed the Housekeeping Offer again. Now it’s Take it or Leave it.

You either decline housekeeping for your entire (stay minus checkout day) or you get your room serviced every day.

We opted out and got our $150 gift card email soon after we were in our room.

We are very neat and I hate clutter so I don’t feel it’s an issue for us to not have housekeeping.

We all slept in today. We don’t do the parks on weekends so we are heading out to just relax and enjoy our day soon.

I’ll see if I can find out anything about Building 6 and the rest of Building 10, etc while I’m here.

I'm glad you're loving your room!

And I have to say, it is awesome you are so organized! It amazes me, I wish I could get organized - at home and on vacation! I know it would make my life easier...

You simply put your trash outside your room and its picked up. As for the towels and toiletries you just go to the front desk and ask for them and they will give them to you.
I had read somewhere (possibly on the DIS) that even if you opt out of mousekeeping but call for new towels/toiletries, they will drop them off in your room (no need to go to the front desk). Is that not true?

Stayed here on Halloween night before moving over to AoA for a week. I couldn't have had lower expectations...and boy, were we pleasantly surprised! We were in the 90s and just loved the murphy bed and modern room to design. The room had such a nice feel to it. Also, my 7yo loved the theming outside (which was nice, because when he got up at 5:50am on our first morning, he and I were able to kill a few hours walking around.

Only negative - while I was out of the room my wife said she could easily and clearly hear the people in the next room, speaking in what seemed like a normal volume level.

For those opting-out of housekeeping, is this only offered at the front desk?

How are you replenishing towels, toiletries and removing trash?
I'm wondering something similar, which is what do people do with their used towels? A heap of wet towels will get moldy and gross if they're left in a corner of the room for days. Does housekeeping at least come to collect used towels?

I hope they find a better system. Not very pleasant to have to walk down trash lined walkways. And attracts critters.
I take my garbage by the ice machine or down to the main level when you leave the elevator. There are large trash cans there. But we just have the small bathroom garbage.

We don’t eat in our room so we don’t have food garbage. But I see people leave their pizza boxes and leftover food on trays outside their doors and it’s gross. But I think they do that whether they have housekeeping or not.

So we will be here a week tomorrow. So far so good.

Someone came in and made up our bed by accident one day. They haven’t since.

I was a little worried about not having housekeeping but no issues so far.

I do miss them coming in and doing the towels but they leave them in a big bag in the room and we just hang them up ourselves.

I wouldn’t mind a change of sheets, but we shower at night so we get in bed clean. Lol.

Someone asked about the toiletries they provide. I haven’t used their shampoo but I hate their conditioner. It doesn’t detangle my hair (and I have fine, straight hair). It awful. I can basically use any conditioner except this one for some reason.

I also wish they had better water pressure. Otherwise no complaints.

So...does anyone know, if you wanted some new sheets that you would change yourself (if you opted out of mousekeeping, obviously), would Disney give them to you like they do with new towel requests?

I left ours outside our door in the large blue plastic bag they delivered our clean towels in. I was surprised they didn’t take the dirty towels when they delivered the clean ones. I don’t know what I would have done if they didn’t give me that bag.

Also, the doors to the rooms are in an alcove in the walkway outside so leaving the items outside doesn’t interfere with the walkway.

I’m pretty sure they will give you anything you request that a housekeeper would normally provide.
