The walking dead amc #2

Didn't they tell us last week that this week we'd meet someone new or something?
Also I find that many things that are meant to be OMG moments are very lack luster.
I'm not emotional at all about Carl. Not to say I don't like him I just didn't feel like him showing his bite was played in a very dramatic fashion that would have made me more emotional.

Did they show it or even hint at it? I totally missed that. I'm watching the Talking Dead right now and Yvette Nicole Brown said to rewatch the episode and the fact Carl was bit was in there. She said that when Negan asked Carl do you really want to do he said something along the lines of I'm already dying, so guess he was bit at that point. Scott Gimple hinted that that isn't the last we see of Carl, I guess he'll continue to die in the next episode... 2 months from now!

In last week's episode we saw Carl and Siddiq killing walkers, so I guess I just assumed that was when he was bit. He was in very close proximity to the walkers and killing them up close. I thought it was clear that is how he got bit, even though they did not show us Carl getting bit. We can just assume that is when it happened. He just didn't tell anybody. I think Yvette meant that Carl was saying that he was bit and was waiting to die. He knew at that point that he was living on borrowed time and had nothing to lose, so that is why he cryptically said that to Negan.

Yes, he will die in the mid season premier. He is bit, but at this point still alive.

I don't think they said we would meet someone new. They said it would be a very shocking episode. I hate when Gimple says that, because he usually cannot live up to the hype it causes.

I think the OMG part was because Carl is such an important character in the comic people thought they wouldn't kill him off. I'm guessing he's looking at doing other things.

For those that read the comics, has Carl died or did the show go rouge on this?

I thought he was still alive in the comics, but I'm not sure. I think Chandler may have wanted to do other things. I had heard he is enrolled in college. I wonder if he decided to leave so they had to write him out.

Also, I thought they had hinted in the past that Carl was the most important character on the show and it was his story, not Ricks.

On The Talking Dead they said this deviates a lot from the comics at this point.
Hoping that means it will for Negan as well because from what a friend said in the comics Negan and Rick sorta become buddies.

Yes, Carl is still very much alive in the comics. So this is a huge deviation. They should have just given him some massive facial injury and brought in another actor. Or aged baby whatshername significantly so she'd be about 10 so she could replace Carl's role.

And someone above let the BIG cat out of the bag that we have been trying not to let out all this time....though it's not really buddies but......

I had a hunch that Carl got bit while out with Siddiq killing walkers. Sad to see Alexandria burn as they had nice, functional homes. Guess hilltop is going to get a bit more crowded.

Nice to see Maggie kill a savior. I’m sure it showed a few of them that she’s not afraid to kill.

Still no answer about the helicopter. :headache:

What was the point if Aaron and Enid going to Oceanside? Their leader appears dead now. Any speculation on this?

Sorry figured comic info was not off limits especially since they tend to speak of it on Talking Dead and the show seems to vary.

No different than saying Carl is still alive in the comics in my opinion. I knew both things just from Googling it last year. It’s outside there.

I agree it's not really a big deal to talk about Negan and Rick story line. The comics are written and out there for anyone to find. Plus it's all over the internet. Also, they don't follow the comics exactly anyway.

I thought it was decided (more or less) that since we never know what or what not they may take from the comics, we leave that discussion out. Too unpredictable on what they may follow.

I was 'meh' about Carl. While I suppose a part of my is surprised they are going that route, I'm not that attached to him. Now if it was Carol, or Darryl, or Maggie, that would have been huge!

As for Aaron and Enid, I think they were heading back to Oceanside to return guns and stopped at the distillery to bring them a thank you gift. They did tell them they would come back and return them. I think Enid jumped the gun there, when in fact it could have been easily sorted out after Aaron was hit.

Thinking about them in the sewer, at least they got people out. Did they bring the weapons down there? Or did they leave them in the vehicles for Negan and his goons to reclaim? Judith seems to be growing again. I read on the TD that she views Daryl as her uncle, cute. I'm glad that they brought Dwight with them. Hopefully he survives a bit longer. I'd really like to see him turn a corner, and perhaps find Sherry- still alive. I was glad to see Daryl take his vest back though.

Ok if comics are off limits then people should not bring it up at all.
No questions of "is this part in the comic".
I was not the first to bring it up and I haven't even read them so I was only going on what a friend mentioned to me the other day when I said I hope Negan is put in his place by the end of this season.
Judging by the way things are going I still certainly don't think they will get along so I don't think they will stay true to comics.

It was nice to see Eugene do something for someone else for a change. I thought the scene with him, Gabe and the doctor was pretty funny when they thought Eugene actually killed a guard but in fact gave him something to have diarrhea. I wish Eugene would just get up and leave and go back to Rick's group, but not sure he can at this point. I think he will probably have to do something pretty heroic to get back in their good graces.

As far as discussing the comics, I asked about Carl being dead in the comics too just to see if they are going with the comics for this storyline. Carl is dead on the show, there is no spoiler to know he is alive in the comics.

Did they ever say what Eugene did to rid the saviors complex of the walkers? They just said they got out due to Eugene, but I must have missed what he did to get everyone out. There were a ton of walkers surrounding the Saviors building and at the end of last episode Eugene slugged down some wine and cried.

I am fine discussing comics, and spoilers. Someone up thread mentioned a potential Carl death days ago. It's all just speculation anyway, who cares if it comes from the comics, something you read on the internet, or if it's something you thought of off the top of your head. We just discuss and hash out possibilities and speculate.

What was the deal with Aaron and Enid? I didn't follow that part at all.

Aaron said to Enid at the beginning of the episode that they "needed" Oceanside and they had to convince them to join forces with the rest of the groups. I think this is because now that the majority of the fighters from the Kingdom are dead, the group no longer has the numbers to defeat the Saviors. They need another group to join up with them, so they've pinpointed Oceanside for this. Its also why Enid said they should return the guns - as a peace offering/make it right type of thing. But Aaron said no since they still need the guns, which I think is why they brought the truck from the distillery there. As a "gift" or offering to convince Oceanside to help them. I am assuming that the distillery truck and the car Aaron and Enid were in were parked near Oceanside waiting to come across someone from Oceanside, so what I don't understand is why Enid hauled off and shot that woman when they were fully expecting to see that group at some point.

I think the OMG part was because Carl is such an important character in the comic people thought they wouldn't kill him off. I'm guessing he's looking at doing other things.
I agree. And I think killing Carl is almost like killing Rick or Michonne, because know what a significant toll that will take on them. It will either light a bigger fire under Rick or knock him down. Just when they are so close to defeating the saviors and having some semblance of normalcy, they lose Carl. So it's an interesting twist IMO.

I thought he was still alive in the comics, but I'm not sure. I think Chandler may have wanted to do other things. I had heard he is enrolled in college. I wonder if he decided to leave so they had to write him out.
I've heard this too. And I have to think some part of it is just the aging out of the actor. I forgot how old Carl is supposed to be in the show, but Chandler Riggs has clearly aged a lot. And this whole half of the season was meant to be over the course of a day or two, so the timeline is moving at a snail's pace.

I thought it was decided (more or less) that since we never know what or what not they may take from the comics, we leave that discussion out. Too unpredictable on what they may follow.

I think the regulars on this thread have agreed as courtesy to use the "spoiler" function to discuss comics. But there will always be new people or casual posters on this thread who don't know this. If there's going to be a definitive rule on this, it should be in the first post by whoever started the thread.
