DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

The kid spent the night here last night so we went out to breakfast this morning. Good meal, nice time.
They are a bit more fun as adults at times aren't they.
Same to you and your family. Tough to not have your daughter there, it is too bad we can't temporally transport them to about 5 or 6 for the holidays. And I do mean temporarily, I don't want to go though all that again.
Thanks and yes "temporarily" is key here - Christmas, Star Wars movies & WDW to see the looks on their little faces
Learned long ago that my money always belongs to someone else. Government, wife, kid...
Hear that, don't forget the Mouse .................
Makers sounds great. Going to the mall sounds like torture. Time to start a new tradition - get drunk at a nearby sports bar.
I think the sports bars are worse than the mall......... Good luck with the family challenges this weekend

Well guys, I'm now officially unemployed and probably the happiest I've been in a long while.

I'm calling it...I'm done for the year and beginning next year, I'll decide whether I'll take another thankless IT job or if I'll do the bus driver at Disney thing.

I can't think of any clever quips about the last one gets except...
Last one gets the evil queen and you know she has magic mirrors EVERYWHERE!
(okay, jury's still out on if that's at all clever)

CJ, if you land something with the cruise industry, let me know, I can always try port Canaveral...lot of cruises there and including Disney! In the mean time, I'm just enjoying (already) not working and spending time with the family.

Glad you are happy about it, I'm starting to feel that way. Not sure about the cruise industry but if I do, I'ill let you know. Not sure what my next steps are but only if it is a dream job, I may go back into fundraising but other than that, something else will do.

Combination of my last name (Doc Holliday -- Doc Soliday) and when I was stationed at Homestead AFB, I was playing softball a LOT. Always banging myself up and carried a first aid bag in my bat bag for me and teammates.

That is a cool history.

Happy Thursday. Survived 2 Christmas today at my parents and then my aunt. Back home with a couple days to recover before double outlaws Sunday & Monday, because ruining just one day isn't enough.

Good luck, light the retraction beacon if you need to. Hall tail to the bourbon bar and we will meet you there.

Or, if you drink enough alcohol, you won't feel any pain. Happy to help. ::yes::

I knew I could count on you.

Thanks and yes "temporarily" is key here - Christmas, Star Wars movies & WDW to see the looks on their little faces

My kid's first character meet was Minnie, first attraction was Jungle cruise. Need to find those pics.

Well, those may or may not be part of my contest in my PTR/TR (they are), so I'll PM you if you want.

I've done a pretty good job of saving and investing over the years, so I'm giving serious thought to selling the house and other things of value and retiring or semi-retiring to central FL (most of my family is there). Getting a bus driver or some other not-so-difficult/not-so-high-paying job at Disney just to keep from tapping the nest egg too much and to get Disney perks. If I get a FL resident AP, then I can indulge my Disney love more often and just backpack food in to conserve finances.
:lmao:

Don't worry about the FP. I ask as it is a chance to live WDW vicariously thru your trip. 3 more months and i can make mine.

As for retiring in WDW, that is still my dream. Ultimately, i would like to have a beach condo and condo near WDW and be able to decide where i would be on any given day. I doubt I'll have the money for both and not work though.

I think the sports bars are worse than the mall......... Good luck with the family challenges this weekend

You might lose a man card for that - malls over sports bars? C'mon Man!! :lmao:

Our mall here has been hemorrhaging for years, with the biggest one being Sears. The Macy's store is rumored to be out. They are building a new outdoor mall on my side of town, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Still, I'll pick sitting and drinking as opposed to mall crowds.

Good luck, light the retraction beacon if you need to. Hall tail to the bourbon bar and we will meet you there.

I knew I could count on you.

.

Yup. Alcohol - can be the source and solution of most problems.

I'd gladly fly you in and buy you a round of Pappy van Vinkle if it meant escaping the outlaws. Thanks though.

All my life I've wondered something, and now's my chance to find out. I'm going to find the answer to a question that's puzzled the world for centuries. Does Santa Claus sleep with his whiskers outside or in?

Always sleep with them out. Cold air makes them grow.

Well, I would hope OUTSIDE....inside your mouth would just be nasty....unless of course, you're getting the stuff you saved after the last meal.
:lmao:

This is for you Dan...
Sitting here this morning drinking my tea and thinking of the poor sods who have to go to work today.

If you're one of those poor sods, sorry. I'm enjoying my first day of freedom.
<Thinks of Braveheart and resists the urge to scream FREEDOM!!! so as not to wake up DW & DD>

Taking the dog to the vet and then going to the unemployment office.

Happy Friday. Still cold here. Go figure thr shortest day of thr year is during my time off. Or, does it not work that way? :lmao:

Wouldn't call freedom with going to the vet. But it's a good start.

Freedom to spend more money! ;)
Actually, I planned it for today because I knew yesterday would be my final day, so doing it when I have "free" time. Is that better? ;)

So, what do I do as a loving husband? YUP!!! I bought her an Elf on the Shelf. But, it didn't stop there. I used the dds and staged a picture with the elf. And of course, wrapped the elf with elf wrapping paper. I printed off some pictures online and the kids are hiding them now throughout our house. Oh yeah, I'm in trouble - but it's going to be fun.

Well, it's been great talking to you, Norm. Good luck, we're all counting on you.

Woo hoo! Fast passes are done. Didn't get FOP, so may just have to rope drop that like everyone else (or just not do it...see what DW wants to do).

No FOP? Crud. Hope you're fast!

Morning all...
Been AWOL again; likely to be so some more...
Surviving December is always a bit of a struggle for me.

will try to keep up, but if I don't get a chance later on, then may all of you enjoy the holidays and find peace in your world.

Merry Christmas, Rob. Hang in there, and enjoy your family.

I am not a fan of the little Elf either but sadly DW got me sucked into it a few years ago. I grudgingly play along for the kid's sake, but nights when I am the "helper" the Elf gets into much less trouble. I think the original story is cute and having the Elf move locations every night is OK, but I think it's been taken to excess with some of the elaborate set ups and pranks I've seen. The problem is the moms and kids look at it all on FB and social media, then they expect their Elf to be just as entertaining.

Thankfully, my wife agrees with me--the elf is just plain creepy. Like Poltergeist level.

Welcome to the club guys. Not to rub it in but I am enjoying the he11 out of not having people panic over checks that haven't come in. The more I think about it, I just might be done. After the DDC, I might look for a part time thing doing something that would be interesting. Perks would be a big factor. Cruise industry is big down here, Hmmm.

Sounds like the future is becoming more clear. I like it.

Evening chaps from a drizzly London. Packed, kids are bed but way too excited for kids that have to be up in 9hrs. DS turned 7 today, so in laws and my mum & her partner came over for Fish & Chips. Looking forward to it gittin' my Dis fix. Photos I'll try and stick up on FB. Have great day fellas.

So far, it looks like you guys are having a great time. Merry Christmas!

I'm not a doctor but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night and I am pretty sure at least one rib is broken. How do I know? While trying to sleep, I turned (skip if you are squeamish)...

there was a creak in my ribcage. A few years ago I broke about 3 of them on the other side and it was the same noise and feeling. Back then, I got X-rays, saw a doctor and they said, "Yea, we are pretty sure you broke a few ribs. Nothing we can do, just suck it up." I can deal with it but it may constrain the attractions I want to ride in 2 weeks. No R&R, No Space...

Thank you for indulging my medical update, now I'm going to try to sleep again.

Oh man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal quickly.

While the house was used for all the exterior shots,
the interior shots were done on a soundstage (as the real interior was too small. Think lights, cameras, crew...)
Just to the left of the house, in the shot above, you can see the actual shed that the "bad guys" crawled over (it's been refurbished, however)
Across the street is a museum with costumes and props from the movie and a gift shop.
Worth a stop.

Very cool! I'm looking forward to watching the movie again on the 24th.

Dang! Where’s that from?

It’s a cross to bear mate, worrying about everyone else, but you get used to it after a while. Congrats on the step change.

Evening boys from the Paris bureau. No heavy crowds today or yesterday so we got all our rides done with the paper FP and the hotel one in both parks. So the rest of today and tomorrow is just doing the Xmas stuff and soaking up the atmosphere. Just having a cheeky makers mark in the bar.

As it’s Friday, I know Docs called but last one with me in the Seqouia Lodge Bar (where I am now) has to take Mrs Christmas home. And let me tell ya, she’s the only one allowed to empty Santa’s sack.
Have a great Friday fellas and enjoy your last day at work.
DLP out.

And I'm on the countdown...just a few more hours until my Christmas break. Hard to focus on any real work. Just called DW to see if she & the girls want to go out to lunch, seeing it's the Friday before Christmas and they only have half day of school. I will crawl back to the office this afternoon to punch my final couple hours...until January 2nd, but let's not put a damper on it.

I can't think of any clever quips about the last one gets except...

That works for me. As Norm mentioned, I just hope it's the trick mirrors that make everything look bigger! :rotfl2:

Hey, then you can give random advice that may or may not be accurate!

My kid's first character meet was Minnie, first attraction was Jungle cruise. Need to find those pics.
I have picture of the moment my youngest DD saw the castle for the first time. Very cute.

Our mall here has been hemorrhaging for years, with the biggest one being Sears.
Sears Canada just shut down entirely, across the country. Not good fortunes for that company.

And let me tell ya, she’s the only one allowed to empty Santa’s sack.
Well...that doesn't sound like much fun. Does she at least like to lick candy canes?

Only if you been a very good boy. Enjoy your lunch with the Nippers

I'm all in.

No, rub some Bacon on it...

Too funny.

All my life I've wondered something, and now's my chance to find out. I'm going to find the answer to a question that's puzzled the world for centuries. Does Santa Claus sleep with his whiskers outside or in?

Always sleep with them out. Cold air makes them grow.

Saw that last night, one of my favorites.

Half day today and then not back until January 8th. Given another day of very cold temps I really wish we were headed to Florida tomorrow.

Come on down (we need your money).

Thankfully, my wife agrees with me--the elf is just plain creepy. Like Poltergeist level.

I would have thought you would be all in with the elf, think about the humorous possibilities. Luckily it wasn't a big deal when mine was growing up.

Sounds like the future is becoming more clear. I like it.

I really think it is, thanks.

Oh man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal quickly.

Thanks. It isn't like I was shot by an arrow carrying a message from Herbert. I'm getting better.

After I stop at Norm's bourbon bar, I'll be there.

So true. I was really into photography back then and used black and white film a lot. The first couple of pictures including the Minnie meet and getting on the Jungle Cruise were B/W as I finished the roll.

And if I don't get a chance to say so before the big day...
