*** The Official August 2018 Thread*** - let's have some fun....

Booked our flights earlier this week for our August 15-29 trip, staying @ Pop. I know its still far away but its finally starting to feel "real". Starting to plan out or TS meals and think about things we want to do on our off days. Hoping to get to MNSSHP on our last night (fingers crossed). Not buying tickets until we get there probably, last time we went it rained most of the night, we still had a great time but I felt it was less worth it because of the rain. Does anyone have any insight on the weather during that time?

I will add, there is always at least the threat of a hurricane or tropical storm too, but don’t let it get to you. We had one threaten in 2015, but it did not hit Orlando at all. I was so worried it would ruin things, but nada. You are going for two weeks so you will probably see a mix of both mid-afternoon showers and mostly heat, heat, heat. But the pools and waterparks feel amazing. Take midday breaks from the parks, really, you will thank me for that tip.

Ohh yay. I just now came across this thread. I'm going Aug 18-25 and staying at Pop. Eventually, I want to be part of a Memory Maker group. So, if you're interested, let me know!!

I might be interested, big might though. I would need references if you have done this before. I was part of a group in 2015 that initially got burnt by someone that pocketed our $$. We got it back through Pay Pal, and some of us regrouped again, but...

Any thought about starting a spin off Facebook group for August? We had one in 2015 that blended into a 2016 group, it was so fun and a perfect way to share info more fluidly, share pictures, etc.

Speaking of threat of hurricane or tropical storm, do any of you pack for “just in case”? If so, what do you bring? Inquiring minds want to know :)

Hurricane preparedness: Extra ponchos? Lol, we spent a couple of rainy afternoon breaks away from the parks watching the Phineas and Ferb end of summer marathon and napping a bit. :lmao:

You could count me in for a spinoff facebook group. I have run Memory Maker shares the past two summers, and ran a separate facebook group to organize them. While we did all of the memory maker share stuff there, we also shared pictures, and other stuff. The facebook group was fun in and of it's self.

What is a memory maker group?

Memory Maker is what Disney calls the Photopass system now basically. You purchase the Memory Maker, and then have your pictures taken by Photopass Photographers (as well as on ride photos, character meet and greets, and photos at some dining locations) and after your trip, you can then download all of the pictures.

A share group is a group of people whom are all visiting Disney World around the same time, and whom all agree to split the cost of the Memory Maker (not an inexpensive purchase). They all link up their MDE accounts through Friends and Family. One member is the leader, and that person collects everyone's share of the price, then buys the Memory Maker. At the end of everyone's trips, the lead arranges for everyone to download their photos.

Of course, you have to be able to trust your lead to not rip you off, and to handle any issues that may arise so that everyone is able to get their pictures, but it is a great way to get your photos, and pay perhaps $30 or $40 instead of $160 (or what ever the current price of Memory Maker is).

Nope, no extra packing here. Tropical Storms I wouldn't be all that concerned with. Hurricanes usually don't pose much of a threat to Central Florida, they are more of a concern for coastal areas. In the event that one is going to have a significant impact on Central Florida, it won't come as a surprise, there will be plenty of news coverage, and warnings ahead of time, which should afford anyone staying in the area all the opportunity needed to grab what ever supplies would be necessary.

We have vacationed at Disney 10 times now, all during Hurricane season. Only one of those 10 trips was impacted by a storm, and it wasn't big enough to close down the parks. It did make for a breezy, cool, wet day in MK, which for us NY'ers was wonderful, with temperatures right around 80, we were absolutely comfortable, and the lines for almost everything were short short short. We honestly had a great day!

Thanks for your reply! Just want to make sure I am as prepared as possible since we will be staying 2 weeks. As for wet, rainy weather...we are prepared coming from Oregon

Let’s do this! Disboards August 2018 - it’s a great way to share experiences, pictures etc. I don’t know that I have ever set up a group on Facebook, so if someone wants to get it going I’d love to join! :surfweb:

years ago I know Disers used to wear LGMH to be able to identify each other do they do anything now , as I know the LGMH line of paint is no more.

I haven't seen any in a long time in the parks. I have a sunshade for the car window that has a LGMH on it. I also see a fair number of people with the tie dye shirts that have mickey heads on them, and would wager a bet that all of them got the idea from the DIS. I met a group of people last year with such shirts (we also had similar shirts) and whilst talking to them, it came out that we all got the idea here.

No problem, happy to help. We stay 2 weeks every summer, always in August, toward the end of the month. Truth is, even the rain usually doesn't have much of an impact on our trips. There have been perhaps 2 years out of the 10 we have visited where the rain was a bit out of hand, and ended a few days pretty short. Those were the odd occasions where the lightning was very intense all evening, or it was just raining so hard that there was no way to not be miserable in it. There was one trip in particular where I think we had like 3 or 4 evenings where it rained that hard for that long, and we wound up calling it a night early. Even then, to be honest, the rain, and having to go back to the hotel early, didn't ruin the trip for us by any means.

So, I would say, make sure you have rain ponchos if you are the type to wear them. Make sure you have at least 2 pairs of shoes, not only to give your feet a bit of variety if one pair starts to bother them, but also to give yourself an option if one pair winds up soaking wet. An extra pair of socks is not a bad thing to carry into the parks with you. Ziploc bags are great for keeping electronics, and wallets dry. That really is the bulk of what I do to prepare for bad weather. There are plenty of places nearby where you can buy supplies. There is a Wal Mart perhaps 10 minutes or so from Disney property. There is also a gas station / convenience store just across the road from Disney Springs, so if you are on property without a car, you could bus there, and walk over. Plenty of places nearby where you could pick up anything you might need to ride out a storm.

I put in my request to join too. Although I will admit I do Facebook very infrequent. I rarely post and feel like everyone is judging you. I am in a few private cloth diaper groups and do participate in those. I enjoy the dis much more because I feel like a community of like minded, kind, welcoming people.

Tomh, Sorry to show my ignorance, but what Tie dye shirts? is this something I can make?
