To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

Hope you get everything worked out and find that Rosalina.

I have had some interesting workouts. Sunday I bailed on Hot Chocolate 15k. It was super nasty. I could have been ok with cold and wind, but with the constant rain it was a nope. Went for a run in the afternoon though. I wanted my miles. Here I had some issues. About mile 5 my knee started hurting been battling it but was getting better. I just hung on and hoped it would nit get worse. By mile 6 it hurt and not in the same way as it had been. I still wanted to finish but was making mental notes of where it hurt for PT. Again it was different. It was pain at the very top of my calf pulling my knee causing the knee to hurt. By 7 I had to stop. It was so different so I walked a bit and then stretched some. I think I just had some kind of knot in the calf. After I stretched it felt ok so I started running on it. It was better. I made it home, wished I had stopped sooner for that stretch.

I did my T pace on Thursday in the cold but it was fine. However yesterday I was just tired. I normally do the elliptical on my off days but I just couldn’t. The good thing it was a rest day so I walked dogs. That was it. I feel pretty good this morning and the weather will be warm for the run this morning and no rain. Tomorrow will be tougher. Long run plus rain but I think it will be 60 degrees.

Sounds good. Sounds like the knot was a single occurrence since the T pace went fine. Just keep listening to your body. Hang in there for that long run and remember to enjoy the runs you can do because you never know when this one could be your last.

Good news on the test results. The 6 miler this morning was good except for the fog. The rain held off but everything was wet. The fog was thick so we changed our course. We have a nice path we can get 6 miles in for an out and back, normally we do that for Tuesday morning runs. On the weekend we mix it up a little so the plan was downtown loop but decided not a good idea with the fog. Lots of stop lights and cars and visibility was low and puddles were high. To the Beltline we went. Knee is holding up fine no recurrence of sunday’s issue, and the more normal knee issues I have been having or trying not to have again were no issues.

Sounds like the run went well!

Good news on the tests so far. Everything continues to come back negative. Including the ANA test which included 150 antibodies to different autoimmune disorders (including CREST). It is not definitive, but does seem to make it "highly unlikely".
Great! Of course, that means you're still a mystery. :)

Per the wife, we are now in the market for a treadmill. She would prefer that I stop running on such cold days moving forward (when I start again). She wants to get the new Peloton Tread. It sure looks interesting, but I want to see how the next few weeks go before I sink in that kind of investment. Probably need to make a trip down to Chicago as well and give it a test run.

Blech. You know from our training plan conversations that I'm not a big treadmill fan, at least for regular use. What's the issue with the cold? I can see ice being a concern, but I don't see why the temperature itself should be an issue.

I have a Spirit something - I could check. I got it about 3 years ago to replace a 10+ year-old Nordic Trac that I used until it fell apart. The Spirit is OK. No on-device screen display for movies, etc., because I have it set up in my basement with an entertainment unit. I wish that it accelerated faster to get up to speed - for 1-min type intervals, I think 20 sec are spent accelerating.

The other downside to a treadmill is that if you keep it in your house (as opposed to say, a garage), it's always warm in your house. I don't like that for running. :)

On the other hand, treadmills are nice for recovery days in the winter when you want to just walk for a little active recovery and don't want to deal with the cold. Put on a TV show and get some steps!

The treadmill will make HAT way easier too :-) Glad test are coming back negative, hopefully the little break is all you needed!

Never been a fan of treadmills. But if it comes down to my wife telling me I can't run outside because it's too cold (thus no running) vs running on a treadmill, then I guess I'll suck it up on the treadmill. The temperature is a concern if it's a trigger for raynuad's. Since WI weather rarely gets above 30 from November through April, then I'd need to find something to avoid a trigger. I'm thinking more-so much colder days for treadmill days, but I need to find that balance for myself if it comes down to saving my hands.

Funny enough, at today's birthday party for my daughter I confirmed with my mother she indeed has raynaud's as well (she just didn't know the name of it).

Personally, I've run as low as -25F for 10 miles and was fine before. But moving forward, I might need to avoid those super cold days.

Agreed. I've always preferred the cold.

Totally much warmer. Thankfully the basement is quite chilly here in WI. I'd guess it's probably in the 50s down there.

Read that earlier. Seemed luke warm to me. I'd definitely need to run on it to get a feel for his description and whether I find it to be weird. It's really pricey which means I need to justify and be completely satisfied with it before even seriously considering it.

The Peloton one is moderately interesting to me. I have a couple of colleagues that have the bikes and they absolutely love them. That being said I don't know how much I would use the classes and that seems to be a big part of their value proposition.

I might be inclined for the classes given the possible competitive nature of them. Might help alleviate some of the "I want to get off this" feelings.

Aw, happy birthday, Gigi!!
I love that she has a moon cake. I hope she's not too attached to cake, though, because I feel like they don't eat much cake in space. You should buy some of that astronaut ice cream stuff (do they still sell that?) ... get her started on her astronaut diet early.

(Also ... I didn't know Crazy Frog was still around.)
