The ABCs of Another Steppe Into Adventure!- Last Africa Ch. + World Showcase Pt. 2

You dorks. Those aren’t the ORs. Lol! That’s where I work - in recovery. ;) Nausea? Got ya covered. Pain? I can fix that too!

Wow! I don't even like moving my own stuff so to move for work is impressive!

Um, well, that is an option that I hadn't considered. I will now opt for a shoulder replacement and bonus tummy tuck. And outdoors if that makes it cheaper...
Okay, you want an al fresco shoulder coming out of your tummy. Got it!

Yay for the new facility! It is so nice working in a new place. You may have seen on Facebook but my employer built a new hospital that we moved into this past April. Quite the undertaking! A great experience though which I am sure it was for you too!

The waterfall, so lovely the day before, was waning with no fresh water to replenish it. I captured it's contrast, noting the sad build up of new trash that marred its former beauty.

That's a shame. But I think pkondz nailed how it happens.

Since the kitchen in the house wasn’t finished yet, all of the cooking was done outside on propane burners. Not a bad idea, actually. It keeps the greasy smells out, the whole house cleaner, and keeps the house from heating up more as well.

Very wise.

It was an interesting breakfast; the discussion flowed freely and was quite enlightening. The topic revolved mostly around human rights, human dignity, self-empowerment, and how the poor of Sierra Leone could lift themselves out of such a dire situation, given their government's poor leadership that, at its core, is greedy and abusive.

Wow, that's impressive. Our breakfast conversation rarely rises above grunts, unless it's to ask if there's any more coffee.

They paid no less than $2,000 in “fees” (read bribes) to get them to release our goods of medications, donated clothing, medical supplies, and items for the NGO hotel. Ridiculous and infuriating!

OMG. That's horrible.

I saw a LOT of unfinished homes. If the owner is not physically present, construction must stop as the workers cannot be trusted to do anything quality without direct oversight. Also, many construction projects happen in phases as the owner is able to pay.

Man, I can't even imagine how long things must take to get done. It's a different world.

We were told to bring a formal gown to wear and that this was to be an occasion that would bring another TV crew and perhaps some dignitaries. Neither would prove to be true, but at least we looked good later that evening.

Yikes. I'd be totally lost. I don't have any formal gowns.

The profound level of poverty is difficult for those of us in the West to even comprehend. None of those boys had EVER worn a pair of shoes. Not once. Ever.

I can't even imagine. We complain about a lot of stupid stuff.

Too bad, because it was a really cool dollhouse made of dozens of carefully handcut wooden pieces. I thought it was pretty cool, given that a 12-year old, poor child made it out of love for his family.

Wow, that is great! I hope whoever won it is enjoying it.

Like, you know, raw oysters.

Subtle shout out. Thanks.

I busted out my best African dance moves. You may be asking yourself just exactly how I knew any African dance moves at all, but I assure you I DID have practice before going.

My African dance moves would look exactly like my American dance moves. I can do the 360-degree wobble.

If you know me at all, I’m not ashamed to post the most embarrassing of photos of myself here. I have no problem laughing at myself- here’s proof of that too.

And we love you for it!

I think I owe you guesses for the last contest round. I'll try and get around to that soon.

I've had at least two or three. I noticed that the tooth was a bit sensitive to pressure (biting hard foods like hard candy or nuts) for a long time. Maybe a year? And it didn't happen for every tooth. So... YMMV. But any discomfort was definitely gone afterwards.

Okay, so we've had a bit of a party here the last few days while I very nearly killed myself working overtime. One more day, then 5 (count them, 5!!) glorious days off. I haven't done laundry in over 2 1/2 weeks so it'll be nice to have underwear again. Ever gotten to the point of almost going out to Target to get more because you think it'll just be faster?

Hopefully, will find time and energy to get to replies to your ridiculous(ly funny) conversation later. Love you guys. :)

@franandaj - sending good thoughts and wishes for an easy procedure tomorrow! I hope it doesn't take too long to recover from and you can be back to feeling like yourself and eating delicious food again soon!!

Ugh. The worst I've had is crowns, and evidently I had two. Well there was that gum surgery 20 years ago....OK that was the worst. Chewing on the left side of my mouth is getting really old.

Thanks! I can't wait to get back to eating yummy food (although I did have some pretty yummy food yesterday, it just hurt a lot to eat it!). I'm so desperate tonight, I stayed home from band because playing my saxophone terrified me. I've chopped up all the ingredients for a bunless burger and I'm just waiting for the ground beef to thaw in a water bath, then I'll make the equivalent of a burger scramble! sans egg.
