Three options on three different cruiselines. We have cruised Carnival about 10 times and RCCL once and already have a Jan 2019 booked with them. So NCL would be new for us. Been on Disney cruise once and considered them but they are $1000pp more and that's just crazy.

1) The brand new Carnival Horizon out of Miami on Oct 6 for 8 nights. Going to Grand Turk (been to twice), San Juan (been to), St Maarten and St Kitts (both new to us). Looking at inside aft cabins that are on a deck sandwiched between other cabin decks (so cabins above and below us for less noise). Price is $1677 and we get $50 OBC. We'd need to fly.

2) The Norwegian Getaway. Looks big and nice. Is Oct 7 and 7 nights out of Miami as well, so we'd fly in. Goes to Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya (all new to us) and Cozumel (been to twice). This pricing is different because we get to select a free option. It is $2030 for and inside forward (cabins above and below), which I am not fond of forward due to motion issues but they don't have many inside aft cabins and price jumps. Free option we'd pick is free open bar for two (drink package). Could pick $50 per port for excursions or guests 2 and 3 free (just us though) or 3 meals package (NCL has free style dining with many surcharge restaurants) or I think there was some spa package I didn't pay attention to. We also would likely do some surcharge dining on this ship and that would bring cost up.

3) Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas on Oct 7 out of Port Canaveral. We could drive to port. It's 7 nights and goes to St Maarten, Haiti (both new to us) and San Juan (been to once). Only three ports compared to other choices four. Have always wanted to go on this floating city. Waited for it to be affordable, and it is at $1427 for an inside aft cabin. But she is an old girl now at 9 years old....or at least she is the oldest of my three choices. But she is affordable. I preferred Carnival's MDR and buffet food to RCCL's but this ship likely has many surcharge venues.

**Prices are for two people. Includes all taxes and fees.

I voted Oasis! We’ve been on several cruises since 2001 (first one was on the Disney Magic to celebrate our 25th anniversary) and have sailed with Disney, Carnival and Royal. Our last few cruises have been on Carnival and we decided to go back to Royal. I have wanted to go on the Oasis for a long time, we are booked on the Oasis for next February, can hardly wait! :yay:

We're in the process of trying to pick a cruise too, and have looked at similar option to yours, except for the March - May time frame. Prices are high, and the prices you've quoted are disturbingly high for an inside during hurricane season.

Of the cruises you've listed we'd probably go with NCL for the speciaty dining (they do an excellent job with that) and the entertainment. Carnival has woeful entertainment and that's important to us. We'd also choose the dining credit instead of the drinks, but drinks are expensive if you're going to consume quite a few, so that might influence your choice. RCCL would be our last choice in this instance because the ports are boring (we've been to them all) and we're a little tired of their MDR menus. The only upside to it is the price and honestly, I often just choose whatever is cheapest.

Of course you could have a great time on any of them, and I'm sure you will. I'd also recommend you check sailings leaving from Galveston. During October the brand new Carnival Vista is sailing from there, as is the Carnival Freedom and RCCL Liberty of the Seas. Itineraries are very similar to what you're looking at and the prices seem a little lower for insides. For us, flying into Houston is quite a bit less expensive than MIA or MCO. :wave2:

I voted for Oasis. That was the first ship DW and I cruised on and the ship is as much as a destination as the ports. Based on what you posted, here's why I chose Oasis:
1) Cheapest
2) Driveable
3) I really like St. Maartan and would like to return

Other thoughts... factor in the cost to fly to Miami (I'm a little surprised that you can drive to PC but Miami would require a flight).
I liked Oasis' shows, but that was before they put Cats on. Don't get me wrong, I liked Cats when I saw it as a teenager, but some seem to hate it.
My parents sailed on NCL and weren't crazy about something (don't remember what).
Oasis definitely has surcharge restaurants.

The flying part struck me also. Can't you drive to Miami and save the flight cost? We have driven from NY to Florida several times and also from PC to Miami (seemed like nothing after the trip from NY) LOL.

We live in NC and have DVC so we don't mind the 9 hour drive and can stay night at WDW. The drive to Miami would be 2.5 hours more, no? DH loves to drive because we hate to fly and hate the cost but, for some reason, he wants to fly if we do Miami. I'd fly to PC too, but that's me.

I wouldn't recommend it just because it's during high hurricane season. Concur with a PP that the prices seem high for that time of year for inside staterooms on those lines, assuming it's for only two people.

I voted Oasis only because we have done her & Allure 3 times. We have a great time all 3 times. But so many factors on what ship to pick - age, kids, activity level etc..

Also just make sure you get trip insurance that time of year, weather can be iffy in the Caribbean then.

We've cruised in hurricane season and would get travel insurance, for sure...but it doesn't bother us that it is hurricane season. I looked at Galveston and most have only three ports, like the Oasis. But we like port intensive and also are not stoked about Western Caribbean ports. So I think we're leaning towards the Carnival Horizon. And nobody voted for that one, lol. We do like Carnival and I know not many folks do.

I've sailed all three lines recently (within the last 18 months). I'd go with Norwegian. While all three were about the same for service, the entertainment and food on Norwegian blew Carnival and Royal Caribbean out of the water. We also liked the perks. While Norwegian was a bit more expensive upfront, the total cost came to less as we had the free beverage package and free specialty dining.

I voted for NCl. Bt, would consider Carnival. I do not like Royal Carribean at all. We cruise 2 or 3 times a year. NCl is our favorite. We have sailed on most lines and have been on over 60 cruises. We have only sailed on RC twice- I don't like the lay out of their ships, pool bars close very early, evening entertainment ended around 11 pm. excet for casino and dance club.

It's funny how people can have different experience on cruise lines. We did Carnival years ago so maybe it has changed but it was one big drunk ship. NCL we liked but it was just not our cup of tea. We love RCL and have sailed them for our dozen cruises. We are booked on 1 sailing in April with 5 islands in 7 days so we don't late night too often. We do island heavy cruises.

I had a really bad experience on Carnival about 15 yrs ago. I swore I would never go on them again. carnival even gave me an $800 credit to cruise with them again. I had no interest. Then about 5 yrs ago, there was a fantastic deal on Carnival Breeze. I booked and really enjoyed that ship. We have been on a few Carnival cruises since then. We prefer smaller ships on longer itineraries. So we often sail on NCL or Holland America. Once, our kids hit tween years, they were no longer interested in DCL.

I love RCCL, but not the big ships. I would chose a smaller one.
I have 3 RCCL cruises booked, 1 Disney and one Viking. Just got back from a Disney one. Love cruising.

My actual been on cruise line fav is Celebrity which is a subsidiary of RCL; smaller ships, better food.
I'm working on a Crystal cruise but have to peel the man away from DGD-centric vacations first, LOL

For all age groups heck of a lot of options as far as the latest of the greatest in leisure and food (ahhh but you have to pay extra for certain food..sheesh)
I'm all for RCL.
We took a NYC-Bermuda trip on RCL a few years back and wound up meeting a Celebrity alumni on the island. She was traveling on Norwegian and gave her review on the line which boiled down to don't do it. It's not what either of us seek in a cruise line so doubt I'll ever pay money for it....now if it were free that would be something else;).

The Horizon sounds great! I love a new ship.

We have not cruised on the cruise lines mentioned.
Would def. steer away from NCL. (even though their food does seem good!)
We do not really need the huge 'fun ships'. We have always cruised as two adults.

Our next cruise will be on the Princess Regal. Their newest ship in the Caribbean.

General question: When did Royal Caribbean's acronym change from RCL to RCCL? Were they acquired by a new company or did another line come into being with similar initials?
Only asking for clarity purposes since cruising forums remind me of the DIS with all it's specialised acronyms. I was a mess trying to figure out the lingo when I first began planning a DW trip, LOL.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line
Carnival Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line

Just how I think of it.
