10 NIGHTS RPR...MARDI GRAS & COCKTAILS....MARCH 2018 TRIP

All of the cocktails do look amazing! I ordered the Blackberry Margarita last May and it was yummy. I actually had 2 :rolleyes1 but felt like I needed a proper nap after being out in the sun. So I went back to RPR and took one while DH and DD went to the pool. Evidently I'm a cheap date, according to my husband.

Lol.......yep, 2 are easy to drink........they are delicious! Have to admit, I’m not great drinking in daytime.......cocktails or wine at lunch and I’m usually ready for a nap, so I don’t blame you.......they are strong....

I am excited to try Jake's on our next trip. I was showing our son (also a one and only) the pictures and when he found out that the theme of the restaurant is aviation based...he was sold. And from looking at the pictures...I think that I am sold on the flaming volcano/tiki bowl drink!

[/QUOTE]

The bowls are quite big........we first got one last year.......not sure why we hadn’t had one before.......lush!!!

Yep, the avation theme is pretty cool.......your son will like it a lot I’m sure..........food is always so good in there......

I'm happy to see another trip report! I love how you all have so much fun together! <3

:welcome: Back Cara..........

Thank you!!! We adore our trips and try to have the best time ever........and we usually manage it......:D

Glad to have you back with us..........:wave2:

Enjoying following along on your latest trip report. We overlapped with you on night (the 15th) at RPR. It was our only night there and really enjoyed it and wished we'd had more time to enjoy the hotel as it is absolutely lovely. While the weather was beautiful and warmer than the snow at home, I wouldn't have minded a bit more heat. It definitely got cool at night.

I’m sorry we never ran into you on the 15th.........I joked with Tom in the Club Lounge we should walk around the hotel shouting prairiesarah and see if anyone replied.........lol....... maybe not the best idea.........

Yes, it did get cooler at night.......I’ll bet in September I’ll be wishing for a little of that cooler breeze.......::yes::

FRIDAY MARCH 16TH........

We slept great last night......probably the best most refreshing sleep we had enjoyed for weeks. The excitement of any trip always builds particularly high as it gets ever closer, so sleeping does suffer. Many ask if we still get as excited for each trip despite having been many times, and the answer is always the same.......it gets better. It really does.

It looked gorgeous outside this morning again, but the repeating voice on the weather channel was reminding us constantly that it was going to be cool and not overly warm when we went out this morning.......on our last day we thought that maybe we should have left the parks till later......but we didn't think of this at the time........it would have made sense........doh!!! But, you know what it`s like, you just want to get out and start the day as son as you can........we knew Kyle was at work, so we weren't going to speak to him today at all.

So we got showered and dressed and went up for breakfast........we saw another face we knew well and had a lovely welcome again.......the lounge wasn't too busy this morning and we got our usual assortment of items including toast, croissants and some mini muffins........the new club manager Robert we met in December came up to the lounge to welcome us back again. Nice man and so nice he came to speak to us.....made us feel very welcome again......as usual the coffee was welcome and we didn't rush either as we had plenty of time to get to where we were going today......I never look at park opening times as we have no plans to do EE ever.......it doesn't appeal to us. So time is not something we watch often........we chat and we pass the time. Andy appeared with another plate of strawberries for us.....such a nice guy and I have to say the strawberries were delicious........

On the way out we asked for some bottles of water and some cans of ginger ale for our room.......we hadn't bought water at Walmart, and like to have some bigger bottles in the fridge. So he gave us a bag full away with us.......it was heavy! We thanked him for that and the strawberries and we went down to put them in our room. This was where we put on the sunscreen.......and set off for the morning.

We walked outside at the door from the elevator and boy did that chill hit!!!! The lifeguards were all wrapped up in long jackets and full trousers as they sat or stood at their post.......I was shivering.......but I was determined it was going to warm up......although for now I felt very silly as we passed people who had on full trousers and some had jackets......it was that cold. But, we were hardy.......or foolish, not quite sure.........the walk to IOA is a lovely one, and soon we began to warm up as we increased our pace.......thinking warm was working.

We got to the security check and one of the guys asked if I was feeling the heat.......I laughed and did admit I`d have preferred to have been wearing his jacket.....it looked warm!! He pretended to take it off for a second........but, he didn't.......it must be freezing standing there in the shade with the coolness all around them........took my bag off and it went through the xray.....and we walked through the scanner.......no issues with these this time. And now we walked back into sunshine as we turned left at Margaritaville..........this really is an ideal walking path, takes no time at all to get to the parks from the hotels, even PB isn't that bad of a walk.

It was warmer in the sunshine and we kind of basked in it for a few moments on the bridge while what seemed like an endless stream of folks headed into the park..........this was busier than crowds we had seen for a while at this time of the morning.......but still not as bad as we expected........we wandered down and went through the turnstile......well, I went through the turnstile.....Tom`s AP didn't recognize him......oh dear......he tried his fingerprint a few times and still didn't work......but eventually it did work. This was going to be a problem throughout our trip.......

But for now we were in........our tradition is to walk through the store first thing.....not sure why as I do love walking in through Port of Entry......it is so colourful and so much going on.......I even noticed something this trip I had never noticed before......will post pictures on another day, but it was something I had seen many times, but never noticed. Nothing major..........but there are things to hear if you stop and listen at certain buildings along the way.......theming. It is there despite some saying there is no theming at Universal outside of Potter. The music too we have a fondness for.....quite unique and every time we hear it we feel we are somewhere we love.

However this morning we didn't stop to take many pictures on the way in as it was cool. We did wander down to where the sun was streaming down on and took a couple of pictures there.......the brightness of the sun belies the true temperature this morning.

i-KCnHgJj-XL.jpg

i-VgZSFNP-XL.jpg

i-THHdGvD-XL.jpg

I love this area of Port of Entry as there are very few people come down here, especially at this time of the morning.......it`s so pretty and plenty of picture ops. We liked to wander around the little areas you have a slightly different vantage point.....and views are always lovely.

i-hgTwD82-XL.jpg

i-9wvrsxH-XL.jpg

i-53vCdNp-XL.jpg

i-7x7KCqT-XL.jpg

So then we wandered straight to Hulk and as we were strapped in we felt a certain draught from somewhere and then noticed TM`s were wrapped up.......we began to doubt this was a good idea.........well, the ride was still good........excellent in fact......but......we were at the front and it was freezing!!!! Absolutely freezing.......almost felt like this kind of cold.........

I swear my eyes were glazed when we got off........and took me a few seconds to stop them watering (I said melting at the time)

But it was fun and definitely a one and done this morning..........my arms were frozen and I did insist we stand in the sun for a few minutes.......I would be warm!!!!

We looked at the ever statuesque Dr Doom and wondered about the sense of doing that.....again being projected through the cold air wasn't tempting, but we love that ride........although some may remember this is the one ride Tom is nervous on.....he loves it, but this is the one that gives him pause and worries about.......but we always do it and do it many times over.......but today would be another one and done....and yep......it was cold too. But we loved it.........there was no one here so we skipped straight back on with TM permission of course......saves walking all the way back around..........we did this twice this morning.......being propelled up into the coolest of air isn't my idea of fun......but you have to do it.

We left Doom and headed to our regular next ride of Spider-Man.........I love running into Spider-Man himself where you least expect it........many years ago I hadn't gone on Doom and I was standing waving to Tom and Kyle and lo and behold this voice appeared beside me saying "they'll see you now"......lol......Kyle was shouting at Tom that I was stood beside Spider-Man........

This time he was going between Doom and the Spider-Man ride.......I had put the camera in my bag for the ride so didn't catch a picture.......as we all know Spider-Man doesn`t hang around for long.......we did however get a high five each......I admonished Tom for not having his usual Spider-Man tee shirt on......he usually does wear it to IOA........but that was nice running into him again........the Spider-Man ride itself was a walk on for EP and it was 15 minutes for regular line which was a surprise as it didn't look as busy this way.......but we actually didn't stop from when we walked in and we walked straight onto a ride vehicle as the gates had just opened.........

I like the second row of the vehicle as when it gets to the spinny bit I can focus my vision on the person in front me.....staring at the back of their head helps allay feeling of dizziness and spinning......some people can close their eyes and it helps, doesn't for me and never has helped, in fact it makes it worse. So I`m happy with the second or third row.......this is such a good ride......very familiar of course, but one we enjoy every trip and wouldn't miss it........we only do this once though and head back out to the sunshine........and forget it`s cooler.......but it is already starting to warm up........

We have a bathroom stop and then wander around to do Kong.....but not before stopping around Toon Town........so many colourful items to see here.....although that barking dog outside the Betty Boo store will have to go......how annoying would that be listening to it all day......but we always have some pictures taken here......it`s tradition!!

i-Qc7mCDc-XL.jpg

i-H5JtrpM-XL.jpg

i-FvQRmTz-XL.jpg

i-dx6btgW-XL.jpg

Although the ride was open we didn't see anyone on Bluto Bilge Barges yet...........there really weren't many people around this morning......which of course made me think they had all turned right going in the park for Potter...........

i-dnckvTr-XL.jpg

i-R7ZpNwL-XL.jpg

And of course Tom`s favourite saying after every trip...........

i-phG5GFC-XL.jpg

We wandered into this little store today......first time ever.........we spoke to the lady who works there and she was a working snowbird...she would go back home to Maine for a few months in the heat of the summer, nice lady and we had a nice chat.......but there really isn't much to see in this store for us, it was all the Pet movie stuff.........but least we had gone in....

i-8CXrzd5-XL.jpg

We wandered around to have a look and see if anyone was on RipSaw falls........nope, no one yet.......but I`m sure there would be soon as the cooler weather doesn't seem to bother some.....even when soaked........but for now, it was all empty boats coming down the very fast but fabulous drop.........

i-QKFTGgN-XL.jpg

I`m glad we don't have anyone small enough to go on Pteranadon Flyers........it looks quite scary!!! I`m sure it must be safe, but we don't fancy riding it anyway.....looks a little precarious up there.........

i-XCmBvgj-XL.jpg

We head round to Kong and now we begin to see where everyone is........it is busy......looks busy and feels busy. There is one very large group who are blocking off the whole path for anyone to pass.......I`m really not shy with things like this and while people were struggling to squeeze past.....the bold Carole expels a very loud and authoritative "Excuse us"............I swear the whole area stops and turns.......Tom is snorting with laughter and again reminds me I`d have made a good teacher....or a foghorn :rotfl:........but they move back against the wall and folks can pass. I don't know if they were unaware of the folks they were stopping pass or just didn't mind. But, we got past and looked around.......the queue was fairly long for the regular line, maybe an hour????

i-dVsJHvr-XL.jpg

i-c4gR8G7-XL.jpg

We walked in to the EP line and we wandered in to where it gets darker.....and this was where the EP line ended.......we immediately turned and walked back out......no way would we stand in that line.......we passed a few surprised looking people as we went back out and a couple followed us out too when we told them where the line was back to.......no Kong today then. It`s a decent ride and I like it, but it`s not worth that queue.

We automatically pass JPRA....this isn't even mentioned as an option for this trip........90F and over are when we do water rides of any kind......yes, we may be wimps.......but I`ll gladly admit to that..........

So coming back out we wandered around to Jurassic area........as usual there are always people taking pics of the vehicles but we did get a gap and thought we hadn't done this one in a while......my picture of Tom didn't turn out as the sun was blinding, not complaining it was just in an awkward spot.......

You do however get a good side view of Hogwarts Castle from here...........

i-r3GzNJP-XL.jpg

We head down to the Jurassic Park Visitors centre area.......this is usually quiet and deserted down here as very few people wander off the regimented paths at times.......it is so peaceful and tranquil.....although I imagine on really busy days it wont be just as quiet.......

i-K3sPbH9-XL.jpg

This gate leads to a set of steps that unfortunately you can`t get to them..........the curious side of me would love to see where they lead to.....although I`m sure it`s TM only........

i-d3T8QVF-XL.jpg

i-hWDRmmh-XL.jpg

i-G6QMWSc-XL.jpg

I love these gates!!!!! I`d love them to replace the gates we have.......that would be cool!!!! And so impressive.........

i-gSMn7rg-XL.jpg

It really is so peaceful down here......almost as if we are the only ones around.....which is quite the way to feel in a busy theme park such as Universal...........but we do and we pass a little time here........

i-jNhxTZ5-XL.jpg

i-hQt5pKD-XL.jpg

i-m97mtLp-XL.jpg

We really didn't see a soul for around 15 - 20 minutes down here.........but for now we were heading into Potter area and se how busy it was in there........however by now it was almost lunch and we were looking forward to going back to a favourite place........

I would have found that quite amusing had I run into you, DH on the other hand would have wondered about you....:D

I walked out of the elevator that morning and just about went back for a sweater - definitely a bit of a chill, but I was determined to not wear one on my last morning in Florida! We walked across the pool deck to take a look on our way to the walking path and I felt bad for the lifeguards - they looked like they were freezing. We must have just missed each other that day - we looped into US to take the Hogwarts Express then through Hogsmeade for a ride on the Flight of the Hippogriff then DS checked out the Jurassic Discovery Centre while I went out back and took some photos.

I've been mulling over potential dates for another trip. I currently have a secret plan for December, but will see if i can pull that off, otherwise potentially February. I'd really like a straight stay at RPR or PBH rather than broken up like this trip. Would make for a bit more relaxing trip and allow us to see a few other things in Orlando that I'd like to see.

Years ago I was on a Mardi Gras float with my daughter. Only time I’ve been during MG. What an amazing memory that is. Now that my kids are grown and I do mostly adults only trips, I will have to remember to come back during MG. Looks like a fabulous time.

I am enjoying your trip report as always. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Lol........I can imagine!!!

We must have missed each other buy the sounds of it, and maybe even at the Discovery Centre.........

Oh secret plan for December?? Hope that works out for you.......yes, staying in one place will be nice...........there are so many things to see and places to go in Florida I know we run out of time to do them all and do the parks and resort justice too.......

It`s why we don't plan to do many parks in May and get around a bit more......but the draw of the parks is always tempting........::yes::

:welcome:

christophfam..........I`m so glad you are enjoying reading along........

We are definitely going back next year for Mardi Gras......it is so much fun!! The floats must have been an adventure to do especially with your daughter.......yep, that would be a good memory.........

Nice to have you post.....I appreciate it........:wave2:

FRIDAY MARCH 16TH.......CONT

We went back to the regular walking path reluctantly and merged with what seemed like hundreds of people...it wasn't really that bad but after the tranquility of being beside the lagoon, it seemed busy.........

Of course you can never get enough pictures of the castle or anything in Hogsmeade.........it truly is a phenomenon of a place.......the castle is resplendent set high on the imaginary clifftop.......and has got to be one of the most photographed buildings in Orlando........it`s gotta be the best castle in town........right..........lol........and so much detail like I have never seen........in every part of Potter areas.

i-QQMrk6p-XL.jpg

i-nDVJ7Pj-XL.jpg

Tom went around and snapped some images........I was happy sitting now and relishing this heat.......it was gorgeous. But I can see where my family call me The Lizard........I love the heat of the sun.........And thank goodness for sunscreen........we would still burn if we didn't have it on even in cooler temps......we just have that type of skin. It was lovely sitting here just watching the world pass for a few minutes........Tom meanwhile was snapping away quite merrily.......neither of us felt like going on FJ today, so we decided just to enjoy the area without the rides.......we do love them, but don't always feel the need to ride them.

i-hqbXrBT-XL.jpg

i-JhRBMSJ-XL.jpg

i-Lp5Jc3q-XL.jpg

i-6q93THn-XL.jpg

We never eat in the Potter restaurants, but we do like to go into the Hogshead for a drink.......usually lemonade or pumpkin fizz as neither of us is very keen on Butterbeer........we love the Butterbeer fudge and the ice cream is nice, but the actual drink isn't for us......out of them all though we did prefer the frozen. But for today we share a pumpkin fizz as it is rather sweet and quit hard to finish one on my own........

We sit at our favourite table in here, beside the 3 Broom sticks themselves........I`m always amazed people don't know they are in there, and have lost count of the number of people I`ve mentioned it to and they all say......where........you really can`t miss them.......and again......look up while you are in there......there are movements above you going on.......

i-ztJ5x4P-XL.jpg

i-6SbcdSL-XL.jpg

i-McW47Hb-XL.jpg

I always say though, although we don't eat in here, the aroma of the food is delicious.......not sure if it`s the fish and chips but it does make one hungry........

We head back out in the sunshine after enjoying our shared fizz drink, one really is enough.........and we catch a gap in the crowds to get an image of the sweet shop without hordes of people in front of it........

i-zb4x224-XL.jpg

The store is cramped and small but that to me is the charm of it, and I have memories of sweet shops when I was a child like this......not like this of course in design, nothing as elaborate or bright.......but the style and size are reminiscent of a bygone time.......makes me sound like I`m 100!!!! But you can see exactly what JKR was trying to achieve when she had all this in her mind........and it works. If you've read the books of course you have a better idea I think.

We didn't buy anything today, but instead came out into the sunshine and had a chat with the friendly conductor who was very keen to have his picture taken.....they are so much in character all the time.......and he immediately said I was from Scotland......yay.......I love how they chat to you as though you are in a real place (ykwim)

i-SLFWX5P-XL.jpg

We ponder for a moment after we leave the conductor where we want to eat lunch.........we go and decide outside the station and watch the continued destruction of our once favourite coaster........but, cannot wait till they finally announce the whole plan for this area, it will be spectacular I`m sure.........but still......Duelling Dragons.........yes, I definitely hold a grudge.

i-tVjKWqd-XL.jpg

Despite what is going in here, it`s a shame for everyone who maybe this is their only time to visit and there is massive construction going on here......it is quite noisy and not very slightly........ This area is usually so immersive and you can`t hear anything coming from outside despite being so close to the road particularly in JP area.......we have been here hundreds of times and never heard anything from the road......and we have listened to see if we could.......not a sound.......so it`s a shame for one time visitors that this is here. But I do know it`ll be worth it......

i-zKLJzwr-XL.jpg

We have decided to go to Confisco Grill for lunch, but it`s just a little early yet........so we head out to do Dr Seuss.......we love the trolley.....cat in the hat we do on the odd occasion, but love the trolley.....except the really high bit over the water!!! But, that's just me.....

We stop by the fountain to see if he has anything to say, but, he`s quiet today......water is just bubbling away.......which is a shame as I adore sitting listening to him.....sometimes for over an hour at a time........so we head out into the bazaar area.......I find this area rather cool actually although I do believe it`s days are numbered......although I`ve been saying that for a couple of years.........but on a beautiful day I think it looks lovely.

i-XvMS29x-XL.jpg

i-xqzFVHX-XL.jpg

And of course this is the building that has so much potential for future projects..........stunning building, but the potential for doing something ultra spectacular must be so strong........and it`s a huge space of land too.........I`m looking forward to that announcement........

i-KJZS73z-XL.jpg

i-JkJmrjq-XL.jpg

i-tJx7XTH-XL.jpg

And into Seuss Landing........must be one of the most colourful areas of the park........

i-WwjMzHC-XL.jpg

We don't really have many pictures with characters anymore.....Scooby Doo and Gru are exceptions of course.......but we were just walking past these guys and there was no one with them so they called us over as only CiTH can.........it was funny........so of course we had to get a picture with them.........The TM with the characters are always happy to take your pictures with your camera at any meet and greet around the parks......you usually don`t need to ask, they will offer.

i-szFB949-XL.jpg

The Trolley Train is next on our list today.........we still go through Express as it just saves trundling up and around a whole lot of nothing......there isn't any great reason to walk through this full line if you don't have to.......so we are on quickly......

i-NXsGHWD-XL.jpg

This is the cutest little ride........I`ve said many times, we weren't brought up on Dr Seuss so we had no clue what the stories were about as a child......it was quite the revelation to see things like CItH and a few others.........but we knew them now as adults and did find them all a little odd. Love the Grinch of course......who doesn't watch that movie at Christmas..........but for the story as we go around on the train.......haven't a clue.

This is one of my favourites scenes ever in the Grinch..........

We come off that........is there any way to climb out of that delicately.........I don't think there is......but we head down the very winding path out and of course head through the very colourful store with all the very tempting cakes and cookies.....we do resist again today. And we also resist the rather giant fresh cotton candy being made.........we call that candy floss in the UK.......first time I ate it I was 4......my mum says I was mystified where it went as it just dissolved immediately.......they thought it was funny as I looked to see if I had dropped it.......oh dear.

Further along were these guys..........we didn't stop to listen to the stories, but the little ones were sitting totally enthralled by it all......

i-2hTthLV-XL.jpg

This whole area is so bright and almost a kaleidoscope of colour all draped around you........it is beautiful though and very attractive and yes, very bright.......but I think that's the idea of course.........we don't go on the merry go round as I don't want to get dizzy, but I`d love to as it looks so much fun!! I`d regret it though........

i-NwC5Tgg-XL.jpg

i-3FbsGSL-XL.jpg

i-v57wcdH-XL.jpg

i-RR7VDz6-XL.jpg

i-pfr57Dn-XL.jpg

i-n77RZNq-XL.jpg

I always joke Tom should rule the world........with my help of course.........lol.......so this sign is so apt for anyone who should be in charge.......or thinks they should be...........lol.......

i-8hPG8Qj-XL.jpg

i-FggRk4Z-XL.jpg

And of course the infamous and often elusive Green Eggs and Ham food option.........we have seen this open a few times over the 11 years we have been visiting and I do have pictures to prove as the TM`s waved to me as I took their picture......if only to prove to some that it does actually open on occasion.......but not very often.........and not today........

i-tmcbJmt-XL.jpg

i-8dZNFkG-XL.jpg

i-2Gv7wrS-XL.jpg

i-NSqczmh-XL.jpg

We do make lunch eventually........up next with some chocolate from Toothsome and dinner at The Palm.

Your last set of pictures look like the park was deserted.........

It really did feel deserted while we were down in that area, not many people seem to venture off the main paths......even on a busy day we`ve never seen more than a few people altogether around that area.......although maybe I should have kept that to myself.......:ssst:

YAY! It's Easter today and it's cold, dreary, icy/snowy and awful weather today in Kansas City. I think Mother Nature is pulling one heck of an April Fool's joke! So, was so excited to see your post today. I have sat here for the last couple of hours catching up while watching a Star Wars marathon. Tom's smile and a Star Wars marathon -- does it get any better than that?!!? ;) So many of my friends went to Orlando this spring break. I think I planned at least three vacations for folks and then just read about the others. I have been missing it so -- and then found out that my high school class has decided to do it's thirty year reunion on a cruise out of Port Canaveral next year... so, I told Davy, of course, we have to spend a few days on land! I asked him what he'd want to do in the 3 or 4 days we'd have. He couldn't decide. LOL I think Discovery Cove is his new favorite, so it may be mostly that, but because Star Wars land will be open... have to at least do one day there. I was going to avoid it until 2020 but let's just be realistic! And, I have a feeling I'm going to extend the trip. He'll want to go to Universal I'm sure.

So, Davy's favorite restaurant is Three Broomsticks... and I have to admit... I've missed the actual broomsticks I think all those times. How?!?!?

When you talk about Kyle, I SO get it. <3

Can't wait to read more!!!!!

Loving your trip reports as I always do!

Just an aside, but I had never noticed that they have the site of the Titanic sinking marked on the map (on the plane during your flight.) How cool!
