Bad Restraunt

I think dining is personal so I would not suggest you avoid any restaurant in particular. I do suggest that people are responsible for their own preferences, so they should research the menus to rule out restaurants that serve food they are not drawn to or that is a specialty in their own home area. For instance, if you live where Chinese food is really good, avoid the Chinese restaurants in WDW. I live in CT and our seafood is awesome, so I do not go to Cape May buffet. It is not bad, but it does not compare to home.

Once you research, come back and ask about opinions for specific restaurants you are interested in and maybe we can help.

Keep in my mind, if I had avoided every place that I had heard bad things about, I would have missed out on some good meals. In the end, I would say go with what sounds good to you. For example "Tony's". We heard awful things about Tony's, but we had a good meal there. Perhaps we caught them on a good day. Having said all that, from our experiences:
Coral Reef - We have eaten there 4 times. Twice it was really good. The other two times it was not so good.
BOG - This a favorite with a lot people. We have eaten there twice and was very disappointed. I also found a hair in my food. We may give it another try sometime.
"Good luck" I say try it for yourself and happy dining.

It's totally a personal choice as everyone else has said. I have never had a good food experience at Biergarten for instance. I hear great things about it, but it's never been beyond mediocre when I was there. That said, I do love their beer selection, my issue is with the food quality and the fact that I'd prefer not to be seated with strangers.

So you never know until you go :)

I'm going to start by agreeing with those who say that dining comes down to preference. At the same time, this is true only to a degree. Sometimes, bad food and service is just that -bad. When you get consistently negative reviews at the same places over time it's safe to say you might want to avoid these. What comes to mind here are places like San Angel Inn, Coral Reef, Tony's, and Hollywood & Vine for example.

As the others have said this is really subjective. There are posters on this board whose reviews I love to read but we are worlds apart. A couple of examples we love Ohana's but a couple of reviewers here think it is a place where food goes to die. Coming from Kansas City we know good barbeque and steak so I dislike Le Cellier but some reviewers totally love the place ( got to admit I love the soup). When giving reviews myself I admit I tend to focus on the service more than the food because every place has a bad night. I also tend to compare for example if you like Golden Corral then Chef Mickeys would be probably be OK for you. A friend described Hollywood & Vine food being of McDonalds quality, which he hated but his kids loved. If we have a bad meal at a place we tend to give the place another try on a later trip. Using this there is only one place on our never again list Hollywood & Vine and it was service as well as food that got it banned but even so if I had very young ones I would still go there because the character interaction there is 2nd to none, just incredible.

Pretty much what others have said. We actually like Tony’s and hate the Jungle Skipper Canteen. YMMV.

I agree totally. This is a very subjective question. Skipper Canteen was easily the worst dining experience I have ever had period, but many people love it.

If you provide specific places we can def provide our insight!

This may be true in terms of "playing the percentages," and I guess a person would never know if they were missing out on a place that they'd ultimately enjoy. But there are people who would heartily recommend any of the restaurants you named, and their recommendation would be completely opposite to yours.

My family enjoys Coral Reef, and it's usually the first restaurant my son will request, when we start making our ADR list.

Nine Dragons gets a lot of negative press, but we were very pleasantly surprised. We actually want to go back. On the other hand, we were very disappointed in Chefs de France, which is pretty popular. So form your own opinion.

I just believe that there is objective truth to be had in others' experiences. In making my own selections, I always refer to reviews. But just like when I buy something off of Amazon for example, I try to weed out what amounts to preference. Usually, I look at why someone had a good or bad experience. No excuse for being rushed, food not being hot, steak not cooked to order, etc. I will say that I really appreciate the views of people like Pete Werner, who benefits from the sheer number of visits to Disney restaurants. Something like this isn't gospel, but when it comes to dining not all opinions are created equal.

I really just work the other way - where do I want to eat the most.

Touring plans blog has a ranking of restaurants based on survey results. I start at the top and work my way down to find places I want to eat based on menu, location, and cost. I think it gives the best odds of enjoying our meals.

I also had a horrible experience at Skipper Canteen. Both horrible food and bad service.

There are several places I would not eat again, but I would say the worst would be Chef Mickey's for dinner. The food was awful and the place is so chaotic. There are much better character meals to enjoy!

TONYS! Okay it wasn't awful but.....
It is the first restaurant in the front of MK which is PRIME real estate and should warrant the great location IMO. (there's s so many sites that complain of why Disney can't do better with this first food stop by many newbies)
If you are the type of person that finds sub par pizza edible and Spaghetti with canned sauce quality then enjoy! You won't be miserable but you probably also won't be impressed.

I saw video of Chef Mickeys and it was very very loud and chaotic looking compared to the Crystal Palace.

Well, you asked and here’s my experience and opinion.

First of all, I laugh when I read, all too often, “The Food was Inedible” . I’ve been going and eating at Disney since it was just a welcome center, yes that long, I have yet to encounter inedible food. Tony’s red sauce is not to my liking, it’s gives me heartburn from hell and I seldom eat Alfredo type sauces so I don’t eat there because frankly there are other Italian restaurant where I do enjoy the red sauce. Some trash Mama Melrose but I like it, but I also like Il Mulino, different price points, different experience. I do only 3 buffets (once in a great while) Tusker House for Breakfast, Boma for dinner and Biergarten (Love African and German food) other than those, the others don’t appeal to me. Chef Mickey, certainly everything is edible, I’m just not a fan of the typical turkey, mashed potatoes and gloppy Mac & Cheese but my kid is 22 so I don’t have to do the character thing anymore. The one place I will not eat, The Commissary at DHS. The food is certainly nothing to write home about, bit it’s edible, but for whatever reason, maybe eating there to late at night, it never stays in. After 3 times over several years, I called it quits, I’d rather go hungry. Cape May, I enjoy seafood, but I don’t like it at Cape May, many others enjoy it and you may too, for me it’s a NO. Ergo Nine Dragons, 6 of us had a wonderful meal with top notch service just this past December, a lot of people don’t care for it but I plan to go again. Ohana’s, à hands down favorite, NOT FOR ME, I like my hot food hot and this concept is lost there, so having done it several times, we no longer do. It’s not to say that your experiences would mirror mine in any way, so go and enjoy! And report back! BTW, they are all noisy!
