Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

You really should read the first page of the thread. A lot of your questions have been asked and answered already here many times, and I understand not wanting to read through a 100+ page thread - but @rteetz has done a great job of filtering them out and putting them on the first page, so I suggest go there first and then come back with questions.
I actually read through the whole first page and nothing was stated on my question regarding getting on/off. And yep! I do not want to read through 100+ pages

Why is there a poll question about a/c in the gondolas? Is that suggesting that there may not be? I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be
I don't see the lack of AC as a problem. The concept art clearly shows ventilation grids and with the cars constantly moving the breeze should be sufficient to make them comfortable.

It's not like gondolas are cutting edge new tech. They are in use around the world in a variety of climates. I'm sure Disney does their homework.

Very true... I got to thinking about my statement and I’ll bet someone cries discrimination against acrophobics.

I think people are overestimating the height, I was guilty of that myself. Now they've moved on to other complaints. Honestly I don't see the point in complaining or being contrary until it's actually finished and we can see all of it.

Since that isn't a protected class any such claim would go nowhere and really you could say the same about the monorail resorts. You have to ride on a train suspended high in the air.

While there will be other ways to get places witout the gondola (even if it is bus to MK then bus to HS) any of those are going to take signifigantlty longer then the gondala.

All of this makes perfect sense to normal people but every time I turn around these days the stories get crazier and crazier!

Plus all the people with bustrophobia (yes that's a thing) will finally see some relief with the Gondola system.

Yes - I still wonder if Disney will simply add it to the disclaimer when you book at one of these resorts. "Disney supplied access to certain parks are only available via overhead tramway. If you are not comfortable with riding in this vehicle, you may provide your own transportation to the parks."

I go back and forth on how they will handle all this. Disney is not typically willing to say "poo poo to you" to it's guests, so I lean towards that they will provide some sort of accommodation if you refuse to ride the gondola, but my guess is it will be fairly inconvenient. (As I said elsewhere, one bus that loops all four resorts and DHS or Epcot, thus limiting the number of buses required.) But honestly, once they raise the prices for these resorts, why would people want to pay extra to stay there for the gondola access and then not use the gondola?

I think they will more advertise it as a plus and not mention any accompanying negative. I mean, for the Poly they advertise the monorail as a plus but don’t mention that there is no bus to EPCOT and that you *have* to take the monorail there

And if people don’t want to take the gondolas I am sure they will be happy to arrange a MinnieVan for you

I mean do people do the same at monorail resorts?

I understand there’s an optics difference between monorail and gondola (not suspended vs suspended) but the monorail goes as high if not higher than the gondola will go once complete. And it hasn’t exactly been well taken care of as of late

I think it will be something like to get to HS or Epcot you have to take the bus to AK or MK and then transfer.

Good point... disclaimers are good. I still can’t imagine the buses being TOTALLY eliminated but possibly very very scarce like you said

I used to think that but I'm coming around the unless gondala is closed, busses will be gone. Minnivan or busses with a transfer will be your options.

Bottom line though is if you are scared to ride the Gondala your experience at a gondala resport is not going to be pleasant and you should book elsewhere.

I guess time will tell us...

Yep. I think the one thing we can say for sure is that getting to HS or Epcot will take longer then it does now once the gondala opens unless you pay for something like a minnivan.
The Gondala's are supposed to make transportation faster, not make it longer. i.e. no waiting for a bus, a constant moving line with no vehicular traffic to slow it down, etc

You think it will take longer from what location?

No true - first off the boats will still run because they are there mainly to service the 5 hotels that won't be affected by the Gondola. The boats take 30 minutes to go from Epcot to DHS, and that won't change. The maximum wait for a boat will stay at 15 minutes as well, I don't think they will run LESS boats, as I said they are there mostly to service those hotels, they just can also be used to move between DHS and Epcot.

Secondly, I suspect the Gondola will be slightly faster than the boats. Even with a change at the CBR station, I bet most of the time it will be <20 minutes from DHS to Epcot by Gondola versus the 30 minutes + waiting for it to arrive by boat.

Yep boats are staying for the Epcot resorts. I wouldn’t expect less boats running either.

Gondolas should definitely be faster than the boats.
