Hello. I am not very good at posting often, but this is my story of how we just acquired our first DVC two weeks ago! I am very grateful to all the posters on the DVC side of the forum who have passed along a great deal of knowledge!
My wife and I live crazy busy lives both working in finance. It all began when my wife convinced me to go to the Orlando Parks (first trip back as an adult was Universal) some 5 years ago. Despite my initial lack of interest in going, we both had a blast and re-connected with our inner child!
Since that first trip we had a beautiful daughter and have gone back multiple times (only once more to Universal but many more to Disney World). Our Disney trips have included stays at Poly, Boardwalk, Yachtclub (3 times! one of my favorites!), Beachclub, Bay Lake Tower and Wilderness Lodge. Most of our visits are 3-4 nights at a time.
While trying to address post-Disney vacation blues, I started watching youtube DIS videos and browsing this site 2-3 years ago. I read on this forum that this was a common "sickness"! LOL.
I then joined this forum 1 year ago but never posted much. A year ago I started to seriously consider DVC and would browse resale listings. Could I really drop tens of thousands of dollars on Disney vacations?? Both my wife and I thought it was a crazy idea!
Finally while on our last trip to Disney (a Yachtclub stay) with my wife (who is now 4 months pregnant), my daughter and my mother in law, we decided to do a DVC tour. The guide was great but there was essentially no new information for us as we had done a lot of research over the last couple of years. We walked away empty handed but the seed was planted in all of our minds now....
Once back home we chatted about the idea and decided we would buy. We thought about a number of options and long story short, we purchased a decent number of points (broken into a few contracts) direct at CCV with the idea of possibly adding some via resale later should we want to try to secure a cabin for a week a year. We paid cash and closed very quickly and are now booked for our first official DVC stay in January!
All in all, it has been a fun journey up until this point, and I look forward to trips down the road! My favorite resorts at Disney are BLT and Yacht Club and my wife is really drawn to Wilderness Lodge and Grand Floridian. Ending up at CCV - WDL I think was a fine choice for us however and I hope to see our young children have many happy moments in and around the resort! One thing I discovered, is buying DVC is not just about the dollars and cents or how many people you can cram into a room, but rather there is a lot of heart that goes into the overall end-result-calculation.
Thanks again to the frequent posters here as it was great to learn a lot from you all. Have a great Weekend!
