Have any ride cowards gone on Guardians?

I'm not a big coaster person. Big Thunder is about as intense as I go. Guardians is very intense but really, really well done. Because it is so well done the excitement really carries you through all that intensity. I liked TOT but found it scary. Guardians is way better.

I have always enjoyed Tower of Terror at both DL and WDW. I recently rode Guardians for the first time this month. I'm not sure if I'll ride it again. I may try the Halloween version when I'm there in October. I just felt thrown around. Up and down. Up and down. Just got to be not fun anymore. I never felt that way on ToT.

I hate rides with sudden drops. I've always had a problem with BIG roller coasters. Smaller ones are fine. I can ride Space and Big Thunder with no problems, although Space was horrible when I was a kid. On our first trip to the parks I didn't ride CS or TOT. On our second trip I forced myself because I didn't want to leave feeling like I missed out on something. Waiting in line was agonizing and I almost chickened out at the last minute on both rides. I rode GOTG and screamed in absolute terror the entire time. It was not fun and I left marks on my DD's leg from my death grip. It was horrifying. I rewarded myself with a Galactic Churro and felt that if I could ride GOTG I could definitely ride CS. And I did and about halfway through it I actually started to enjoy it. We were there on a very low crowd day and we rode CS three times and I loved it more each time. Then I rode GOTG again and enjoyed it. DDs and I got off the ride laughing. It's actually enjoyable when you already know what the drops feel like.

Thanks for this! I still have a weird hope that someday I'll wake up and love roller coasters. It's the lines, I agree, they are really agonizing!!!

I am a bit of a thrill ride weenie, mostly because of motion sickness issues. But when I'm wearing my motion sickness watch, I can ride Expedition Everest. I can't do Space but I do Star Tours regularly. I've always done ToT at least once per trip. HOWEVER. Went on GotG last summer and nearly lost my lunch. There are more drops, more up and down, than there used to be. The theming was cool; unfortunately, I didn't really get time to enjoy it because I was too busy praying for the ride to be over. It's like ToT used to have more "rests" in between drops and shooting back up. GotG just felt like I was stuck a very unpredictable, fiendish yoyo. NEVER AGAIN.

I was a TOT chicken. I did not like TOT. I would ride it if DH and DD were riding it and wanted me to go. DD occasionally would get on it and claimed she liked it, but other times was terrified of it

I like the GOTG movies, so I braved the GOTG version and it really is great. The intensity depends on which song you get. I can't remember which song we got the first time, but it was the most intense with the most drops-- it was great, but I was a little shaky getting off and DD refused to get back on. We rode it a second time (well DH and I did, but DD took the chicken exit) and got Hit Me With Your Best Shot and it was extremely fun! It was definitely not as intense of the first song we got. I could do Hit Me With Your Best Shot over and over again. If I knew I would get that song, I don't think I would even be scared. I always get anxious before TOT/GOTG, but I plan to try it again this year. Unless you get motion sickness, I would say, give it a try. If you hate it, you don't ever have to do it again. Plus, if you go through the line, you will see some really neat stuff, even if you decide to take the chicken exit once it is time to get on the ride!

I'm a complete chicken! I never used to be but am now. I can do space mountain but prefer not to. I've never done screaming and never plan to do incredicoaster. I cant handle upside down as it makes my head feel funny. I got talked into ToT at WDW and never again!! I was shaking and crying when I came off. Way too many drops for me. If you like multiple drops you make like it but it wasn't for me.

Me!
I love the movies. Never ever did Tower of Terror.
I went on for Monsters After Dark and a regular run.
I’m glad I did but never will again...it’s not worth the anxiety for me leading up to it!

The ride has a lot of Random Drops. It is a lot of fun though. But it may not be fun if you're having a panic attack while riding.

This ride is a favorite of our family. DH loved TOT, but DD and I only tolerated it. We all enjoy Guardians. It took us a while to get our son on Splash and Guardian's this year, but after he turned 5 he finally agreed. He enjoys both now and rode them multiple times on our summer trip. I will say I have seen a lot of very young kids (3 to 5) enjoying this ride. Most people laugh as much as they scream. It always puts a smile on my face.

Final note: I didn't use to be a fan of Splash because the drop seemed so high. But after riding it repeatedly with my DH I began to really enjoy it. If your first ride on Guardians isn't horrible, give it a second go.

DL newbie here - what is CS? Tks!

I think they mean California Screamin' which is now IC = Incredicoaster. It's funny because I see CS as Counter Service. :P

Yes. All the different abbreviations confuse me sometimes, too. SM to me is Splash Mountain even though I've never ridden it and I love Space Mountain.

I’m not very good with big rides and I can’t handle drops (as in even going down a hill in the car can give me issues). However, last year my daughter talked me into going on Guardians with her and it was not horrible. I had my eyes closed for half of it but I still did it. We are both looking forward to doing it again this year.

So I am a WDW vet, have never been to DL. I am a COWARD and have never been on Tower of Terror, however I really enjoy the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and would like to be able to go on. For a frame of reference, I can usually handle things like Space Mountain, Splash, BTMRR, etc. I've gone on Everest but it's scary for me, I've never done Rockin'. I don't plan to do Incredicoaster on this trip.

Has anyone with a similar ride tolerance ever done Guardians? Does anyone have any tips for me to get on??

I'm very much in your boat. I love Space Mountain, BTMRR, etc. I did TOT once several years ago, just so I could say I'd done it. Last October around my brother's bday, he wanted to ride Guardians. He only gets to the park about once a year and he'd never been to DCA. So even though I didn't want to ride it, I said I would, just for him. I didn't care for it. The drops were sudden, dramatic, and fast. Then we'd shoot up several stories quickly. I'm glad I did it once but have no desire to do it again. I imagine since our tolerances are similar, you'll have a similar experience. But it might be worth doing once :-). Let us know how it goes!

I love big rides, California Screamin was my favorite in both parks (haven’t been on it as IC yet). I HATE drop rides. I even hate riding in elevators. I never went on ToT but I keep hearing how great GOTG was so I deicided to do it just one time. It really is a fantastic ride and if you love the movies I would suggest doing it. I’m glad I experienced it but I am one and done, lol. I just hate that stomach drop feeling! It is a very intense ride but really fun!

Huge ride coward here... BTMRR is fun, hate Space, wouldn't even try Matterhorn... but tried GotG on our 4th day last month because it was EMH and no line. Very glad I did, it was a fun experience. Not something I could do over and over by any means, but really a smooth, fun ride.

I would also suggest you reconsider the Incredicoaster. As a ride coward, I tried California Screamin' a while back, petrified of the loop. It was probably the most fun I've ever had on a roller coaster. Was really bummed the Incredicoaster wasn't up yet when we were there in June.
