Mickey's Halloween Party and Halloween Time Superthread 2018!!

Ah, thanks! I haven't seen the short, so I guess that explains why I couldn't figure who that was...I gotta say, that seems like a kind of obscure character to pick. All of the other pins have pretty major character pairings, so I thought that one was along those same lines (I'm surprised it's not Buzz and Zerg or Woody and Lotso).

There is usually one AP exclusive pin each year and it looks like Jack w/Oogie Boogie shadow is this year's design. They'll ask to scan the AP and see an ID before you'll be allowed to purchase the pin.

Hope they don't sell out of Halloween merchandise before actual Halloween. I never have any luck getting party exclusive stuff. I like the Mickey and Minnie pin.

We are going to Mickey's Halloween Party 9/19, the first night, and are super excited. :hyper:

Does anyone know the times of the parade and fireworks (see below)? We are local and other than riding the HMH, we want to focus on character meets, the parade, fireworks, and candy. We can ride another night.

We plan to arrive by 3:00. We have Carnation Cafe reservations at 4 pm. The party starts at 6 pm.

Anyone have a plan they adhere to for touring like this?

:thanks:

ETA: found times:

Headless Horseman rides at 8:50 and 10:20
fireworks 9:35
parade 9:00 and 10:30

The early entry hours are usually the most crowded, in our experience, especially in the front areas of the park (Town Square, Main Street, the Hub). As you get more MHP guests coming in and mixing with day guests, the congestion will start to build. Your dining reservation will help you avoid much of this, but be prepared for it when you exit CC onto MS. The congestion will die down fairly quickly once the party starts and CMs start the wristband sweeps. While you are dining, go over the MHP map to study which M&G locations you want to hit. Some, like Jack & Sally, will start forming a line before the party starts, so if that's one you want, you might want to head right over there to jump in line. We usually watch the second parade because it's easy to find spots without a wait. After fireworks, we get a snack, then head casually over to wherever we want to watch the parade. DH rests while I shop or do another M&G. If the weather is very warm on your party date, wait to TOT until it cools off a bit. Unless you eat your candy right away, it melts in the bag, especially if you set the bag on warm pavement for photos!

Anaheim sells the "Party exclusive stuff" outside of the parties too, that doesn't help.

My plan would depend a little on when the FPs for HMH are...I would get into the party and then check the FP return time (the MHP ticket is supposed to include MaxPass). With only an hour, I'm not sure there is a lot you can get done without feeling rushed. If the HMH FPs are for close to 3:00 pm or the standby wait isn't to long, that might be an option. Otherwise, I would probably keep an eye on the return times and try to get one for between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Carnation Cafe is usually pretty quick (about an hour or so), so you should have time to ride HMH after dinner. Either that or go check out the Toontown pre-party (assuming that will be happening this year). Just note that those character lines build up quickly and can be very long. After that, I would enjoy the party offerings (maybe go see the Cadaver Dans, do some trick-or-treating, see a character, etc.) until it's time to head to the parade route. I'd probably aim to head to the parade route by 8:15 pm or so (it should start at IaSW). After the parade, head to the spot where you want to watch fireworks. After fireworks, either more party activities or rides.

You mentioned wanted to focus on characters. If they do the same as last few years they will open Toontown to Party goers 1 hour before the party start so 5pm for 6pm party. There you can meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto & Goofy. If you get there right at the 5pm Toontown opening you can get a lot of characters done. a few years ago my adult niece and I got Donald, Daisy, Pluto and Goofy within an hour. The line for Mickey and Minnie was an hour and they would switch out Mickey and Minnie for Chip and Dale so you weren't guaranteed Mickey so I didn't stand in the line.

Mickey and Minnie will be available for photos in Town Square (separately) during the early entry hours, in Toon Town (should be together), and during MHP (together). They will have different outfits for all three locations. If you don't care about the outfits or whether they are together in your photos, you could get your photos with Mickey and Minnie in TS before MHP starts. The line for them in TT and during MHP can get long pretty quickly.

Good to know! Thanks

Does the 2nd parade change directions or would it also start by IaSW?

Usually the 2nd parade starts from Town Square and ends at IASW.

Also, for those who are used to MK's Headless Horseman, be prepared for a very different kind of Headless Horseman and a very different kind of horse at DL! DL uses the Belgian Draft Horses that pull the trolleys -- they are very strong and made to pull, not made to gallop. And the way Main Street and Town Square are designed, there isn't enough room for a horse to enter from the parade gate and make the turn safely every time at speed. So our horse and Horseman are much slower -- and only 2 DL horses have been trained to do this (and this will only be their 3rd year). Last year, I heard that only one horse did every party -- and he did a great job! Watching him obey the silent commands -- lots of improvement from the year before. It will be fun to see how the horses do this year!

DLR rarely announces the Toontown Pre-Party (at best, there are signs at the entrance to the park), but the operating schedule does have most things in Toontown closing at 4:00 pm on the 19th. From that, it seems like there is a good chance that there will be a pre-party again this year. I've found that the character (and trick-or-treat) lines can get quite long, quite quickly, so you might only get to see two or so characters at the pre-party.

Given that you want to do characters and ride HMH, I would think about trying for an earlier Carnation Cafe meal (maybe around 3:15 pm, right after you get into the park). That would give you more time after dinner to do things (as far as I know, Carnation has the same menu for lunch and dinner).

Another option is to go to DCA at 3:00 pm and try to meet some characters over there. The BVS characters all have Halloween outfits, as do the Cars in Carsland. You won't have much time because you'll have to be back in DL by 4:00 pm for dinner.

They'll likely still have some Halloween merchandise on Halloween, but some things will probably have already sold out. There is a fairly nice assortment of items available via the ShopParks and ShopDisney apps (just note that the location-branded clothing will say Walt Disney World for the most part). In terms of the party merchandise, I'd be surprised if very much is left by the last party. The pins are pretty small edition sizes and, as mentioned, they've historically not limited sales to just during the party or to party guests. There hasn't been any announcements about whether there are any other party items (like t-shirts or ornaments), but hopefully that'll be posted on the Parks Blog soon.

Thank you everyone, very helpful!!!

Great idea to plan over lunch/dinner at Carnation Cafe! DD loves the villians, Jack and Sally are my must plus Mickey! Thank you for the candy tip as well. It wouldn't have occurred to me!

I have MaxPass with my AP but DD does not. Can we use MaxPass during the party? I didn't know there was a ToonTown pre-party! :hyper: Thank you for the touring plan, I like it. It seems very doable.

Hopefully they will have this party! :hyper: Thanks! That would be perfect.

I don't think we care about the outfits as long as they are Halloween. Thank you!

I wish we could arrive earlier. I work until 2 that day and then have a quick appt at 2:30 so 3/3:30 will be about the earliest we could arrive. I will check in though to Carnation Cafe when we arrive; we may get lucky.

I have MaxPass with my AP but DD does not. Can we use MaxPass during the party?
DL has not offered FP/MP during the party in past years, but it is available during the three hour overlap period (from the time when you use the MHP ticket to enter the park until the park closes for its regular operating day). So you DD should be able to use Maxpass during the overlap (and over in DCA).

I was super disappointment last year. I went the 2nd week of Halloween time and the 2 things I wanted were already sold out! It definitely put a damper on my visit. This year I'm going the end of the season so I"m not expecting to get anything that I want.
