Dining Wars: Drinking's Edge - An August 2018 Dining Report - Updated 2/18: Completed

Oh, Princess! I always love your reviews. I love that I can travel to my happy place plus eat and drink vicariously through your threads. I love your intro. Yes, I read it on a tablet while swiping up slowly and humming certain opening theme music. Pathetic? Yes. Following along? Absolutely!

Meet my most favourite (shout out to my Canadian peeps)
:D nothing wrong with an extra "u" here and there

I’m not the biggest fan of rum drinks so these weren’t my cup ‘o tea but everyone seemed to enjoy.
I'm quite the opposite. Rum almost completely dominates my liquor cupboard. I probably should branch out a bit. The description of your drink sounds good.

She’d gotten these fancy churros on our last trip to Nomads and made it known she wasn’t leaving without more.
I remember these churros from your last report, and I thought about them when I was there. Sadly, a visit to Noamd's Lounge, nor the churros, worked out for me.

After a very long wait for a bus, accompanied by a socially awkward Russian cast member with no definition of personal space who constantly kept asking us if we’d seen her squirrel
Como say what?! :rotfl2:

Side note they upped the price on this by $5 recently
I was about to be super offended until I read about the glow flower. If you're feeling regret for not getting said glow item, I've got a few I could spare.. hahaha

Crispy fries, truffle gravy, cheese!!!! These were delicious but for $12 ridiculously small and barely shareable.
Well everyone knows they cost so much due to the pig's finder fee for all those truffles!!

we’ll just call them flatty, crispy, and fluffy
:lmao:

Seems logical to me!

She’d gotten these fancy churros on our last trip to Nomads and made it known she wasn’t leaving without more.
Oh my gosh I just had these over the weekend and they are my new favorite thing at Walt Disney World!!! SOoooo good.

Meet my most favourite (shout out to my Canadian peeps) and simply the best drink in Disney World. This is Bombay Sapphire East Gin, Passion Fruit Purée, Mint, Simple Syrup, and Lime Juice topped with Ginger Beer. Slightly tart from the passion fruit, nice and fizzy from the ginger beer, and most importantly good and ginny this was the perfect start to my vacation.

yum I love this too!

Side note they upped the price on this by $5 recently so it can come with what I am sure is an amazing light up flower (insert oooh’s and aaahh’s here). Thankfully you can order it without and save a few bucks!

Haha I guess I got suckered into the glow cube back in June.

I’m a sucker for truffle – who may have once tried to convince Jason to buy me a pig so we could forage for our own – and these did not disappoint in flavor. Crispy fries, truffle gravy, cheese!!!! These were delicious but for $12 ridiculously small and barely shareable.

Yum, but you're right, extremely small! I would have expected a tray for 12 bucks.

Up next we have the Spiced Chickpea Falafel with Mint-Pistachio Pesto, Cumin-scented Garlic Yogurt Sauce, and Pickled Vegetables.

These blew the very good Skippers Canteen falafels out of the water, with a great texture and delicious accompaniments.

For you to say they blew Skipper's Canteen falafels away, these must be pretty darn good!

She’d gotten these fancy churros on our last trip to Nomads and made it known she wasn’t leaving without more.

Very cute! These churros look so yummy! I wonder how they compare to the ones they serve in Mexico Pavilion? Probably more expensive though!

Everything looks so yummy! I’ve been to AK once, but I didn’t notice Nomad’s Lounge, so I need to find it when we go in March! Those drinks sound amazing!
You most definitely do. It's next to Tiffins on the way to Pandora and so worth the stop. Hands down my favorite spot in the world!

Bless his heart how sweet
He's definitely a keeper!

Oink oink

That guy will do. Can you ship him to Virginia?

These are super cute and perfect for a birthday. Happy belated birthday by the way!
Thank you!

You are all way more awake than I would be having to leave that early for the airport. But getting in by 9 you have the whole day ahead of you.
It was definitely an act on my part but pure adrenaline for Casey!!! I am not a morning person, but somehow an early morning trip to Disney can change my usually horrible morning mood.

I love anything truffle too, these are on my list to try now.
You will love them!!!!!

Glad your meal there was a success! We haven't been yet, but it is on our list of places to try.
Isn't there a Disney wedding in your future soon? I smell rehearsal dinner or at least pre dinner drinks :-)

Love your report! I am taking notes for my February solo trip. I have never been to the Nomad Lounge, but it is in my list now. Your drink sounds wonderful. I think I want that and an order of their gluten free churros. Does the lounge get really busy or is it usually easy to get a seat? Can’t wait to see what is next.....
Thanks so much. You should definitely give Nomads a whirl. The lounge can get a little busy but we've always found a seat. Especially as a solo traveler they have a great bar and some awesome outdoor seating options.

I went to Nomad last trip based on your recommendations. It did not disappoint. I agree, it's like your a million miles away. Can't wait to visit again. Thanks!
So glad you loved it too!!!!!! It's just about my only must do (or double do as it was on this trip) every time! Drink and relaxation perfection!

Yay—here we go! I hope this trip was exactly what you needed at a tough time.
Thanks Meghan! It definitely was a good restart for my soul.

Awesome! This looks great! Jason's pretty crafty :goodvibes
He definitely is! He made the chalkboard Casey did her countdown on too. I have absolutely zero crafty skills so lucky for Casey he's got enough for both of us.

Oh my gawd!
You have no idea! This was J and D's first experience with a cast member and she certainly made quite the impression.

Oh, I wouldn't have it any other way! Gin, as you know, makes my body angry, but I love everything else in that drink (#kiddieversion!) so I'm totally with you on that choice.
They do have a kiddie version so you could have your own version of sugary happiness right along with me.

Oh Casey, I'm with you, girl! Sugar is my version of adult beverages, too! Those are some pretty tasty fancy churros, too.
I think you and Casey would be too peas in a sugary pod!

I haven't stopped at Nomad's Lounge on my last 2 trips, I plan on stopping there this time even if I am the only one in our group! I want to try the Boto Rita and Jenn's Tatoo. The drinks and the food look great!
Those are both great choices. Hope you find some time to get in there.

I am trying this on our Epic May trip, looks so good.

Looks like a great first stop on your Dining Wars!
And even better hopefully we can try it together!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a lovely first meal of the trip at Nomad's! I know the Anapurna is special to you for other reasons as well and I'm glad it has a special place in your heart!

That stinker ordering something you can't have but at least she got rid of it all with your best interest in mind ;).

The crispy bread is the best!
It was a great first meal. Even if my only child thought it best to try and kill me with the food :P

Following along. We’ll hit Nomad Lounge one of these days.
You most definitely should. You'll wanna return and return once you do

So Fancy!
That's how we roll!!!

Good tip! I always like the glow cubes, but think... what would I do with that after... I've got a couple boring square ones we've saved from drinks and now I'm like, why did I do that... :rotfl:
I was so shocked last time we went that the price went up and it finally occurred to me that it was because of that dang glow cube. We do have a handful that Casey pays with but otherwise I'll just pocket my $5 thank you Disney

Yum. These are so good. I really debated between these and the bread service last month but went with the bread.
That's a real Sophie's choice right there. Good news is you can't go wrong!

Nomad is on the list for our December trip. Following along for more!
I hope you LOVE IT as much as we do. And spoiler alert this isn't the only time we'll be there this trip!

I'm sorry to her that, but Disney does fix most things
It does. And wine. I think they are collectively what fuels me most days

Wow! He did a great job, I love it!
He does. Let me know if you have any special requests for our May trip. Presuming your magic band will come to my house he can design just about anything!

Oh my :rotfl2: I am still ever amazed at Casey's taste in food. I should have her talk to my two teens who still don't eat anything :sad2:
I'll ship her up to Connecticut this weekend!!!! We totally lucked out that she eats whatever we do. Tonight she jumped up in down with excitement to learn I'd made meatloaf and Brussels sprouts for dinner.

And I have no idea what you're talking about with the pigs and truffles so now I'm off to google...
Hope it was a successful endeavor. Bet ya didn't know pigs were good for something besides eating :P

Animal Kingdom has snuck up on me and stolen my heart as well. Fast becoming my favorite -- or at least equal to my beloved World Showcase. Nomad Lounge is such a great addition. I am making a note of your favorite cocktail so that I can try it when I'm there in a few weeks (yay!!) -- I usually go with the watermelon and tequila drink but can't hurt to branch out... and thanks to Disney buses I can have a few if I want to! SO fun to be able to travel with your friends!
Animal Kingdom really is perfection. Amazing themeing, fun rides, and alcoholic beverages to boot! I love World Showcase too but am usually disappointed in its food/beverage offerings when a festival isn't going on.

Watermelon and tequila are a great combo! Have you tried the watermelon and moonshine at Homecoming? So good!!!! And yes those buses are literally license to enviable and enjoy vacation like we should!

Yay I’m excited to see you have a new trip report on the go! You always make me laugh! Haven’t much of a clue about Star Wars but hey there’s adult beverages and food so I’m happy!
Counting down the minutes until my first adult beverage of the weekend :drinking1(1 hour and 7 minutes = Bombay Sapphire and fevertree light tonic in case you’re interested :rotfl:). The 5 minute uphill walk to get to the club and light fevertree being my effort to be healthy so I can pretend I’ve earned the gin and food I plan on consuming :confused3
Looks like everyone had great craic in Nomad’s. Both food and drinks look very tasty :thumbsup2
To be honest I don't have too much of a clue about Star Wars either, but the title popped and my head and what can I say when I commit, I commit!

Hope you enjoyed that beverage. I didn't now fever tree made a light tonic. I'll have to check that out. I love, love, love their ginger beer and have always hoped they would make a light version. Though I do have to drive to the store to buy it so I'm not sure I deserve it as much as you :P

Ooo I had this before it was good.
I know right? Yum!

Fancy churros are always a good choice :thumbsup2
I'm not sure why, but the fancy ones taste so much better than the ones in the park.

That one's a keeper!
He sure is!!!

And here I'd thought Flatty, Crispy, and Fluffy were Dwarves #8, 9, and 10. :confused3
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Dying!!!!! How do you think 11, 12, and 13 would be? Puffy, Poofy, and Pumpernickel?

Looks like another great trip to NL! I need to get my act together and get there someday (I know... you're horrified I haven't yet! And that's fair ::yes::)
It truly was! Aren't you going in May? If so I think we have a date!

:wave2: We ate at the Nomad Lounge for the first time on our trip this past April, and loved it! Can't wait to go back!
Glad you all loved it as much as we did!

I know how much you enjoy getting up early for and on vacation, but isn't it nice getting to Disney by 9???
It was good to get there early though as you know I'd much rather roll in the night before. I'm so much not a morning person that I usually just grunt - and don't even speak - to Jason in the morning and my staff won't even talk to me before 10 unless its an emergency :-) Just wait until I put in a room request to be near you in May and you can experience my loveliness in person!

Yum, since I like rum these are the two drinks I get there and I enjoy them both :drinking1
They were definitely good for rum drinks. Can't wait until we can have them together!!!!!

"Crispy" does win, I know exactly which one you're talking about. I had the bread service first when I went with Cathy and then we ordered it the next month as a family, and I tried steering the kids away from Crispy. Unfortunately it was everyone's favorite. Flatty and Fluffy got some attention but Crispy was obviously the star :cool2:
Crispy definitely is the star. Flatty and Fluffy put in a good showing, but they never really stood a chance.

If you’ve had them before, doesn’t the “crispy” portion of the bread service totally taste like Bugles corn chips? Thats’s what we were reminded of.
I hadn't thought of that, but now that you say it I can totally see that. Of course I haven't had a bugle in ages, and now suddenly want one though I forgot they even existed a mere few minutes ago. So thanks for that :P

So glad I saw a notification in your old report that you started a new one! I love your reports!
Glad you found me. Thanks for drinking along with me again.

I am late to the party! Always enjoy reading about your tipsy food/drink adventures.
Late? What is this late you speak of? Accordingly to my liver we've barely started yet so I'd say you are right on time.

Oh, Princess! I always love your reviews. I love that I can travel to my happy place plus eat and drink vicariously through your threads. I love your intro. Yes, I read it on a tablet while swiping up slowly and humming certain opening theme music. Pathetic? Yes. Following along? Absolutely!
Wow, thanks so much. Is it wrong that now that I've read your comment that I now have that certain music running through my head to??

I'm quite the opposite. Rum almost completely dominates my liquor cupboard. I probably should branch out a bit. The description of your drink sounds good.
We all certainly have our own tastes. But no need to branch out when you find what you like :drinking1

I remember these churros from your last report, and I thought about them when I was there. Sadly, a visit to Noamd's Lounge, nor the churros, worked out for me.
Oh no, sorry you all didn't get a chance to get there. You'll have to rectify that on your next trip.

Como say what?! :rotfl2:
Como say weird? I have never experience a cast member like that and despite our very obvious social cues (like ignoring her) she just kept on!

I was about to be super offended until I read about the glow flower. If you're feeling regret for not getting said glow item, I've got a few I could spare.. hahaha
You should be offended on our behalves anyway!!! $5 for a stinking flower cube is just ridiculous. Speaking of which, can you go ahead and mail a few this way :P

Well everyone knows they cost so much due to the pig's finder fee for all those truffles!!
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Now why didn't I think of that.

Oh my gosh I just had these over the weekend and they are my new favorite thing at Walt Disney World!!! SOoooo good.
Glad you enjoyed them!!! They definitely kick some butt over the ones in the parks.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: If only the cast member was this cute and endearing.

Haha I guess I got suckered into the glow cube back in June.
I did on our last trip too which is why I knew to ask if they would serve it without the amazing $5 cube

For you to say they blew Skipper's Canteen falafels away, these must be pretty darn good!
They were!!!! Until this day nothing has beat the first falafel I've ever had, which as you can relate to, came from a food cart in NYC. Now I'm not sure how good it really was given what I know about street food, so this my have eclipsed even that.

Very cute! These churros look so yummy! I wonder how they compare to the ones they serve in Mexico Pavilion? Probably more expensive though!
I've never had the ones from the mexico pavilion. But my guess is they are the same and just cost twice as much :P

Oh em gee your intro was epic! Love the start of your trip!
Thank you!

Just wait until I put in a room request to be near you in May and you can experience my loveliness in person!
I'm going to request early morning wake up calls for YOUR room every morning :rotfl2:

They were definitely good for rum drinks. Can't wait until we can have them together!!!!!
Me neither :goodvibes

Of course I haven't had a bugle in ages, and now suddenly want one though I forgot they even existed a mere few minutes ago. So thanks for that :P
So funny, I just bought a case of Bugles at BJ's for the boys lol, they love them.

Let me know if you have any special requests for our May trip. Presuming your magic band will come to my house he can design just about anything!

Ooooh, yay! I'm not fussy…I've never fancified any of my bands! But I do love Minnie ::MinnieMo

Tonight she jumped up in down with excitement to learn I'd made meatloaf and Brussels sprouts for dinner.

She's a gem! :rotfl:

Hope it was a successful endeavor. Bet ya didn't know pigs were good for something besides eating :P

It was! How funny! It looks like you need a really big pig for what you're looking for, the little ones didn't seem to have much success. My Allie has always wanted a little piggy, but tea-cup size, NOT truffle-sniffin' size

Dying!!!!! How do you think 11, 12, and 13 would be? Puffy, Poofy, and Pumpernickel?
Yep, I think you're right! :rotfl2:

It truly was! Aren't you going in May? If so I think we have a date!
That was my original plan... until I decided to push through next semester and double up my classes and graduate... the week after Girls Weekend. :confused3 But if I do end up going... it's a date! :thumbsup2

Thankfully sitting in the bottom of a tree with a bunch of bugs was enough to appease her
Ha! a bunch of bugs! At least you didn't have to eat them!

For anyone who has read my dining reports before there are two things you will without question see. 1. Tipsy Notes and 2. An Anapurna Zing from Nomad’s Lounge.
I love the Tipsy Notes!

This comes with three types of bread – not recalling what they are we’ll just call them flatty, crispy, and fluffy – and 3 dipping sauces, Tadka (an Indian spiced tomato chutney), Smoked Baba Ghanoush (Eggplant), and Blatjang (Apricot Chutney).
I love our bread descriptions! I personally like fluffy bread...
I want to get here eventually. I am going to take notes of where you go this trip. I want to get two of our friends to come with us next October to Food and Wine for another adults only trip! Nomads Lounge will be a must do stop I think.

Despite my birthday being only two days away someone (who I may or may not have carried in my womb for 9 months
I totally saw this picture and thought, Casey ate all of that herself! Morgan and Gwen are all into Peanut Butter Noodles.

Not wanting to be left out Casey went with the kiddie version of adult beverages: SUGAR!!!!

She’d gotten these fancy churros on our last trip to Nomads and made it known she wasn’t leaving without more.
Yum! She looks happy with her kid "drink"

And here I'd thought Flatty, Crispy, and Fluffy were Dwarves #8, 9, and 10. :confused3
Ha! Funny!

And did I mention adult beverages? It is vacation after all and you’ll certainly be seeing a lot of this

I love your style

Jason had made me my very own fancy magic band for the occasion.

That’s really cute!

accompanied by a socially awkward Russian cast member with no definition of personal space who constantly kept asking us if we’d seen her squirrel,

Weird!! Not sure about you, but my definition of “seeing someone’s squirrel” is a little personal :rotfl:

Anapurna Zing from Nomad’s Lounge.

That looks good! I’m not normally a gin person but I may have to try it. True confession - I’ve never been to Nomad Lounge but I’ve got it on my list for an upcoming grown ups only trip

Up first we have the Truffle Poutine with Truffle Tremor Cheese, Fries, crispy Onions, Black Truffle Salt.

Anything involving fries and gravy are A-ok in my book

you can’t beat being in the middle of the biggest theme park in the country yet feel like you’re a thousand miles away.

I agree, that’s exactly how I felt about Tiffins. It’s an oasis in the chaos

I'm going to request early morning wake up calls for YOUR room every morning :rotfl2:
Just four little words for you: Turnabout Is Fair Play!!!!

So funny, I just bought a case of Bugles at BJ's for the boys lol, they love them.
Apparently its Bugles season

You are off to a great start...good friends, good food and great adult beverages ❤️
The 3 G's. All ya need in life :-)

It was! How funny! It looks like you need a really big pig for what you're looking for, the little ones didn't seem to have much success. My Allie has always wanted a little piggy, but tea-cup size, NOT truffle-sniffin' size
Our dog weighs 170 pounds so I'm all about the big truffle big!

I love the Tipsy Notes!
:-) I haven't looked at any of my notes yet but I'm sure they are in there.

I love our bread descriptions! I personally like fluffy bread...
I want to get here eventually. I am going to take notes of where you go this trip. I want to get two of our friends to come with us next October to Food and Wine for another adults only trip! Nomads Lounge will be a must do stop I think.
Who doesn't like fluff bread?

You totally need to get to Nomads. I think even the girls would like it. Maybe we can meet there in February :-)

I totally saw this picture and thought, Casey ate all of that herself! Morgan and Gwen are all into Peanut Butter Noodles.
I haven't heard of PB noodle. I"ll have to check into that for Casey. And no she didn't eat al the chicken herself but she could have

Checking in very, very late :tilt: lots of catching up to do :rolleyes1
I'm thrilled to have you here Kelly!

Weird!! Not sure about you, but my definition of “seeing someone’s squirrel” is a little personal :rotfl:
I know right??? This was the strangest most awkward interaction we've ever had with a cast member. Heck anyone in the service industry.

That looks good! I’m not normally a gin person but I may have to try it. True confession - I’ve never been to Nomad Lounge but I’ve got it on my list for an upcoming grown ups only trip
You must go to Nomad's. No chance you don't LOVE it!

Who doesn't like fluff bread?

You totally need to get to Nomads. I think even the girls would like it. Maybe we can meet there in February :-)
YES! We should try and make that happen. It would be perfect, the girls won't mind sitting if they have a new friend to hang with!

I haven't heard of PB noodle. I"ll have to check into that for Casey. And no she didn't eat al the chicken herself but she could have
I will PM you my sisters reciepe. She gave it to me on a recipe card and called it "Jenny Surprise" So that is what the girls call it. I am sure there are many variations of it.

So pleased i have found your report before you finished it.

I love reading your report. They always make me smile and give me great suggestions for our next visit.

Sorry your years been tough.
