I love credit cards so much!

Is it okay to ask for advice on this thread? I used to be active on the Budget Board, but haven't been around in several years. I successfully used the Chase SW card offers to earn a companion pass and a bunch of miles a few years back, but haven't tried anything since then.

I have a 2 part question. I have an Amex offer for 15% off offer at Starbucks that ends today.
Can I just get a few gift cards and still get the 15%?
Also I don’t really want to go to Starbucks but I do have to go to Target today. Will buying them in the actual Starbucks at target code as Starbucks?

Thanks in advance. I don’t really drink Starbucks but can stopping there once or twice with DD on our Disney trip in a few weeks.

I have been investigating this further as it won't show up for me either.
The comments in this article show the prob seems to be apple,

even though most people easily meet the requirements shown here

How frustrating since this directly applies to q4.

I am going to go online Walmart.com and buy Walmart gc using chase pay via the website, assuming that still works, and use them in store.
That stinks. I don’t shop at Walmart much. I don’t like to stock up on GCs for places I rarely shop at.

Certainly you can ask for advice! Welcome back!! What can we help you with?

ETA: If you are looking for advice on what cc to open, please advise you current cards open, along with their open date, as well as any authorized user cards you may have. Also, share your travel goals if you don't mind.

The starbucks in target are going to code as target. You'll want to read the offer and see if it'll let you load a card via the starbucks app. Sometimes that's an option.

I’ll shortcut this for you. Reload your Starbucks app using the card on which you have the Amex Offer for the minimum amount that’ll max out the offer. That’ll trigger the statement credit.

Looking for advice/comments on my next moves...

DH almost done with MSR on the United Card. He is at 2/24 and a very reluctant P2.
I am at 4/24.

No specific travel plans, but we would like to go to Europe when we have enough United Points....probably summer 2020.

I am waiting for my SW anniversary points to post so that I can cancel the SW Premiere. This is one of the few cards I plan to churn so DH or I can almost always have the CP since all of our domestic travel currently takes place with SW. Not 100% sure I can still swing this since the DD is dead and I can only hold one card. But I do want to keep the CP option open.

Once I cancel the SW, but before my United Mailer expires (11/5, I think) I will apply for the United Card - 50,000 bonus. Won't have DH refer me since that would yield 40,000 points. This would put me back at 5/24.

After I meet MSR on my United card- I want to focus on Chase UR since I can transfer them to United when needed. I already have the CSP and CF. DH has the CSP and is AU on my CF (before I knew better). I think I would get DH the CFU. Considering PC from his CSP once he has that for a year. Or should I have him apply for the CFU for the bonus points? Since he is reluctant to get new cards, a PC would be easier to convince him. I have the CSP and we don't need to be paying 2 $95/year AFs, so I would cancel his CSP when he has had it for a year anyway. This would be in July 2019.

Then, when I am back under 5/24 again I would have him refer me to CFU. I should also mention that I do not want any cards with high AFs (over about $100) or business cards.

And I plan to PC both United cards to the free version once I have each of them for a year. It is my understanding that I will still have access to more Award flights with the free version.

Am I missing any other opportunities (besides business cards)?

@amalone1013 - I'm out of Kroger points for the moment. Where are you going for gas these days? Do you still have your spreadsheet? My current plan is Exxon with the SPG Business for 10% + 3% Dosh + whatever the Speedpass+ app gives me. Am I missing anything?

Here's my ss for premium gas in my area. Valuing stsrriott points at 0.9 cents each. Hope it makes sense, I have oop cost, value of rewards earned, and final cost is oop minus rewards.

I dont have the speed pass rewards calculated since I haven't looked into them much. Basically Kroger and murphy are within 5 mins of the house, maverick is out of the way but DH will do it because he feels their gas is better, Sam's is no way unless were shopping there, probably costco too except its 10mins away vs 30mins for Sam's, and exxon is not bad but not most convenient either, and I know DH will not do speed pass without me to run it. This is also the first time gas prices have put exxon ahead of the others for me, before at best it would tie or just be worse because their prices are usually the highest.

How does speed pass work? I see 3pts per dollar on gas, 5pts if paying with speedpass? What is 100pts worth?

The SPG/Marriott merger thing is confusing me about points. Silly question, I guess, but are the 125K SPG points that we could get by opening a LUX card actually 125K or do they get converted into a lesser amount of Marriott points? Can they be used at any Starriot hotel, or is this thing still complicated?

The converting is done now so everything earns MRs. You just can't use them equally. Don't get me started...

SPG points = Marriott points, Marriott points = SPG points. There's no difference anymore, in fact, they are all just called "points" now. They can be used at any Stariott hotel. :)

Thanks everyone! I am looking for advice about what new card(s) I should get. I currently have the SW Chase Visa with a little bit of a balance owed, that card was opened in 2014. No other AUs. I paid it off monthly until about 1.5 years ago when I bought my house and "needed" new furniture. Other than that indulgence I'm really good about not overspending. I was thinking I would transfer that balance to a 0% interest rate card to help me pay it off, and hopefully that card can also earn me rewards; or I could open a 2nd card to actually use and earn rewards with. My travel goal is an internation trip in 2021 and another international trip in 2022 (these will be graduation gifts to my 2 oldest nephews). I am single so my initial required spend for bonus points on the card probably needs to be low. Also, I can probably have my parents join in the action to help me earn rewards as well (my mom can't really travel anymore). They could either be AUs on my card(s), or get their own; whichever would be most helpful. Dad still has a small business, so they are eligible for both personal and business cards. The 3 of us together earned 7 free transcon tix and 2 companion passes through sign up bonuses alone on SW back in 2014 so we are not completely new to this; it's just been a while. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi for the SW CP..I think most are opening a SW personal and business card...if the business card isn’t something you’d like to do then you could shop through the RR shopping portal for extra points, and put the extra spend on the card to get to 110,000 RR points...depends on how much you use the CP

For your husband either the CF or CFU...depends on if you’d earn more URs with the 5x CF categories or the 1.5URs on the CFU
