Video of false alarm on the Wonder

Was searching Disney cruise videos on YouTube and found this one. Apparently there was a false alarm of the ships emergency system. They were very quick to state it was a false alarm 2min after it happened. I can imagine it felt so much longer then 2min in that moment not knowing what was happening.

Found a second video
Starts at 4:10 into the video

Oh my gosh, that is crazy! ! Do you know when this was? I just love the nice happy music in the background though.

Just gonna say-- the correct response to the emergency alarm (until such time that you may find out that it is a false alarm, as in this case) is to proceed calmly to your stateroom to get your lifejackets (and meds and ID), and to report to your assigned muster station.
NOT to keep your phone running, state "I don't know what that means" when the alarm goes off, and wander around the ship not making any movement towards your stateroom.

i'd be freaking out - only b/c my son is usually in kids club or running around on the pool deck with buddies. Really makes me re-think how much 'freedom' I give him as it would be more stressful looking for him! I've never heard or read - what do they do with kids in the clubs during an alarm situation such as this?

The bands alert them to what muster station they are assigned to and the kid would be taken there.

Exactly.

And the whole point of Muster is for you to learn what you need to do. They state it very clearly there.

What is clear here is the person filming paid ZERO attention at Muster.

she went outside to see if there was a REAL problem :sad2: - would have been a much different reaction had she went out and seen a giant wave rushing towards the ship!

My understanding is that YOU have to go get your child once it is announced something has happened just like that alarm going off. They will not take your child from the kids club until they absolutely have to.

My guess is they line the kids up and are ready for the parents to come give their code word and off they go as quickly as they can.

That is not how I have ever heard them explain it before.

I have heard IF you can safely get there and get your kid do that, but otherwise they will take the kid to their station.

Just make sure he knows if anything happens just go straight back to the stateroom to meet you there and grab his life jacket. If you don’t show up make sure he knows how to get to the proper lifeboat station from the stateroom. You will know if he isn’t in the stateroom the only other place he should be is the lifeboat station.

hmm, that doesnt sound efficient. . . there are a lot of muster stations. My first action would be to get to the kids club b/c no one is going to ensure my son's safety more than me.

I asked the CM in the club about this and I was told just what you posted. That the parents are to get their child from the club, this was a few years ago.

Basically the samething I said. They want you to get your child but if they have to they will take your child to your station after so long. Don’t expect them to transfer yours and all the other kids to their station if you can get them yourself. Your child may end up at a different station if safer in that situation.

Correct. At dcl the kids club don’t know what muster station your kid is in, it’s not in their computer/registration system. As soon as the alarm goes off they’ll be split into the two rooms via last name. A-m in the club n-z in the lab. An annnouncement will be made for parents to go and get them.
Any remaining kids at Abingdon ship will be taken to a muster station but probably not their own, just the nearest with space.
Until recently, all self check kids would have been signed out and sent to find their muster station themselves.

Edge and vibe will close immediately and send kids to their muster station, but not escort them as those staff are needed in the club/lab.

Interesting. I don’t have kids, but this is one area Royal exceeds Disney. All kids (under 12 I think) have a color-coded wrist band put on them that corresponds to their Muster Station so that they can easily be taken or directed to their station by any crew.

Several years ago we were lined up for a character meet. We were lined up in the long hall that is on the side of the Royal Palace/Court(don't remember which is on the Fantasy). Anyway, this dad is holding his son. On the wall is an alarm switch, the kid is putting his hands near it. Someone next to the dad tells him to not let his son touch it. I don't know if the person was with the dad or not. The dad tells the person his son isn't hurting anything, and actually watches as his son continues to touch it. The kid then pushes it and alarms start blaring and the fire doors start to close in the hallway. The dad then starts to push the switch over and over, all the people around him are telling him to stop, but he keeps doing it. After what seems like 5 mins or more, the alarms stop. What does the Dad do? He ACTUALLY goes over and pushes the switch again!!! CMs come over to see what is happening, someone points over to the Dad as he tries to sneak off. As he walks past us with the CMS talking to him, I loudly say to my dd, "This is why I always tell you that you shouldn't touch something if you don't know what it does, because you might do something really stupid". And yes, everyone in line, stayed in line because we knew exactly why the alarms were going off, plus it was to see Donald Duck, and NOTHING would stop me from seeing him!!lol

Yikes! Sort of scary, as it should be. Seriously, walk calmly to your stateroom and get your life vest. You have no idea what might be happening elsewhere in the ship that you can not see (fire etc). This is what the muster is for, so you know what the alarm sounds like and what to do. Unfortunately, in all my cruises with DCL, I have seen way too many folks that do not pay attention or take the drill seriously. Thankfully real emergencies are rare.
