Trends that you hope will go away soon

Me: Restaurants preparing dishes that you do not expect to be spicy hot, spicy hot.
I know if I order Diablo Shrimp or Buffalo Wings, they are going to be spicy. But I have had Clam Chowder and Fettuccine Alfredo recently that was flaming hot spicy. No warning on the menu, and not foods you would expect to be spicy. Ever.
Besides, almost every restaurant I have been to recent has Cholula or a similar product on the table for those who want something spiced up. But once a dish is spiced up, it can't be undone.

OMG, YES!!!!!! Exactly this!!!

Where have you been? :p You can get a bloody Mary with a full breakfast sticking out of the top now. I agree it's disgusting. How do you even drink/eat that stuff? My theory is it's the latest gimmick to bring people in & most of it is thrown away. :sad2:

DH & I went out to brunch a couple of weekends ago, &, when he ordered a Bloody Mary, our server informed him, "We have a Bloody Mary bar w/ several different toppings & inserts, if you'd like, where you can get creative & make your own."

To which DH replied, "I'd really just like a regular Bloody Mary, please."

entirely college prep high school curriculums.

i attended high school with many students who had no intention nor desire to attend college-students who had genuine interests and talents in trades and careers that would in no way, shape or form benefit from a college degree. both of my now adult children (graduated within the last 5 years from high school) had similar peers. there were as well students who were (for lack of better terminology) 'academically unsuited' to pursue college. with both categories they stayed the course and completed high school doing the standard high school curriculum and opting not to take a.p. or college prep classes.

this is no longer an option at the high schools in my area-all curriculums for graduation are identical to the college application requirements for HIGHLY COMPETITIVE institutions. multiple years of higher level math, foreign languages and sciences, little to no opportunities for arts and industrial electives (unless they are 'highly desirable' by colleges on an application).

i am watching...............i anticipate that high school graduation rates will decline vs. college enrollments increasing.

The idea that being intentionally offensive is just "rugged individualism".

The portion size thing bothers me too--dh and I are both fairly big full grown men, it's weird that if we both order an entrée neither of us can finish it.

How else are restaurants going to justify $20 for one meal? Sure they could give me a to-go box. But most of the time, I’m not interested in reheating half-eaten leftovers. :worried:

No me! I’ve always said a Bloody Mary is a meal, so a piece of bacon and an olive adorned pickle just makes it a fuller more delicious meal. No need for breakfast or dinner.

:cloud9: I'd love a side of bacon, a croissant and some fruit served with my mimosa to save me the trouble of having breakfast. ;)

My daughter ordered chicken strips off the appetizer menu thr other night & her plate had three FULL chicken breasts. Ridiculous!

I agree about the ridiculous portions. I rarely, rarely ever order an entree, it's so much food, or it becomes 2 or 3 meals and by that point you're sick of eating it.

Instagram food is my annoyance. And generally people talking about making chili, or whatever, on social media. I just don't care what other people are having for dinner usually.

The I'm going to make this with even hotter peppers craze. Look. I don't need a pepper where the chef has to wear heavy gloves and goggles and change them every 5 minutes because the pepper burns through them ok? We don't need a hotter one. So just stop. Enough is enough.

IPA. Oh yes let's take the worst aspect of beer (bitterness) and see how bad bad can get.

The use of the term "adulting" by young people. If you use that term, you're a far way off of ever becoming an adult.
I am in my forties and especially hate when people my age use that term. I don't know who these old people think they are fooling when they say that, we know you have been "adulting" for a long time now! (and if you haven't by the time you're in your forties, you are sad! lol)
