I love credit cards so much!

No other cards in last 24 months that I know of. Southwest and Disney both 3+ years old. I did apply for the Capital One Spark Cash this week, and got the 7-10 days reviewing your account message. CIP is Chase Ink Preferred? I looked in my Chase account and it says "no offers" for me, I think I may have opted out of prescreened offers and need to undo that. Thanks for the help!

Yes, the CIP is the Chase Ink Preferred. It's a fav around here :) If you applied for the spark cash in your name, then you could apply for the CIP in dh's name (you know to not add either of you as AU'ers, right?). As long as you could meet both MSR's if you both were approved. Otherwise, you will want to wait and see what happens with the Spark card. I know what 7-10 days means in Chase world. Not sure about the Cap 1.

The Spark app was in DH's name, so I could do CIP in mine. I'm AU on both the Chase cards we have, but they're his accounts. Our business doesn't have any biz cards of its own, I run it, DH works outside of the business so for simplicity we've generally just used his info bc its so much easier to verify, etc., and always been more than we needed. I assumed 7-10 day message is a denial bc business doesn't have any established card of its own. May be best to wait and see on it. Was wanting to do my YE spend for business on the card to help its MSR. I've got 35k-ish of must spend in the next few weeks.

I haven’t said anything about it publicly but I it seems that my last 3 AMEX referrals never posted. 3 separate cards, 1 in real life, 1 r/churning, 1 DISchurners. I Have not reached the max on these cards so I have no idea what happened...maybe the AMEX RAT thinks I’ve had my share of bonuses this year. I have re-done my links now from my wife’s cards but haven’t tested the theory yet.

Whoa... that’s a new wrinkle that I haven’t seen discussed here or on Reddit. Could the Amex blacklist mean denial of welcome offers and referral bonuses?

Ok, 2019 Goals!!! Guys, this is such a sad boring list compared to everyone else's haha...

1. Continue hoarding URs. I'm basically Gollum from the Lord of the Rings with my URs at this point. I'm getting close to meeting MSR on my CIU. We will apply for DH's CSP next. I would say that most of next year will be spending on Chase cards to maximize UR earning for our 2019 Disney trip. Yes, I will be cashing those suckers out. No other choice :confused3 I did not put any other cash aside for this trip because I was planning on getting a CSR and redeeming at 1.5. I have slowly accumulating discounted gift cards, but I don't just have the $8000 cash hanging around for this trip, so cash out it is.
2. Actually save cash. Yes, I know, that dirty word. DH and I will need to purchase Olympic tickets this year for our Tokyo 2020 trip. We will also need to start saving for food/souvenirs/etc. So I will be saving cash for that and hopefully finding some more bank bonuses I can do.
3. Accumulate more AA miles. I have enough for one first class ticket on JAL currently. I haven't gotten DH his first Citi AA Biz yet, and will probably do that in February or so and try to knock out the MSR quickly. He will have close to enough miles by then for his ticket. We will need to book those next August/September.
4. Accumulate more Hilton/Marriott points. Once I finish up spending with Chase hard during the first part of the year, I want to bulk up my hotel points. Again, this will be for Tokyo 2020. In an ideal world, I'll have all hotels and flights booked with points and miles and will just need to cash flow the rest of the trip.

Travel Plans:
1. Work trip in April at a Marriott (more Marriott points for me, and I get to charge it and get reimbursed!)
2. We are considering a very small getaway to Baltimore for our anniversary in April with our Marriott free night certificate. We had talked about Arizona before, but we want to do some work on our house and then save our cash.
3. Work trip in August at a Marriott at the beach. This is a four day beach trip and we always use this as a little "vacation" for us since I'm only in conferences for part of each day.
4. September- Disney World for a week! The family will be finding out that we've booked the trip on Christmas!
5. Our horse shows also take us out of state once a month or so. While we don't consider these "vacations," we do have to get hotels, etc. We'll continue using options like hotels.com to accumulate free nights, etc.

I can't wait to hear how your Olympics trip goes. It has always been a dream to go to the Olympics, but didn't think that it would ever be in the budget. But maybe with flights and hotels on points, maybe it's possible. Just checked...2024 in Paris! Gives me plenty of time to save points for 5.

I recently read somewhere that the yearly cap on referrals from Amex was 200k points, which was news to me. But my most recent BGR referral netted me only 15k MR instead of 20k, and it was only the second referral I had received on the card. I haven't bothered adding up my referrals to see if that's the problem, though.

Is that maybe your issue?

Not familiar with the sparks card but feel like I read it was harder to get. I think you should apply for the CIP in your name. Since you have a legit biz, you can use your ein or ssn and just use your first and last name as your business name. Just don’t use ssn and your actual business name.

The older accounts with AUers are fine but going forward, I would not add either you or your dh to each other’s card as that will count against you for chase.

I really struggle to keep up, AND contribute usefully, to this thread (we run a business, dairy farming of all things which is pretty much 24/7, and I homeschool on top of that so our life is generally functioning as some variation of controlled chaos at any given time!)

But just wanted to chime in and say that I also was in NYC within the past few days, how fun that a few of us were there at very similar times all using points/redemptions in different ways! We only did one night this time as we were mainly just seeing a show. Used a free IHG cc night on Intercontinental Times Square because I had the kiddos with me and the free night redemptions in NYC with more than one bed can be more limited. (We could technically share a king bed I’m sure but I always get nervous they will figure us out and refuse us any room at all! Not to mention that we would likely end up a bit sleep deprived)

We have stayed there before (on free IHG cc night) and I swear we were given almost the exact same room as in the past ha ha! I didn’t take enough pictures because I really didn’t think about doing a hotel review, but it is a good location, nice hotel and the staff are always really friendly and kind. I feel totally safe there and that is especially important to me when I have my girls with me, and it is very convenient to Time Square etc. We usually walk up from arrival in Penn Station, and this time we walked up 8th Ave which I would never do again...I would take a different route. But that’s not the hotel’s fault!

So maybe that will help someone, maybe not. At least I’m trying!

With the kind of spend you have I’d apply for a CIP in your name and your husbands using your social security numbers for the EINs and names on the application....get one first then refer the other person for the 20,000 referral after the $5,000 MSR on each you’d have 190,000URs

@TarraLee i agree with this! In my mind I was thinking you could not do the CIP in dh’s name since you just did the sparks card app but the 1/30 rule only pertains to other chase apps. So yes, with all that spend you have, I’d go for both CIPs!!

@schmass I am so sorry...that is not good. The $120 dining credits showed within a day or two for me. It does not look like they are going to follow through on any terms of the sign up offer. You might as well call and see what they say.

I think the 20% statement credit at restaurants up to $100 back is part of the Gold's welcome bonus. If you think you're being denied the welcome bonus (your MR points not posting), that may explain why the statement credits also have not posted. I'd inquire about the statement credits, but I worry that it may lead to the bad news that your bonus is being denied. I hope I'm wrong.

@schmass that is what I am thinking too. They are not recognizing your card as eligible for anything tied to the bonus offer. You might want to try Twitter. It is worth a shot...what ended up working for me last year (but that was before the pop ups started).
Noooooo!!! Now I'm wondering if I call about the 20% and they say no bonus, should I cancel and get most of my AF back?

Ok, no AUers going forward, will note that! Good info, thanks!

We also homeschool and are planning NYC in 2019 with our boys so this was helpful, thank you! And totally agree on controlled chaos, all the time.

Thank you! Ok, so I apply in our regular names usinig our ssns instead of EIN, listing our names as business name, but just do one of us, then the other later down the road with a referral bonus, right? Does it matter chase is showing we have no offers, do I need to opt back in or call them or just apply thru online account? Does it matter I applied Cap One Sparks?

You've been so helpful, thank you! I'll read up 1/30, sounds like it is a chase rule. This is the one I want, right? Thank you guys again. I'm working on my YE books, and thinking of all the points I missed out on in 2018. I'm going to do better for myself in 2019, thanks to this thread!

Have been lurking and reading.... going to jump in for 2019! DH travels domestically 2-3x/mo for work, we have a legit business we can use for spend, etc. Currently, we just have chase southwest and chase Disney. I’m thinking there are better options for us after reading this thread for a few weeks. Anyone want to give a newbie some guidance on where to go first?

Thanks for all the info you guys share in this thread, I’ve learned tons just reading it!

I think I would definitely start with the Chase Ink Preferred for 80,000 URs and then refer the other person for the same card. But there is also AMEX biz cards you could do too. I think it may depend on what your goals are for your points once you accrue them. It sounds like you could potentially hit a lot of cards if you are comfortable with that. Please PM @SouthFayetteFan @Albort or @Lain to get set up in our Reddit Dischurners group if you have not done so yet.

High-fiving my fellow homeschoolers and fist-bumping to the controlled chaos that is a homeschool household! It's crazy! Always lol!!

And yes, TarraLee, you are looking at the right card. You can apply for one in your name, and as soon as you get it, refer your dh. Not sure if you will have them in time for all your YE spend but the CIP can be expedited.

Definitely consider joining DISchurners to use and post your own support links :)

Help help HELP!!!! I went to Lowes between schools today so I was short on time. I grabbed 2 $100 target cards, and 1 $50 card. I grabbed my SPG biz card (which has the offer) and headed to check out. Guy scans the 3 cards and totals at $250, I put in my amex and I'm charged. But then on his end the $100 cards showed declined. We tried every card they had. All were declined. SO he gave me the $50 one and told me to go to customer service to get the $200 refunded. Um, no! I was now late on time and so I had them return all $250.

Well my email shows "thanks for redeeming your amex awards at Lowes". I'm guessing I'm SCREWED now. Is there a way to retrigger the offer? I was doing it to get the apple watch for Xmas. I have already sold my daughters fitbit charge as she is going to buy my apple watch. UGH! I'm guessing once the return at lowes posts, the $50 won't post. Is this something I can message them on? Any idea why this wasn't working?

This exact thing happened to me at Lowes, but it was $900, and they only actually activated $100. I had to return the other $800. But the $90 credit posted and they never took it back. I have had a few times I bought and returned, and fully expected the credit to be undone, but it has never happened. I have $170 worth that I can think of, when I returned things (including those gift cards) that they just left alone. I was never trying to cheat them, fully expected to have the credits go back, but they never did.

AA mile redemption question....
We should have just over 180,000 miles across 3 cards (me, husband & friend) to (hopefully!) book 4 round trip tickets. My miles have already posted (waiting on other 2 cards). The trip down will open in a few days. Should I book that part or wait till both dates are open? Looking at 11/16 to 11/25. We have 4 airports within 2 1/2 hours travel time to chose from (MCO,ABE,AVP or PHL)which leads me to think I should wait for the return leg to open in case there is a big variation in miles based on the airport. I've never booked using miles, so I don't know how quickly the fares will sell out....
Any tips are appreciated!

My Marriott points just posted. I didn't keep track of how many 50s I had but I know I earned 500 points twice and only 1 posted. I reached out to them via their online contact form. It felt a little ridiculous to write that message considering how many points I have...but it only took 2 minutes, lol!

Did you get a response...?
