Day 3: Roaring Fork Breakfast
So I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but we split our stay between VWL and the Poly, so while we were at VWL the kiddo REALLY wanted to try their chicken and waffles for breakfast after reading reviews about it online. Since the kid is such an early riser, we were up pretty early and had time to grab breakfast at Roaring Fork before even the 8am EMH at AK.
I paid for this meal OOP as I had other plans for those QS credits and I had refillable mugs, which I used every morning for coffee.
Here is the kid with his long anticipated
Chicken and Waffles
starring Mickey-shaped Waffles with Pecan Butter and Maple Syrup
What can I say except these were as amazing as they looked? The chicken is breaded and fried but NOT the typical thick coating disney chicken tenders/nuggets (which btw are like crack to me, that is not an insult, I LOVE those things) but it was nice to have a lighter coating at breakfast time. The waffles were hot crisp and fresh. The pecan butter was nutty and buttery and the syrup was good. This was an amazing dish, I ate an ear off a waffle with a bite of chicken tender and some butter and syrup. oh man. The kid devoured the rest.
I had the
10-Hour Pulled Pork-Cheese Grits
Chipotle-Apple Barbecue Sauce served with a Poached Egg
Here it is shown with a hole poked in the yolk already.
This was pretty soso actually for a few reasons.
1) while I appreciate a good runny yolk, I do NOT like runny white. BLECH. You can see at the bottom how it's translucent and running over the pork and I really found that very very unappealing. I have had plenty of poached eggs that did not do that so I don't know what the deal is but I found this to be consistent across Disney poached eggs. Do. Not. Like.
2) there was not much pork, like there was no pork under the egg, just what you see exposed is what is there - a few stringy chunks. I don't eat carby sides outside of vacation/special occasions but when I do I take a bite consisting of both the side and the main together and when I did that with this, I had a TON of grits left over. I was feeling kind of blechy because of the egg. Here is the amount of grits left when I was done with the pork and egg (you can see that runny white all over it)
IMO way too much ratio of filler to protein, but it was only $7.99 so I guess it's ok and it was plenty for me to eat in the morning, I did not leave hungry.
So overall
I would rate Roaring Fork a B for counter service. The kid's was amazing but mine was pretty meh.
