I still have $1675 on Lowe’s. But I’ll convert that to Disney for my next cruise. The other $3000 I can use for groceries and other gift cards.

I've got $1800 left :scared: I probably won't put it all in Disney since I will actually be pretty close to having what I need to pay off our trip once we hopefully get another CIP.

Of course... there's always the deluxe WDW trip DH and I want to take in 2021...

Applied SO for the Delta card last night and he got approved with no popup. Amex is getting most of our organic spend. Blue Biz for 2x on everything and 4x with my Gold. I am meeting MSRs by only MS.

I am paying myself with my honeymoon fund but the fee is 2.5%. I’m trying various portals and none seem to track for the honeymoon fund. Think it’s still worth it?

Hello fellow DISers! Do y’all accept TOTAL newbs who are just starting out? I decided to look a bit more into credit card rewards strategies as we have a few upcoming vacations planned. This thread caught my eye and it clearly has a TON of great info! I will be reading through this thread and the original, but with all the pages, it will probably take me a LONG time to get through it :rotfl:

So for the sake of getting my rewards rolling, I want to start ASAP. My main motivation for wanting to maximize rewards is for our WDW December 2019 trip. We are going to WBC for one week followed by four nights at SSR on DVC points we borrowed. For the $250 statement credit, I had planned on opening the Disney Premier Visa for both DH and myself. Questioning if this is worth it to also get the fringe on-site benefits?

I’m also looking into options for CCs that offer points towards hotel stays. We tend to stay at hotels that offer suites (Embassy Suites or Hilton Garden). We’re a big family and mostly road trip it for vacations, so airline miles are not as critical at this point. Aside from Disney, we have two other summer vacations planned that will have hotel stays.

If y’all could point me in the right direction to get started, I would really appreciate it :goodvibes
Namely, is the Disney Chase a ‘good’ offer with worthwhile benefits and which cards are best for hotel points? Also, I completely understand if these questions are so basic that I just need to read through and go from there :tilt:
Thanks in advance!

FYI to residents of DE, NJ & PA. There is a $520 checking bonus you should check out. DoC says if you want it schedule your appointment sooner rather than later. Link

It's intriguing because it's in separate parts, so if there's a piece you don't want to do, you just subtract $130 from the max amount it sounds like. They are very "13" focused, I'll have to see if this is their 130th anniversary or something? ($130 opening deposit, $130 bonus for each part, 13 debit card transactions...)

I'm not keen on the 13 debit card transactions within 90 days because of the $25 minimum. That's at least $325 I have to spend to get $130. Although I guess you could think about Venmo or something. However, it's an interesting proposition when you could get $130 literally just for opening the account.

Okay I'm ready to start prepping for my next card.
Here is where I am at:
02/19 Chase Sapphire Preferred (met MSR, waiting for reward points) Credit Limit $15000
03/18 Best Buy
07/17 Bank of America ( I used this one for a no fee balance transfer, amount has been paid off) Should I close it? I don't use it.
04/16 Chase SW Priority Credit Limit $12000 (This is my favorite card even with the AF b/c we fly primarily SW) It is losing out to the Sapphire though. :)
09/15 Citibank (This one was also used for a no fee balance transfer, also paid off and not used) Close it?
11/13 Walmart MC
06/11 Chase Disney (I just lowered my credit amount on this card to $2000) I was thinking of closing it since I don't use it but not sure how much it will affect Credit score if I do.
05/08 Kohls
10/08 Lane Bryant
05/05 Avenue
05/05 Credit Union Master Card

I have had 5 hard pulls since Aug 2017.

We have an Alaskan Cruise coming up in June of 2020. I opened the Sapphire to earn points to use towards flights.
I will be referring my husband for this card in July of this year. He's not big on the churning game, so I have to use him in small doses.

I am thinking I want to do the AMEX Hilton Honors card next because of the low MSR and no AF, and the sign up bonus is 100,000 points. We will probably stay in a Hilton when we fly to Seattle right before the cruise so this seems like the best choice. Also is it 2 or 3 months I should wait since applying for the CSP
Should I go with this card, or am I missing a better opportunity.
I don't want to mess with any business cards right now.

So what do you all think?
TIA

Unfortunately,no, just to Detroit....and its a Max800. I can't change it online because I have a CP. So, I'm on hold this morning with an estimated wait time of over 120 minutes.
I also have the notice on a flight on 3/30 to RSW. That is not on an 800. I wonder why it has the notice?
Hopefully I get a human before I need to move on!

there is a difference between a max8 and -800. max8 is already banned from flying currently, -800s are still flying.

wouldn't worry at all.

Thank you! I didn't realize that. At least my hold was only an hour, lol. I wish I would have found that in my research last night!

Yes you can.

We don’t ridicule such a thing around here :)
you can SM for that???? how didn't I know this???? off to send SM....:thumbsup2 BTW I just realize we never got a replacement bonvoy card for any of our spg card accts yet..... I'm assuming I can still use my old card till it comes?
........oh- Is Marriott requiring a cc payment of one night on a points booking? I had seen something alluding to that here....

ETA: Haha, we totally accept newbs... and veterans and in betweens! Everyone is welcome here. I just realized I started my post with "Nope" in response to your needing to read before jumping in and didn't want you to think you were shunned already! (that might come later  but don't worry, the shunned clubhouse has snacks so it's still all good )
----

Nope, there's so much to read that really you'll want to read the first couple posts on this thread and then just jump right in :) We'll link back to other posts if it's already been covered, we're very chatty and things change constantly so that I probably wouldn't even bother with the previous thread.

Counterintuitively being on a Disney board, most would not recommend the Disney Premier card... or generally either Disney card. But if you can make use of the perks I'd prefer the no fee Disney card. There are other CCs out there that will give you the same or better return on your spend and it's not locked into only Disney. The premier card gets 2% back at Disney, grocery, gas, and restaurants. For all that you can generally find 2-3% back on other cards, that give bigger sign up bonuses and possibly have no annual fees.

You're biggest bang for the buck is going after sign up bonuses, they'll usually get you at least 10% return on your spend. But if you're not into chasing bonuses then I'd still go for other cards with flexible points. If you absolutely want the Disney card then it's best to find a friend with one as they can offer you a $200 statement credit for $500 in spend. It works out the same as the Premier card when you factor in having to pay the annual fee on that one. There are ways to support DIS friends, as well as find reference guides to our Disney Tips and other rewards points News and info, if you don't have someone IRL to get that offer from. Just PM @SouthFayetteFan , @Albort , or @Lain, for access to our private group page on Reddit. That's much faster than trying to read back through the thread here to find the nuggets of info you are interested in :)

Do you have a spouse/SO that could open cards too? If you go no AF route means you'd be able to refer SO from your card, getting you $100 in Disney dollars and they'd get the $200 on $500 offer. The Premier card doesn't let you do that currently, so if you're in two player mode, you could get $500 for Disney without paying any fees.

On to other hotels, since your two examples are both Hilton brands have you looked into the Hilton cards? AmEx offers 4 different Hilton cards that you could get sign up bonuses for towards your hotel stays. The ones with annual fees also give you status which earns you other perks and more points on paid stays. But if you think you want to play the CC game you might want to hold off on opening this yet as there may be more lucrative bonuses you'd lock yourself out of. Chase UR points are pretty flexible but Chase has a rule that they won't approve you for a card if you've opened 5 or more CCs in the last 24 months, this is any card from anyone that can be seen on your credit report. So we'd want to make sure to be strategic with applications if UR points would be helpful. (and I think they're helpful for anyone, but everyone plays the game differently.) Have you opened any cards in the last 24 months? Or were added as an authorized user on any? Knowing where you're starting out helps devise a roadmap for your goals.

Of course we do!

In post 2 of this thread, there are some questions/info that will help the experts here give you the best advice. I wouldn't read back too far in this thread, because there is a lot of chatter (we're a big group of friends here) and also things change, so I'd just answer all that you can from the post 2 questions and go from there :)
