Smoking Ban

I'm fine with this, but my bf is a smoker. I'm assuming smokers will need to go back through security to re-enter the park. If he doesn't take a bag out with him, will it be quicker for him to get back in through the bag-free security line? I'm just worried he's going to lose a lot of time waiting in line to get back in.
Everyone will because smokers reentering are going to make the lines longer for everyone

So I just informed my husband of the new ban and his response was I could just light up and walk through. I said you could get kicked out and he said if I get caught.

Like I said this ban has no real affect on mr (my husband doesn't come with me often anyway) but I'm not convinced it's going to solve the problems if people being exposed to smoke outside the designated areas. I actually think it will get worse.

Then he is part of the problem and should not be surprised or offended when he is caught and escorted out.

I understand that. The thing is he wouldn't care. Same as the people who don't follow the rules now. And in the end how likely is it he wouldn't just be told to put it out.

Eta: He currently follows the rules. This was his response to the new rule. I was only using it as an example of how this rule might be approached by other smokers.

I wonder if they are worried about lighters and matches in the park from a security standpoint? I hope they will stop allowing cigarettes and lighters past security. Does a lighter/vape pen set off the metal detector?

I smoked for 12 years and have vaped for the last 5. I never did either in the park. I dont even take my Vape equipment to the park I leave it in the room. I have no problem with this at all. I have the smell of smoke. If you have quit you know what I mean. I feel like I can't breath. Also It could be 100 yards away and I still Smell it.

Likely not because there is still a smoking area outside of the park. But this is the only thing that would actually solve the problem of unwanted smoke in areas that aren't designated smoking areas.

Has it been specifed anywhere as to what they mean by "outside the parks"? If they mean in the parking lot areas then they could easily confiscate cigarettes at security.

I'm not sure why they would need to go that far? After all, according to this news, smokers will still be allowed to smoke outside the parks, so long as they are not lighting up inside the gate why can't they carry them around? And this is not an airline situation where many other items are banned for security reasons. Heck, Disney's even let me in with my 2 inch Swiss Army knife after checking the size (as long as a pinky-promised the security guard I wouldn't open it in the park :teeth: .)

They haven't added it to the not allowed in the park list. If they do in the future than a lot of the issue will be avoided but smoking in general isn't illegal yet and Disney hasn't said you can't bring cigarettes into the park. Only that you can't smoke.

I’m most curious where smoking will be allowed outside MK there doesn’t seem to be any room outside the gates here, which would make it pleasant for non-smokers. Every corner there seems to be an egress for visitors. The other 3 seem a lot easier to implement. Even at DLR seems easier.

This makes me mad :rotfl2:!! My friend and I did painted rocks to leave in the parks (palm size at most), and it was a huge debacle with security. But security wouldn't tell us why we couldn't have it, and said "if guest services can't secure it, we will confiscate it".... This was last September.
Turns out we could check it with guest services, and after 9 it was brought into town hall..still made it in the parks. But it wasn't allowed because "it could be seen as a weapon". It was maybe 3 inch in diameter and maybe 1 inch thick. CMs at both guest services and town hall were flabbergasted and said "its a rock??".

Where have we seen Disney say there will be a DSA outside the entrance? I can't find anything about that.

This says “outside of the parks” so that could be read specific or non-specific but I would assume they have something near the entrance and not take the phrase literal and say the parking lot or hotels are “outside of the parks”.

Which is why I was curious how MK would even work with no space left immediately outside the park.

Disney should not have to build anything or set aside space for others to promote a bad habit.

Like drinking alcohol or overeating?

This is stupid, but predictable. Enforce what you have. Probably not taking my mother on a trip now because we aren't going through security half a dozen times a day for a cigarette.

It's gonna go over well with the Asian and European tourists who aren't treated like lepers back home.

I’m curious where the areas will be as well. With a park like MK, it seems like a smoking area outside the gates would actually be more intrusive than the current ones in the park.

The problem is a lack of enforcement and of course the people who light up outside the designated areas. If that doesn’t change I think this is worse than current rules.

Then I hope that guard lost his job, because knives of any kind are banned, even to pinky promisers. And I hope they follow the rules if you try that again.
