Fun Sunday Topic...
So I know it’s not Sunday for 10 more minutes lol...but somebody on r/churning posted this topic and I thought it could be fun for us on a Sunday (which is typically slower around here):
  • As we approach the end of Q1 what cards did you get in the 1st 3 months of the year?
  • And an added question for our group: what cards do you anticipate getting in the next 3 months?

I got the CSP and CSR in early February and have been on hold since then...P2 got the Amex Plat in early March and is already 80% through the MSR on that (my budget is shot but yay?). By the way, he paid for gas the other day with the tap pad feature. When he got back in the car, he said "Okay, you've convinced me. This is pretty cool." DH conversion to P2 success!

Looking forward, we have to be good for a while now until we find a house and close, so no new cards for a while, maybe another 6 months :( I am thinking of PCing his CFU to a CF for better earning potential. I'm also going to put some bills on our BBP and figure out other ways to maximize our spend while we sit on our hands.

On the bright side, once my teaching gig paycheck comes in we will officially have a baby downpayment ready and can actually start talking to a mortgage broker!

Thank you so much to everyone who responded! I'm going to go for the CSR for me and the CSP for spouse. He doesn't travel with us. He does sometimes travel on business but is able to use the USO everywhere which technically we can be refused if they are crowded or the gatekeeper is grumpy that day. :-) I'm not going to redeem the points for cruises but save them for business class airfare for me and the kid when we do our big trip to China. But the $300 cashback for travel expenses is great since I spend 10x that on the cruise each year. It's great to know the points are transferable within the household.

We are apparently on the slow, slow, slow path. Q1 saw us get 1 card! P2 got the SW biz on 1/7 and still not quite done with the spend. I did get the United card on 12/27 so have also been working on that spend. Though I am thinking about abandoning the second tier spend of that card. Thinking about trying for AA biz today.

Q2 will depend on if the new roof I need will take a CC. Definitely getting P2 a CIP this week. May get my CIP2 soon depending on the roof. We are consciously trying to spend less, but my big problem is I have been too lazy to move my bills to new cards. I have my phone and cable going to my CIC and my other utilities going on CFU. So only everyday spend has been going on the new cards plus auto insurance, which is a big one, so that helped a lot. I think I will have to move the bills to get the $5000 needed for CIPs.

Q1 me- Citi AA biz, Barclay AA biz (and I don't even care about staying at WDW), BBP
Q1 difficult reluctant P2- Amex Biz Green (for the referral MRs, basically)

Q2 me-possibly Citi AA biz #2 and maybe Hilton Aspire (I'm still firmly on the fence about this card)--nothing I can't live without as I inch toward being under 5/24 (current ETA:12/19)
Q2 difficult reluctant P2- try AGAIN for CIP (his offers on his login now include "for you-Chase Ink Business Preferred...oh really???:furious:)

We are really slowing down, of course, because we have an $18,800 payment for our October ABD coming due in May and of course, no MSR. Isn't that always the way it is?:sad2:

Would you like to join our DISchurners reddit group? We have some additional tips there. You could also potentially support another DISer who has provided advice when you apply for certain cards :) If so just let me know and I can PM you and get you setup.

Q1 - 3 cards. AMEX Delta Gold Biz; 2nd CIP; P2 - CIU

Q2 - P2 - 2nd CIP with my referral (if it is still around. stop talking about it :P);
Need to decide on my next move - my focus is URs and hotel cards. I am sitting at 3/24. If the CIP loop hole sticks around, I would want to stay under 5/24 and might stick with that for awhile. I don't have Disney in my future so the redemptions on Chase have worked for me. Great question as it is making me realize I don't have a long term plan mapped out. Off to look at the spreadsheet.

I'm sorry to be such a pain and you can always tell me to scram but should we go for the sapphire premium or reserve if I plan to cruise this year and next? I know the reserve has a much higher yearly cost but it does have the $300 travel credit and then the points are worth more right? Do spouses usually share an account or can we each get one to double the bonus points?

Not at all. Just catching up again so I don't know if anyone else responded. DH and I always have each of us get the same card so we get double the points. We share nothing LOL

If it were me, I'd go for the reserve because I can make use of the travel credit right off the bat and I'd also make use of the extra point in dining and travel the first year and I know I'd be using those points the first year. All of that combined will more than offset the difference in the AFs. Otherwise, go for the CSP as the SUB is the same value right now. You can always upgrade a year later to give your points more value through the UR portal, use the travel credit.

Q1 SPG personal and SW Biz.
On a side note, since I got the pop up for the SPG card there's no incentive to actually use the card so I'm curious to see if not having a balance changes when AmEx decides to report a new account. Not that it would ever help anyone out probably since they're sticklers for the 90 day window on bonuses, but I'd find it interesting.

I'm in limbo at the moment. Once SPG reports I'm officially 5/24 until May. The next card for Q2 is the CIP ( hopefully) but I don't think I can apply "early" for it to avoid the issue due to Chase velocity issues - especially with 2 biz cards back to back on a small "biz" ( which has been annoying lately, can't get buyers for the last few things I've been trying to sell. That would have bumped up my revenue numbers for this year. )
So I'm in a holding pattern while I whittle away at the SW Biz. Can't decide what to do if the estimate for the landscape work we want done in the spring comes in lower than we're expecting.

If it does then we could use it for a MSR but P2 is looking to chill on cards for a while and I'm getting tapped out on velocity since I find it hard to get behind other biz cards right now. If it's what we think, then the plan was to put it on BBP for the 0% float we have until the end of the year. That'll take the sting out of it.:scared: The only other biz cards I can think of with 0% offers are the CIC and CIU and that would screw up the CIP plan... again. Not sure if I can convince P2 to go for another Chase biz so soon. His credit score fluctuates more than mine so he was trying to put some distance from the last HP to lessen the hit. So I'm back to so many cards, so little time. Frustrating.

Our Japan ABD date is 9/29-10/9 with the ABD TDL/TDS post stay 10/9-10/11 and we are adding 2 extra nights to that on our own. I went to the TDR site to see what attractions will be closed while we are there. Journey to the Center of the Earth will be closed AGAIN. This is the second time we are going to TDL/TDS after an ABD and the second time that the ride will be closed for refurb. Aaarrrghh! Looks like we will have to plan another trip after the expansions are complete. I can officially state that I have begun travel hacking plans for another Tokyo Disney trip in 2022.

Plan A musings include either using Virgin Atlantic for ANA flights in business or JAL via AA miles in business.
I am hoping that we will have worked our way towards that second Aspire card each and no devaluations on the card benefits. This should give us 4 weekend free night certs, $1,000 in resort credits and more than enough points to cover anything else. I will definitely make sure to plan this trip after I know when the refurbs will be taking place.

I’ll take any tips you’ve got for Japan in 2022. I’ve been saying for like 3 years now I want to do Japan for my 40th, which is August 2022. My kids will be 5 and 10 and old enough to handle that kind of trip (although my oldest could’ve handled it at 3 lol, he’s my good little traveler). I doubt I’ll be able to get 4 seats in business but that would be awesome. Otberwise I think I’d splurge for at least premium economy

Thinking 2 weeks, probably with one of them being Easter because I can only take them out of school for 5 days.

Hoping for 4-5 days at tdr, 3 days Tokyo and 1-2 days Kyoto.

Churning Shower Thought: Yes - from the series of posts you love, that leave you wanting more...comes another SouthFayetteFan churning shower thought:

NEW 60,000 Point Chase Sapphire Preferred Offer:
  • There are multiple reports of Chase matching the 60k offer to folks who signed up for the 50k offer with NO mention of charging the Annual Fee (these DPs are on r/churning AND DoC's post)
  • IF you have a spouse that can refer you - DO THAT and request a match! You get 10k for the referral + 50k for the bonus w/ no AF. If you get the match that's another 10k for a total of 70k!
  • IF you would just be using a DISchurner support link...you have a decision to make. You could just take the 60k public offer and pay the AF and come out slightly ahead. OR you could use a DISchurner link, get the 50k with no AF, and attempt for a match. 60k with no AF would be a real win there ($100-$150 depending on how you value URs) BUT there's a risk you get no match and you come out $5 behind in cash or $30-$55 behind if you value URs at 1.25-1.5cpp.
  • There isn't really a wrong decision here, it just comes down to risk/reward. I just wanted to present some options for those currently weighing their CSP options.
Summary:
1) If you're going for a CSP via a spouse referral - you have a golden opportunity to potentially score 10k extra points
2) If you're going for a CSP without a spouse referral, weigh your options. Potential gain of $100-$150 vs. coming up short by $5-$55.
FYI - it appears that all support links for CSP now redirect to the 60k offer.

I don’t know when this updated but it’s pretty recent. Support clicks should still track despite the redirect and it renders the strategies I mentioned above moot now (so bummer but you can’t snag a 50k w/ no AF offer and try to match to 60k now)

For those with links on DISchurners, please update your text to show the 60k offer.

Happy churning everybody :)

Sea World anyone? I don’t think this is a popular destination on this board but.....

My family wants to do Discovery Cove, SW, Aquatica on our next trip to FL. I can buy tickets through the CSR Chase travel site. Because you have to reserve an exact date for DC and the tickets are non refundable, I have to wait till we are certain of our travel dates. We are looking at early August but we have never been to FL that late in the summer. I know it will be hot, humid, with pm showers, LOL, but I am worried since that is hurricane season. I hate non refundable reservations. Also, ticket prices seem to rise the longer you wait. Anyone have experience and/or advice?

Today I just applied for the Hilton no fee card which begins the first steps on my path to get a second Aspire card via upgrade offers. 100K Hilton points for $1,000 MSR is easy enough. Instant approval! This of course means I've put off getting under 5/24 for a while longer. Since I've decided I need to go back to Japan in 2022 as a budget friendly trip for the TDL/TDS expansion I will need the second Aspire card in place. I will ask DH to apply for one too. Today I also finally hopped on the grAAvy train but am sticking to business cards and just got an instant approval. I will need those AA miles to book JAL flights to Japan. So 2 instant approvals in one day.

Me: AmEx Gold, ChaseBiz United, CitiBiz AA, AmExBiz Delta Platinum. I also applied for a second CIP with EIN and was declined for fraud risk, though no shutdown.
DW: AmEx Gold, AmEx Hilton Aspire, CIP, AmExBiz Delta Gold, CitiBiz AA

For next three months, we both intend to apply for 2nd CIP's with SSN's, and CitiBiz AA cards. If the CIP's are denied for either of us, we will probably start chasing Citi personal AA cards. I have serious FOMO about Citi, but I'm not ready to give up on Chase quite yet.

We love SeaWorld and have 3 nights booked at the Renaissance for June which is an easy walk to the park. We plan to hit SW and Aquatica but I will probably purchase tickets through Daily Deals which is what I did last year. I selected the Renaissance despite the resort and parking fee so I can take advantage of my Platinum status for a nice breakfast and the free drink they offer guests. Plus we had a beautiful view of SW upgrade last time. We have also stayed at Fairfield Inn and Suites which provides shuttle service to the parks. I definitely recommend staying at one of the hotels associated with SW since they you can get a front-of-line ticket and a discount card for food in the parks. When we were there on Thanksgiving Day, I purchased the FOL access for DS and me and we gave DH our FOL tickets since we love the coasters but hate to wait.
