I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

I liked the message in the last paragraph that airline miles are not an investment. Easier to help me think about this whole practice through the lens of short term goals instead of a trip 5 years from now. Currently i am overwhelmed with all the possibilities you are all exploring. I just need to focus!

Popping in real quick with a PSA. I'm guessing when my Hilton Aspire card was stolen, someone took it upon themself to also EMPTY 290K points from my Hilton Honors Acct. I just went to book a hotel and I have NO POINTS! The person went into my account, turned off all my notifications for my email and switched it to their email address!

Log into your accounts and check them often!

So I decided to go for CIP #2 based on some of the advice received here. I'm 2/24 - CIP #1 opened 8/2017 and still open.

Got an email saying they are reviewing my application. Is it recommended to call or should I just wait and see what happens?

That's awful!! Did you contact Hilton? Good luck with getting this resolved!

I called in a changed my CIP 1 to a CIC this morning.
I'll meet CIP spend pretty quick with insurance and waiting to hear about taxes. Thinking I'll get myself an AA biz!

I’ll just add one other thought...even if you don’t need AA miles for flights, even if you don’t need them for hotels/cars, if your ONLY use of them is for Disney gift cards (at the terrible 0.4cpp rate)...I’d still consider going for 4 dummy offers a year! The AF is waived yr 1 so no cost there. The mailer cost is also out of your way now. So a dummy offer would get you $200 cash + ~$170 worth of Disney gift cards with no match. (So $370 for $2k MSR @ 18.5% on a biz card they doesn’t hit your credit report). If you can score the 20k match it ends up being $450 ($250 Disney gc + $200) @ 22.5%. You aren’t using a 5/24 slot and you’re getting cash and Disney gift cards out of it.

Food for thought for those not on the train but interested in cash and Disney gift cards.....

There's also the reality that when this dies it will die unexpectedly and without warning. So there will be one card you'll get nothing on... your last one. Or you can stick to flyers.

ETA:
Ok I’ll give one more AA thought...

Pursue this with the understanding that it could go away. You could be in the middle of working on an MSR and it could stop. You could spend $100+ on Plastiq/Venmo and get nothing.

I don’t say this to stop people from doing it, just know the risk going in. This is sort of in the same vein as AMEX RAT denying bonuses except this time you’re exploiting a loophole and don’t really have a leg to stand on. I’m hitting this HARD personally (but also accepting the risk that I could get burned in the middle of an MSR).

Maybe I should've read one more post.

Grrr... That’s awful! :scared: Hope you can get your points back.

Oh I am sorry to hear this. What will AmEx / Hilton do about the missing points? I'd be so bummed as we need all of our Honors points for spring break trip next year (just over a year away).

Please keep us posted as this unfolds.

I've been lucky -- the only thing I've had stolen is my Netflix account. Person did the same thing -- changed my e-mail address. Except Netflix sent me an e-mail to say that my e-mail address had been changed and I called them immediately. That's when I discovered someone in Greece had hacked my account and changed my e-mail address and password. I had the account shut down in less than 12 hours. It took Netflix almost an hour to shut down the account because the hacker had changed my e-mail address so there were a lot of extra things that had to be done.

You now have me thinking of going for the 70,000 point offer. If it gets shuts down at least I'll have 70,000 miles. I can meet the MSR since I just discovered dd's wisdom teeth are actually $3,000.00 (not $2,000.00) -- I just found the estimate from October. Which means I can put board for the horse on the Citi AA card for the next 3 months (assuming he doesn't sell) and the MSR will be covered. Then I'll be ready for another AA card!

Oof!! I can relate, only too well. I hope you can get them back!!!

You can call the status line to check....usually it’s automated so no need to speak with anyone...1-800-432-3117

Chase Status Number 1-800-432-3117; Follow the prompts (should be #, 3, 1, SSN#) I waited 8 days to be approved. I only called once every morning, but I know others call every 30 minutes or so! It is hard to sit at the 30 days message while everyone else is being approved. Good luck!

Wow, where is everyone this morning? I don't think I have ever seen it so quiet! No CC news so I will just say that my DS's ESPN bracket finished at 99.8%! Mine finished at 17.6% :rotfl:
My husband told me he had never seen a worse bracket than mine. I chose underdogs on the first round just for fun. Needless to say, I was out of the running day 1.

Just finished off the MSR on my wife's CIC. I paid my Comcast bill for the rest of the year to get 5x on all that spend. Once those post we'll be just shy of 850k URs... I guess I need to start embracing the reality of cash-out soon. If my wife and I each go for CIPs in the next 2 months I'm going to be a UR millionaire...LOL!

Seriously...SERIOUSLY??? :confused3 And this is an experienced churner who to my knowledge has been doing this for like 2 years!

EDIT: If you're newer to the game, I'd check this comment out just to see what can go wrong. Don't play with FIRE (and not the early retirement kind of fire ;) hahaha).

My response was:
You've been at this for like 2 years or something, haven't you? C'mon man...this is a newbie level comment...

1) You trusted a CSR to calculate if you met your MSR or not
2) You didn't meet the MSR until 2 weeks prior to the 3 month period
3) You were including airline credit spend which we ALWAYS advocate to not include if for no other reason than to just do the right thing (i.e. "this is why we can't have nice things" clause)
4) And then despite it being 100% and totally your fault you're blaming AMEX for it? The only unbelievable thing here is that you posted this. I'd totally not expect this from a name I recognize here as a veteran.

That said - I'm sorry you lost out on the points, I never want to see that happen. I guess consider this a lesson learned. Use the spreadsheet, add up your spend, never include statement credits/returns/etc in the MSR (just do the right thing there), and don't trust a CSR...
Don't be this guy :) Make sure you hit your MSRs!
